After many hours, e-mails and general frantic pacing we have got our full line up for the Acoustic tent at this year's TMF Festival in Thurrock (Aug 7th) all done and in the bag!

As well as the talented local and international acts selected by the festival organisers such as beat poets Breis and Jared Louche (who has worked with Eighties Matchbox), we have added a bit of DiS flair and bought in some of the bands we love from the past, present and future with one or two suprises.

From London we have called in Emma McGlynn whos urban-folk-rock sounds like the best bits Ani DiFranco given a British edge and whose stunning debut album 'Kamikaze Birdie' made a real impression.

Travelling down from Glasgow we have Clearfall who are causing a bit of a stir north of the border. With numerous profile support slots already secured and labels circling like vultures, this will be one of the band's first gigs south of Hadrians Wall where they hope to infect everyone with their Snow Patrol-esque indie strummings.

Fresh from their killer albeit short set at Truck. Oxford's finest Dive Dive are going to play a special acoustic set just for us perhaps previewing a few tracks from their forthcoming album which is due out in October.

In a real departure from their usual set-up we have managed to convince Stratford boys Antihero that they want to play and provide us with an unplugged session - something that is virtually unheard of for the band, so this could be something very special indeed!

Going old school we are bringing back a blast from the past with Miss Black America singer Seymour Glass coming down with his acousitc side project The Charm Offensive which involves member of The Dawn Parade. Apparently going down well in the Cambridge area, this could potentially be a highlight of the whole festival!

Wrapping it all up we have a special acoustic set from Jetplane Landing. Although they are playing a full set on one of the main stages as well, we have managed to convice our favourite anglo-Irish rockers to come and lay down a few heart-felt tracks just for you before blowing you all away!

Apart from our small acoustic shindig there are some great DiS-approved bands playing such as Smother, Reuben, Million Dead, My Red Cell, Winnebago Deal, Amplifier, Engerica and Empathy with Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster rounding things off at the end of the night.

With over 70 bands playing in just one day it is a real festival to be at and costing just £8 you would be mad to miss it, simple as! For full info, line-ups, buying tickets and more go to the TMF Official Site and we hope to see you there!

Hmmm.

I went to a TMF event in London about 6 months ago. Probably the worst organised event I've ever been to.

It was an inside all dayer, but you couldn't leave and come back later. Also the last admission was 2 pm meaning that after that time the 'crowds' (max 50 people menaing the venue was pretty empty at all times) dwindled. The bands each played two sets of about 15 min each. Seperated by 15 min of background music which was oppresively loud. No seating, and bad food rounded off the event.

The band I went to see felt similarly about the experience and I left without watching the 2nd set (which they were tempted not to stick around for themselves!).

Hopefully they have got their act together and the festival goes well.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Why would the Thurrock Music Festival be in London?
Hmm.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

TMF do music promotion in general too. Only it stands for "Taking Music Forward" (see link in article) in those instances.

Same people, different place.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

or same 3 letters, different meanings..........

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

love to see twatto outta JPL preaching through an acoustic set.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Did Micky H help you fund this venture, Sean?

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

No, fully funded out of my pocket working full time from 8 until late to try and do something you self righteous pompeous cunt rather than post on message boards and bitch about everyone!

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

I love JPL, and Ferris' "preaching", but that made me laugh...

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Yes, god damn people that have something that might be vaguely worth saying actually saying it. Bastards, the lot of them.

Now, let's all sit back and quietly watch the Pete 'n' Carl soap opera unfurl a little bit more.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

do you even know what i was talking about?

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

"love to see twatto outta JPL preaching through an acoustic set."

Seems fairly obvious.

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

A problem here: the DiS 'acoustic' booking policy - get the same old same old indie rockers to play token acoustic jams, rather than finding actual UK acoustic talent.

Pretty disgusted with this: a wasted opportunity to fulfill their remit. Shame.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Be thankful, they coulda gone and got Miss Black America and the Dawn Parade to play (again) too!

(Re-reads article)

Um..... Hang on.....

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Well Colin did ask around loads of staff and if you didnt sing out, it's a little late now. This stage has been arranged in a short amount of time and i'd appreicate if you didn't constantly put everything down. Feel free to write an article about the 10 best acoustic artistes in the uk to readdress the balance...

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

DiS has a 'remit'??

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

"token acoustic jams"

don't think so...

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Well wtf else is Antihero gonna do? They're a rocking bunch of rockers, y'know the point about them is they rock. ffs. Ditto Jetplane Landing.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Rock bands aren't allowed to use acoustic guitars??

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Of course they are - but if you're denying that filling an 'acoustic' stage with indie rock bands playing acoustic sets isn't a) defeating the point b) depriving the stage of variety and c) depriving good acoustic acts of slots, then you're in cloud cuckoo land.

Sorry I was angry in the first post. I should've either posted backstage or been politer and I meant no insult to anyone who's 'worked' to book this bill. But I stand by my core criticism - it showcases the narrowness, rather than the wideness, of DIS attitude.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

"an 'acoustic' stage with indie rock bands playing acoustic sets"

nope. we're playing a full set, sir.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Fair dos. I'm feeling guilty now.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Oh yeah, that Nirvana Unplugged was a right botch... damn that lack of amps for a rocking band!

Go tothe JPL website and listen to their acoustic/radio sessions and you will hear how good they are. '... Rvolution Rock' almost sounds like a different song!'

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Chris T-T is a fantastic example of how music can be done well both with just an acoustic and with a full band - both sides are very different beats, but work well all the same.

But, yeah, agreed. The acoustic version of Revolution Rock is ace, and a 20 minute set wouldn't be hard to fill. Stuff from the new album wouldn't work as well as stuff from Zero For Conduct, but I can see Brave Gravity, Do It... Now! and We Are The Pragmatists [Brave Gravity b-side if you don't know] working well.

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

We're not an acoustic act either, in that sense, we use an acoustic guitar, and we're no was like hell is for heroes or reuben or anything either. I think it'll be a good show and I'm looking forward to it.

hope to see some of you there.

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

doesnt TMF stand for The Music Factory also,it confused me as i thought it was a tmf (the music factory, a channel on sky much like mtv hits) event :]

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

No, no, it stands for Thurrock Music Festival.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

I thought it had been changed to 'Taking Music Forward', but it will always be Furrock Music Festival to people connected to Furrock.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

It is now Taking Music Forward, I just forgot to tell Adams!

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

It is a stupid name change though, so fair enough for not propogating it.

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

I'm sending two of my friends who are in London back packing around to this festival...

They'll take lots of photos and stuff for me..

I wish I was going, though...

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

you rock
that's probably enough

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Who rocks?!

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

You rock Ezra!

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Nooooooooooooooo! *blush*

You rock rubba ;o)

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

It looks pretty cool.
I'm going.

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

sounds a bit shit to me

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Maybe.
But Winnebago Deal are playing and for me thats good enough even if everything else is shit.

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

i think the festival looks awesome. the underbelly of british rock are playing, none o' the schmindie scenesters.

but where are mclusky?

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

I would have killed to get McLusky on one of the main stages mate, trust me!

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

I love the fact that I can see loads of my favourite local bands on the same bill as Breed 77 and for just 8 squid! Smother are now on but on early 12pm, Empathy on at 6.10pm - their album Beyond Nucleus is one of my favourite albums ever. Jokers Wild, look out for them 7.20pm they seem to be causing a bit of a stir and they're in the 'Road to V' competition on Channel 4.Then there's Amplifier and then there's the excitement of finding that undiscovered gem. That's taking music forward.

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

:D

Engerica, Smother & Empathy are the pick of the local bunch for me, can't wait to see all 3. I will be the one bouncing along to 'Square Wheels' before legging it off to start the acoustic stage!

Re: DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

haven't seen smother. definitely wanna see engerica again. plus it's good to see reuben and antihero getting high billings when last year they both seemed to have broken up!

and to top it off 80s lord over the whole event like thin white dukes proud of all their fighty rockin younger brother subjects.

this festival is flying the flag for, dare i use such an uncool word, "britrock".

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Have to say this. Despite my being rude about the TMF booking earlier on this thread, Colin the DIS writer / booker just offered one of my acts a gig.

That is real generosity of spirit.

DiS @ TMF: Line Up Confirmed!

Well, Colin is a very nice guy.
