It’s certainly the case that Kasabian really can talk the talk. They’ve already slagged all the easy targets in the NME, proclaimed that rock’n’roll runs in their veins and made allegiances with the right people. They clearly yearn for the bad boy status afforded to Oasis a decade ago, but their debut album hardly has the songs to elevate them to such levels of stardom.
While there is something seethingly primal about opener ‘Club Foot’ and parts of ‘Kasabian’ do effectively mimic the electroid-rock shapes of the ’Scream, it’s hardly rocket science these days and, frankly, The Cooper Temple Clause do it a whole lot better. ‘LSF’ and ‘Reason Is Treason’ see the band puff out their pigeon-chests, but for all their bravado the hooks and nuances are few and far between. By the dreary closer ‘U Boat’ you even start wondering if fellow revivalists The Music were actually that bad (they were).
Sure this album may well sound awesome if you’ve just snorted a metre of charlie or recently breakfasted from a menu of ‘shrooms and LSD, but for sober ears it’s enough to drive anyone to drugs.

"I can't believe people are still buying into this type of band because they snort coke and "bleed rock 'n' roll".
Are you sure you aren't talking about some garage punk fucktards or someone like the Libertines...?
Oh, fuck off n die! baggy was amazing and still is you cunts, I'd sooner listen to the Mondays and Roses than fuckin Razorlight!

They say they want an album as big and important as Definatly Maybe, but the difference is that Oasis were actually saying something with their music, Kasabian have nice tunes but say fuck all.
p.s. i like the The Music.

OceanStorm, you were 6 when I saw the Mondays at Eland road, they blew my mind and continue to excite now, have you ever even heard Bummed?
Re: Kasabian - Kasabian
Even if I was a foetus when you saw them, I'd still think they were shit. But you seem to have enjoyed their music, so evidently they did serve some sort of purpose :)

Kasabian - Kasabian
Tell that to all of those people who constantly vote The Stone Roses as the best debut LP of all time.
In truth, Kasabian are one of the most vital new bands to have appeared and this LP, if listened to with un-sneering ears, would pick up on the countless number of proper tunes it contains.
Re: Kasabian - Kasabian
Re: Kasabian - Kasabian
Re: Kasabian - Kasabian
The Stone Roses' album is held in high regard because of its context - it's not a timeless record that generations will come back to - merely a fairly good one.
Kasabian are OK, but to me they're just Xtrmntr-era Primal Scream. Xtrmntr is a fucking great album, but you can't base a career on it...
Re: Kasabian - Kasabian
Something that 'does well in the charts' is not the same as something regarded highly by everyone. Ask any band how highly they rate the Stone Roses.
Regardless of whether Kasabian are good or not, the fact is that the baggy era of the Roses and Mondays has had a timeless effect on British rock.
Re: Kasabian - Kasabian
(and that's before we even get onto Kasabian)
That's not to say *everything* of that era was/is despisable......but........oh fuck this, just go here and read this instead.

So. Much. Fucking. Sense.
And yes I did like some of the Roses' music. Hell I LOVED the Mondays and bought the Flowered Up album. Irrespective of being 8/9/10 at the time etc etc. But most of what Stubbs writes is near-irrefutable...

Plenty of bands are popular. It doesn't make them good.

I need it, like potions
These drugs are just an hour away
Come on it, electronic
A polyphonic prostitute, the motor's on fire
Messiah for the animals"
Lyrics like this are indicative of a 'vital new band'? Goodness me, I hope not. The fact that I'm not adverse to The Stone Roses just makes Kasabian seem even worse to me.

ooh, id have slapped him if he tried to tell me leicester was northern though. whats wrong with being a midlander anyway?
Kasabian - Kasabian
Too true. They just think they're good from the north (i wont give it the importance of a capital letter) and because they like The Stone Roses. I like The Stone Roses because they were a genuinely good band and made some great pop songs (Waterfall, She Bangs...) Kasabian are just another load of revivalists devaluing the originals.

Razorlight are signed to Mercury - how do you think they've had hits?
And all the other bands supposedly on 'independent labels', you reckon they're not backed by major label balls?

I will give you an honest assessment.
Tom is a really nice sound bloke. he comes out with the funniest quotes in everyday life - he is not an arsehole at all - he is a genuinely funny (if slightly simple) man. Even though i am not friends with him now I have not got a bad word to say about him and he is a brilliant soulfull singer.
Serge - ok, good looking but up his own arse, very talented though - from when I knew them they have hundreds of songs that sound very different to what they have brought out and those songs were very good. They have just chose to go in this direction at the moment.
They will be around for ages becase Serge and Chris are very talented songwriters.
Chris Karloff is the biggest wanker I know - he does need bum raping.
The bass player - always very quiet but seemed nice.
You will not get a more fairer review than that.

Re: Kasabian - Kasabian
Admittedly this album is not the best, but there are some quality songs on it. As a live band Kasabian are great and unfortunately the album doesn't get the same energy and power across.
The poor review and rating the album has recieved from Drowned in Sound will in no way affect the success or popularity of the band. and as for the "September 2006 - Kasabi-Who?" we all know that won't be the case, so live with it.
I'm off to read the NME, a real music magazine.
