After five years together, Leicester-based rock crew The Copperpot Journals have, sadly, called it a day.

Singer and guitarist Gareth Owen (interviewed with drummer Euan by DiS here) has left a message concerning the split on the band's website.

Owen will be pursuing some acoustic adventures in his new outfit Rutland Pumas, with a release hopefully ready by November. Guitarist Stuart Turner will be making his acting debut in a forthcoming film version of 'Pride & Prejudice', while drummer Euan has been recording with ambient duo Action Force and Aurelie, and bassist Lee Dodson is preparing himself for fatherhood.

You can keep up to date with Rutland Puma goings-on via the Copperpot Journals' current website for the time being.

Copperpot Journals Split

Meh. Saw them live about a year ago.. they were alright, nothing special, can't say i'm too distraught by the split...

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

Good band. Glass and Chrome was one of my fave tracks of last year

Copperpot Journals Split

I'm gutted. This band were brilliant...

Copperpot Journals Split

What a waste of great talent...

Copperpot Journals Split

Rutland Pumas - class name. I wonder if thy have Jeffrey Hudson on Vox!

Far better name than the Copperpot Journals.....

Never heard their music mind.

Copperpot Journals Split

No!!!! Why do so many great bands split before I get to see them live?! Shit! Bollocks! Fuck!

Pilots was one of the best albums of 2003 (and last year was a Very Strong year for albums) and although the name was a bit shit, the band were fucking brilliant!!!

Gutted!!!!!

Copperpot Journals Split

who?

can't say i'm gonna lose any sleep over this...

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

Why post then?

Copperpot Journals Split

man what a wonderful band, i cant believe another one has bitten the dust. :o(

Copperpot Journals Split

'..Lee Dodson is preparing himself for fatherhood'; a special waste of talent if he's becoming a priest.

Copperpot Journals Split

Absolutely gutted. I haven't been to see them since Pilots came out. And now I never will :-( They could really have gone places.

Copperpot Journals Split

A shame. A pretty good band who just never managed to get going under the wave of all things emo. Emphasised by the lack of a crowd at their Underworld gig in Jan. For Leicester bands theres always My Awesome compilation though.

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

Another fantastic band. Leicester's scene isn't too bad at the moment.

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

why post? just thought it odd that the front page news is about a totally obscure leicester band.

nm.

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

just because you don't know who they are doesn't make them obscure, they played in London as much as they did anywhere else.

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

I think they suffered from the fact that they made their name through the "UK emo scene" and people were expecting them to be emo but got completely baffled by Pilots.

underworld gig

with otherwise? those of us that were there knew we were blessed.

Copperpot Journals Split

This is DIS remember, they specialise in obscure bands, most of whom I love, although Im not big CJ fan I do have their awsome last album, shame they split.

Copperpot Journals Split

my awesome compilation are shit. the best band in leicester at the minute are redcarsgofaster by a country mile...

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

MAC are about the worst band I've heard, like, ever.
Like, really.
Sorry.

Re: Copperpot Journals Split

No, the best band in Leicester are a*class, although not really a 'band' band.

Copperpot Journals Split

yeah my awesome compilation are pretty rubbish, they do try though. the copper pots were easily the best band in leicester, perhaps ever to come out of leicester, pees me off...

Copperpot Journals Split

i am hearing on the leicester grape vine that they are reforming with a slightly different line-up, plus the drummer has an instrumental band who will be gigging soonish, yippie!
