Floods & Hurricanes for Reading / Leeds
Posted: 24 Aug '04, 11:54
Rain. Sun. Rain. Sun. Thunder. Cloudy. Lightning. More Rain. Floods. Gales. Sunny spells. That's the weather outlook. DiS has heard one of the car parks at the Reading festival site is currently looking like part of the Thames.
Mean Fiddler, the organisers of the Carling sponsored bank holiday events, are urging ya'all to be prepared for downpours. A spokesperson said: "So far this month we have had 10 times as much rain as this time last year and it looks like more is coming. It is essential festival-goers bring sufficient changes of clothes, wet weather gear and camping gear to stay dry."
"In addition please, please, please use the trains and National Express. Much of the car parking is forming part of the River Thames at the moment and we may have to use some edge of town park and ride schemes."
Weather.co.uk 5-day forecast for Reading can be found here. And Leeds here.
However, if you're getting a Train from London, please remember that they're doing friggin' engineering works. So you need to go via Waterloo. Full details here.
In other news, Squarepusher has cancelled his dance stage headline slot. Full DiS weekend preview to follow.
DiScuss: Are you ready to rock? Who you most looking forward to seeing? Buy or sell any tickets? Programmes, getcha programmes... TIMMAH!

Wet Camping Tips?
Ok, so my best tip is to take all your damp clothes to a lauderette in Reading on Saturday morning and get a service wash whilst scoffing a fry up or pub lunch. What's yours?-
Re: Wet Camping Tips?
My top tip is to sod reading and go to leeds and camp on top of a nice big hill. That way you get to sleep in relative dryness, then roll out of bed and slide down into the arena and hide in the new bands tent - that's where its all at anyway. Sounds rather a lot like glasto to me!
I'm just excited that I get even MORE use out of my bargainous £5 wellies and get to wear really nasty horrid poncho things for the same price. ACE!
I'll meet you all for some mud wrestling in the main arena at 6am Saturday morning, capish?

Well against expectations, Green Man was sunny the entire weekend and it only started raining as we drove home.
So prhaps there's still hope.
Or perhaps God's annoyed with Carling's ownership of the music industry.

Bloody rain, first Glasto pissed down, then Roskilde had the 3rd muddiest festival ever, now reading is turning into a swamp.
Still it's good to have the opportunity to attend.
Might have to miss all the main stage acts this year and stay inside the tiny carling tent. That's always where it's at though...saying that !!! are Dance tent, so are LCD and a whole bunch of great bands (Eastern Lane, Futureheads) are on the Radio one stage... -

Re: Floods & Hurricanes for Reading / Leeds
"recording commitments"
PARDON THE FUCK?
he's a fucking one man band! how can he not reschedule his own studio time (in his own flat?)
unless its the live musicians that are recording.
*w* - i havent won any tickets yet and i very much doubt will.
but note: bands you must see:
Mike patton vs rahzel
devendra banhart
tv on the radio
bloc party.
think i'll just go see them seperately.
in more comfort.
with better sound
and longer sets.

No mention of rain on the weather forecast for leeds.... None on the BBC forecast either! http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2589&links-
Re: Floods & Hurricanes for Reading / Leeds
well, there's a nice round sun for Reading on the Sat and Sun. Fri wil be soggy tho.
Still, rain can produce some interesting festival moments - like the people who trashed their own brollies in the pouring rain, Jimi Hendrix-style whilst watching Muse!
they then started trampling their own jackets into the mud as well, so not really sure what was going on there.

Floods & Hurricanes for Reading / Leeds
Someone had put an advert for a Leeds weekend ticket for £120 in the Leeds HMV on a shelf the other day. I nearly laughed my face off when I saw it. -
Floods & Hurricanes for Reading / Leeds
Pfft. Rain will be no obstacle to me in my retro porn wallpaper-coloured 8-man tent. Plus I'm in Leeds which will mean I'm in much less of a swamp than all the middle class student mofos at Reading.
And obviously when I'm off watching such lovely people as Pretty Girls Make Graves, Dillinger Escape Plan, Devendra Banhart, and British Sea Power I'll be covered by a rather large tent anyway. -
