by Sean Adams
After August off to drink ourselves around the nations festivals, Drowned in Sound's Brave New Ideas night is b-b-back. With avengeance. With yet more great new bands...

Details of the first Brave New Ideas comp, which will now be released using some very clever interweb technology, are to be announced very soon. Previously we've had chart-wobblers Kaiser Chiefs, acclaimed songwriter M.Craft, star-gazers Redjetson and many more the world will be talking about in months to come (like what we did with Razorlight, Bloc Party and Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies last year).

DrownedinSound.com & 93 Live present...

AGENT BLUE
A coup! A headline set from this weeks Kerrang single of the weekers who're also racking up play all over the radio and MTV2. Agent Blue are a quintet who purvey rock n roll mayhem to the extreme. Angry, visceral rock at its most splendid, the band are all still in, or barely out of, their teenage years. They're from Stoke, are banned from several venues and have a Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Oceansize, Biffy Clyro) produced debut album out on Universal later this year.

AFTER THE SILENCE
Set to release their debut EP on Drowned in Sound recordings later this year, After the Silence create brain ensconscing sounds thanks to their enchanting Coopers-style combination of gushing samples and zooming guitars. Ones to watch indeed. This the Sheffieldian's debut London gig.

MIRROR.SIGNAL.CRASH
North London's MSC write poised 'emo' rock songs with a nice, literate centre. Idly compared by some to a Dave Grohl-infested QOTSA, Led Zeppelin on a sunny day and a xanex-free At The Drive-In, MIRROR.SIGNAL.CRASH will soothe the earaches and nosebleeds with their 'core offerings'.

Agent Blue: Headline DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

Anyone else noticed how that Agent Blue track on MTV2 rotation is almost note to note identical with Stutter by Elastica ?

It cant just be me !

Agent Blue: Headline DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #

And its really shit too! It must be some kind of conspiracy!

Agent Blue: Headline DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

you guys really need to get out more - it's nothing like it???? i know it was a long time ago but come on guys......

Re: Agent Blue: Headline DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

ok...i have both tracks and if you think they are nothing similar I tnink you should wash your ears. They have the exact same chords, and same chord sequence.

Agent Blue: Headline DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

well, i think they're ace. who gives a toss if the single is vaguely reminiscent of an Elastica track?! bring on the LP!

And just how sad are you mate, are you a fuckin musicologist or what?
Anyone noticed how the departure's all mapped out could be any track of any interpol or chameleons album?
Does anyone notice how Smells Like Teen Spirit is a bit like Debaser.....
go away you strange little person!

Re: Agent Blue: Headline DiS Night - Brave New Ide

Come on - it doesn't take a musicologist to notice that the intros at least are the same. As for the Departure, there's a difference between a direct rip and being influenced by the sound of something.
Anyway I liked Agent Blue's tune the first time round and I still like it now. So there.

agent blue are ace and all you doubters should get yourselves along to the gig on the 2nd and see and hear how good they are for yourselves.

Re: Agent Blue: Headline DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

Sorry, I usually do all the replies the day before so no-one who mails really early forgets about the show...

DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

WOULD go
but
the noissettes are playing the metro with ratatat.
and the noissettes are one of the most incredible bands ive EVER seen.

Re: DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

...2 things.

1. What the fuck is going on in that picture on your profile? That is some freaky shit dude.

2. My boss reckons the Noisettes are ace...he saw them at Glasto in some weird boxing ring gig and said they rocked...but he was jubbed off his nut at the time. Perhaps i'll check them out at the Metro...I'm not feeling Agent Blue.

Re: DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

on these very pages i recently referred to artists and atp curators the chapman brothers as "slightly tacky"
they responded my emailing me suggesting that my profile picture, then a picture of my band playing in some wee dive was tackier. so i used one of their pieces as my picture.
IM HILARIOUS.
ive seen the noissettes completely sober and it was a near religious experience.
however, if you go see agent blue tomorrow,
the noissettes are playing with the moulettes and mystery jets at the 12 bar club, denmark street, at some point in the next few weeks, and that REALLY will be one of the finest gigs EVER. great, sweaty, tiny venue, three really great, unique bands (moulettes are a slightly weird bluesy folk band with just a guitar and a cello and beautiful harmonies and mystery jets are starting to sound like a combination between the rapture and king crimson).
i may not be around for it, which makes me angry.

Re: DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

I see...I'll stay outta that beef.

Thanks fro the heads up on Noisettes etc..will try and check 'em out.

DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

Thinking about similar intros, any1 notice how High & Dry by Radiohead and Love Is Only A Feeling by't Darkness are the same?

DiS Night - Brave New Ideas #7 (London)

Agent Blue went a bit mental at Reading! Comedy rock and roll shenanigans...
