DiScuss: It's not April 1st, is it?
Babyshambles to tour. Really.
Babyshambles to tour. Really.
And, on a side note, I bloody hate The Libertines.
Babyshambles to tour. Really.
Re: Babyshambles to tour. Really.
I guess they're one of those "love 'em or hate 'em" type bands with a few "indifferents" thrown in for good measure.
Re: Babyshambles to tour. Really.
Re: Babyshambles to tour. Really.
As in, you found JonnyRockstar, not one indifferent person!
see the world makes sense again(ish)

haven't you got a record you ought to be listening to Mr Diver?
Re: Babyshambles to tour. Really.
I pulled the Metro out of my bag yesterday on the tube (after Deerhoof), and the CD was inside it somehow, so it flew across the carriage!
I hope it's okay!

I bet you guys who hate the libertines are all wear black emo glasses, only buy your records in independent record shops and start hating groups once they get massive commercial success.
You hate all nme bands, but if theres a copy of the nme lying around you will read it anyway.
You love trash asthetics, moshi-moshi, domino (although that label is starting to become uncool now that it is gaining a lot of exposure) but you think rough trade and anything to do with alan mcgee is crap.
You hate the libertines, but you still find time to read this article (despite the obvious headline- which you could so easily avoid) and if you were at a gig, and the libertines turned up as a surprise slot- I bet you would clearly hang around and watch them - just to see what theyre like.
Oh and I bet you all love Hope of the States and until a few months ago, really liked Morrissey.

that is ALL ME!!!
except for the glasses.
Babyshambles to tour. Really.
'Cause everyone that thinks The Libertines are shit HAS to be an elitist indie-kid. There's just no other reason to dislike an over-exposed pub band with forgettable songs.
Re: Babyshambles to tour. Really.

he is in a semi decent band, who have credible success, and is tourin with a shite pub band, who only have sucess because he is part of the libertines.... what a tool

Re: Babyshambles to tour. Really.
To be honest, far from glamourising it, I think Pete's a walking advert for why not to take heroin. That photo says it all. Now the poor guy will only be remembered for being an idiot.

I can see bands in a few years time being as influenced by them like Oasis, Stone Roses etc... I reckon they'll be shite too.
I'm an indie kid (and i've tried listening to them) but I just think that their 'style' is shit. It sounds like a band who have good songs but ruin them by being 'rock n roll' or pissed, or smacked up or whatever.
The question is WHY do people like them?
Someone give me some reasons.

"Because you touch yourself at night."

1. They released a classic album in Up the Bracket, where every song is stunning.
2. They carry on the tradition of romantic, English indie from The Smiths.
3. Their new single and album rocks!
4. They are a band to care about - a band that are completely real and genuine to their fans.
OK, so NME talk a lot about them, but that just goes to show that people really do want to hear about them.
Babyshambles to tour. Really.
reading all your thoughts is interesting for myself as i'm in a band that is aiming tobe the best band in the fuckin world sooner rather than later. I dont ponder too much on others i.e pete libertine, whether it be bands or fans, everyone take a step back and chill. everyone seems to be taking everything too seriously in my opinion, if he wants to fuck himself up then let him, his making way for the next big thing. ahem!! one part of me isnt sad for theior downfall, but another is as they have great songs. .but hey, what do i know? i'm just the next clean living , dope smoking king cobain/doherty............
see you all there. its a long story.. hope you follow

they have not 1, but 2, charismatic frontmen who have this strange sorta schoolboy/drug buddy/creative partnership relationship with mysterious homo-erotic undertones. already you have something a little different.
there is their obsession with english culture and the celebrating of the albion, an england which no longer even exists anymore. the lyrics are colloquial, tell of everyday life and personal experiences, a la the kinks, although with not quite the same flair as the legendary ray davies.
you have the excitement of the music, the rough-edged production, miscontrued by some as laziness and/or inexperience on the part of mick jones. there is the atmosphere of spontaneity and the frenetic, energetic rhythms off something about to go off the rails.
before pete's enforced leave of absence there was this feeling that, if only he could ditch the drugs, an equilibrium in the band could be restored and they could bring all the potential they have together in the right time and place and create something amazing, a record to take to the heart, that would create a massive impact and silence the doubters.
that they haven't managed this just means they are squandering the potential they have, or pete is. but there is a hope that it could still happen. maybe.
on some occasions it looks hopeless and you despair that perhaps they lost their chance and they have already put out their best work, with all its flaws. but that potential keeps you hoping.
