Artists: Embrace
With Jet having pulled out of V this weekend, Embrace have stepped up at the last minute to support Kings Of Leon on the second stage.

V Festivals organisers said: "Having helped define brit-pop in the early nineties, Embrace¹s comeback at the V Festival this weekend is shaping up to be the greatest since Lazarus."

They must have them confused with Blur, because Embrace's debut LP, The Good Will Out, was released in July 1998.

DiScuss: Who's more deserving of a hot poker in the bum - the McNamaras or the Cesters?

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Dang. That means all my voice will be shot from heckling by the time Dido comes on. Arse.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Embrace headlined the other stage at Glastonbury in 1998. It was the funniest, sickest fucking thing I've ever seen.

There was this bit where Danny 'honestly, I really really REALLY can't sing' McNamara shouted "SING IT" to the crowd during one of their 'anthems'. The response from the audience was as if someone had died.

It was like watching your mother take a shit.

On your father.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Whilst being fellated by a midget?
His tongue on her clit ring.
Her eyes rolling deep into her head.
Your dad grinning.
Etc.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Shit, boys.
Have you been drinking already?
That is some f*cked up shit.
Embrace are like dentists.
You visit them once a year to ensure they're still c*nts.
And then you run the f*ck away from them.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Reading Bukowski on packed trains is like drinking. So in that respect, yes.
I obviously goto the dentist a lot less than you...

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

I went once.
They tried to touch my teeth.
So I left.
Weirdos.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Bukowski was one fucked up individual - books are ace though.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

I've got a video of that. You can see it if you want. The problem is that the end "la la la" TGWO (which is what they were playing at the time of this incident) is almost impossible to sing loud.

However, as I said I have the video, official BBC coverage. While the volume level of the crowd isn't high, you can hear it; it's the unmistakable sound of thousands of people singing together. Of thousands of people joining with the band.

As for your blanket statement regarding Danny's singing... please listen to some of their recorded material. And even live he generally surpasses such "frontmen" as Tim Burgess and latter day Liam Gallagher (coke went up his nose, down his throat and obliterated all the good bits of his vocal chords).

I'm sick of people's ignorance regarding this band.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

they are SO shit.
who's in charge of the bill over there?

jesus wept.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

David Blunkett's deaf aunt, obviously.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Don't be stupid, if the organisers were related to Blunkett they'd be too busy having some sort of draconian crackdown on some new societal ill they'd thought up to organise a festival.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

i liked that one song they did, can't remember it now though..

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

are you sure it was a SONG? are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

You good, good people: Embrace save V

i remember having arguments back in 99 about who was better - gomez or embrace.
sometimes a man just feels small.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Embrace are incredibly dreary

You good, good people: Embrace save V

hurrah! Everybody agrees Embrace are shit - Was sure SOMEBODY was going to say something about them being really great actually.

Andysmith you are always allowed to like anything obviously

You good, good people: Embrace save V

embrace are really great

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Who's more shite, Embrace or Jet?

PLACE BETS NOW!!

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

oh god, Jet, by distances beyond human fathomability

as awful as the thought of being faced with an Embrace festival set in this fucking day in age is, they actually (& surprisingly..) have a handful of disarmingly beautiful songs buried deep (very deep) in the depths of their earliest back catalogue. Just, like, don't say that sorta thing too loudly. In public. etc.

Not that I'd remotely care to hear or see them play even those tracks live once more in my life, mind.....

You good, good people: Embrace save V

I've never heard an Embrace song. I guess that's a good thing.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Dido, Embrace, Elbow and Dashboard Confessional all in one go. That's three hours I have of nothing on Sunday then. I'd rather see Jet.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

errr, Elbow? you don't like elbow?
i mock you, like i mock all people who don't like Elbow

You good, good people: Embrace save V

why is anyone going to v? why are they aLL ceLibrating their v? i was a v 8 times untiL richard branson showed his face and he said get off my Land. he cant Look anyone in the eye y'know. he had to Loose his v to a whore, his parrents made him, then made him get home 20 miLes away with onLy 20p so he couLd be resoursefuL. and what did he do? make coLa. beardo rhymes with weirdo. spooky twat. im weariing a atitty waistcoast.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

I like Embrace.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Yeah me too, but I'm glad that things came to an end and Fugazi came to fruition. I couldn't imagine a music scene without Fugazi...

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Jet are the worst band to come out of australia since savage garden.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

You people will be a bit gutted to say the least when you hear the new album in a few weeks.
So so narrow minded is the approach by you people. You need to check out www.embrace.co.uk and ww.secretgig.com
Oh yeah, The Good Will Out...600,000 copies sold, three top ten albums, countless singles in the top 10/20, headline acts at all the major festivals, get over your sad little prejudices and get the new single or at least listen to the samples of the new stuff on the Embrace messageboard or at least download 'Ashes' from Soulseek.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Bryan Adams and Wet WEt Wet were at number one for about 30 weeks between them or so...
So going by your logic Wet Wet Wet are about a squillion times better than Embrace! Oh well!

I'm sure Xfm will be playing the new single 10 times a day. Especially if it's as bad/worse as that last album.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Then it's settled. The Spice Girls are best.

Might as well shut the site down and replace it with a shrine to the fab five.

Drowned In Spice? Drowned in Pre-pubescent-semen? Raped In Sound? Someone else can come up with a funnier one. Now.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

"Pre-pubescent-semen". A strange concept, no?

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

How is it narrow-minded to eschew listening to a hackneyed, middle-of-the-road, safe, tedious load of mulch such as Embrace in favour of seeking out new, fresh, exciting music from around the back of fuck-knows-where? Fuck's sake Mr/s Embrace fan, get some perspective or bugger off.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Did anyone see Embrace at V? "All you good good people" got the loudest, most passionate singalong I heard all day. I was impressed.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

it took that song to get the V crowd passionate...

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Had no idea that Jet had pulled out. Wondered why I could hear Embrace coming from the stupidly overcrowded NME stage (heaving for Scissor Sisters). Review of V anyone? Thought it was brilliant. Faithless were damn impressive, same with Amy Winehouse, Phoenix, Kosheen, Massive Attack... Pixies obviously too. Sunday I noticed more 'rock kids' about - mostly 12 year olds in Pixies shirts annoyingly slagging off Badly Drawn Boy down the front. Magnet was a treat too. Kelis was a disappointment - half an hour late, couldn't even hear her for the backing singer! Keane = dreary.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Embrace are quite a a decent band, they have some cracking tracks to fall back on and I do think they warrant a second billing above Jet anyway. As for them saving V,i dont know about that but I thought the festival was one of the weakest line ups until I got there.I had an ace time,it's what u make it at the end of the day.
Here's to next year.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Embrace have got much much better over the years. They used to really annoy me but I like them a lot now, and Drawn From Memory is a fantastic record. Pity I didn't know about their call to V until I got home... arse.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Went to V - Strokes cover of Clampdown was notable. Fucked Embrace off after 1 song and took a walk down the hill to see HOTS in the tent - V.good. Impressed by Cathy Davey (also in the tent) - very nice on the eye. Definite purchase me thinks. Pretty shit line up but better than staying in all weekend watching people on the BBC running, jumping and throwing things. Had good laugh with boys - cullum was ripped to pieces - wanker.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Missed Cuntham, was busy at the bar. I did smuggle in a whole carton of eggs to throw at him though, but they didn't get used unfortunately. There was only me up for egging Cuntham, Killers or Snow Patrol cos my mates bottled it (fuckin maggots). Cathy Davey was stunning, both musically and aesthetically. HOTS were great as were Charlatans, Zutons and Pixies. I was also pleasantly surprised by Fountains of Wayne. The highlight of my entire weekend was without doubt N.E.R.D. Pharrell is the second coolest man on the planet after Ian McCulloch...

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Throwing eggs at bands? How funny. About as funny as someone setting my friend's tent ablaze. I'm not daft enough not to realise that this won't be funny to the casual reader but trust me it's a bit different when she's asleep in it at 1am...

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Throwing eggs at bands is just a bit of fun (albeit incredibly childish). Setting someone's tent on fire when they're in it is extremely heinous and would consitute as a criminal offence (arson, criminal damage, attempted murder etc). To compare the two is quite foolish...

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

What if you forced someone to eat eggs until they exploded?

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Paul Newman did that once. He didn't explode.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

NOBODY can eat 50 eggs

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

jared i thought the charlatans set was shit. you at chelmsford? badly drawn boy was poor.
also elbow were boring. highlight was nerd just because of the audience interaction. phoenix were good, dead 60's were good. pixies were dissappointing. strokes were good live, never seen them before was under the general impression they are sit live.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Was at Staffs and Burgess and the boys were great there, I can assure you.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

Save V ? Like heck us like did it..it further embarrassed old Dicky Bransons crew with yet more 'over commercial, we love you because NME says your cool' bands.
In any case I stayed away from that one and enjoyed the wonderful six piece responsible for the awe inspiring 'Lost Riots' album.. quality.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

NME do not love Embrace.... or half of the acts at the V festival.

What are you on about?

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

I can't understand anyone who thought that HOTS' performance was great at V (at least not at Chelmsford), it might not have been their fault but it sounded awful and was painful to watch at times. What happened afterwards was cool but couldn't make up for missing out on an amazing live show as I know they are capable of from their own gigs.
Sad thing is that the exact same happened to them to a slightly smaller extent at Glasto and from what I've read seems to have done at T too, what is it that makes them and festivals so incompatible I wonder?

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Oh and compare the amount of positive press that Embrace and HOTS have had in the NME in the past year... they may just have belatedly started liking Embrace just because Chris Martin has written a song for them and the NME is terrified of losing all the Coldplay fans from its readership, but they've slagged off Embrace for years previously

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Ianf: you're a top man, you should write for this site

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Errr... that's bollocks, actually. NME have given every single one of their albums 8/10 and had them on the cover at least a couple of times too.

Re: You good, good people: Embrace save V

Ok, I stand corrected and look stupid then

You good, good people: Embrace save V

i really like the last album, especially the title track

You good, good people: Embrace save V

I've tried and tried to like HOTS...I just can't get past that bloke's vocals. Sounds like he should be singing for Mest or something...

'The Black Amnesiacs' is an absolutely untouchable song though. If HOTS could become an instrumental band that'd be brilliant.

You good, good people: Embrace save V

oh my. embrace are fantastic. the good will out cd is great. and the last time i saw them at that secret papa roach/therapy?/feeder concert at brixton they were fantastic
