Artists: Silver Sun
Silver Sun have inked a new record deal and are set to release a new single and album in the autumn.

The deal comes from Invisible Hands Music, home of – wait for it – Emerson Lake And Palmer, Hazel O’Connor and Wishbone Ash among others. They were previously signed to Polydor.

Their next single, Bubblegum, is to be released on Nov 1st while their third album, Disappear Here, is “tentatively scheduled” for Nov 8th. It's been six years since their last album, Neo Wave. Yes, SIX (6).

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. YES.

Goddammit this band is shit and always have been shit! Unless you are into Styx......

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release d

I wanted to have a go here, childish as that might seem - then I looked at the bands in your profile and realised I liked them all. Oh well. Let's just say it's a pop music thing! And I like pop music. Especially this lot.

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release d

Its been a long time coming, and finally the wait is over. If you dont know the sound its like queen having a row with the beach boys in a camden pub...check it!

About time too! They've long been one of my favourite bands. And yeah, like Damian said, it's a pop music thing. Dude (usually) knows what he's talking about. ;)

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

Aye. Granted I talk shite occasionally, but I'm right this time.

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

Awesome news! And what's wrong with Styx anyhow??!!!

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

I see them as a poor man's Ash, to be fair. Really, really not a fan.

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

How do Silver Sun sound like Ash? It'll be interesting, but I don't think I'm that excited really.

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

Oh come on - listen to "Lava" and try telling me that you can't picture Tim Wheeler and co??

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

It's true. I can't picture them! Damn.

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

Eh? Lava sounds nothing like an Ash song. I love both bands, but I don't see much in the way of similarities...

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

Bloody hell....I would ask if you were "having a laugh", but you're obviously being very, very serious....

*confused stare*

Man, I'm baffled, bamboozled even.

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

I don't understand. I've never once compared Ash and Silver Sun in my mind. I mean...they are completely different!

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets relea

There's always been a tendency for 'power pop' type bands to get compared to each other. Silver Sun's songs are generally far more complex, especially in the harmonies, than anything Ash are capable of (and I like Ash a lot).

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets relea

Having said all this, if Ash offered Silver Sun another support slot, I'd be happy!

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets relea

Yeah... They are both meolodic bands, and melody is something I whole-heartedly approve of. Shame there was so much wrong with Neo Wave. Bad lyrics and terrible cover disguised a potentially pleasing album...

Mixed feelings about this. Their first album is one of the best bit of indie-pop ever. The second album was as bad as the first was good.

They were shit live as well.

Anyone know if they are still huge in Japan? Didn't they have their own TV show and everything over there?

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

James Broad said a while back that the album would be more like the first than the second. I know the second one split opinion, but I loved it... the majority of people prefer the first album.

Can't agree with you saying they were crap live though. A couple of times I saw them, they were hampered by dodgy PAs but generally they nailed the harmonies and rocked like buggers. I know I'm extremely biased but there you go!

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

Thought they were ace live, well the times I saw 'em they were. But agreed, ace first album, shoddy second. Thought they were long gone, 'specially after that car theft prank promo thing in London...

I'm gonna dig Lava out to celebrate...

..all the talk of shit reminds me that I did a interview with these guys..for fanzine thang.. geez must of been around 97/98 and they were playing with Ash in Hastings Crypt. Anyhows the singer was into people shitting on glass tables and him sitting underneath..just thought I'd share that one.

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

James Broad is the king of wind-up merchants and given the opportunity would really rise to the occasion... unfortunately, this didn't necessarily look very good in print. Like I say, I'm biased to the point of madness about this band but some of the old interviews made me cringe. I think he's a much wiser man now...

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

Around the time of the 2nd album James was saying that the third album sounded more like Todd Rundgren's stuff.

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

I look forward to November.

I think this album will be quite different to the first 2...

Re: Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

I just realised your name is off a Superdrag song. Good work!

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

woo! to illustrate how long ago it was that Silver Sun have done anything, know this... Caretaker used to cover "Lava" when they were a lowly college cover band...
Speaking of Caretaker, and come backs after an unfeasably long time...

A second is in the plannind stages for the same week in Cardiff.

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

See you in Cardiff on the 6th November...that's if I remember where I put my ticket..!?

And yes...Superdrag. Good work indeed! (let's hope they make another album one day...)

Silver Sun: shock horror - album #3 gets release date

I am so excited about the gig! Last time they played in Camden, I found out really late and turned up and the queue was so huge and I didn't get in :-(

This time it's all gonna be different. I'm gonna buy my ticket this week and be there at the front singing along!
