Parlophone to release Mansun best of next month; details here.
Mansun's previously announced best of is to be released by Parlophone next month - September 18th to be exact.
Available on CD, special edition CD/DVD and download, the compilation has been assembled by Paul Draper and Dominic Chad over the past few months. The DVD features all 16 of Mansun's promo videos, plus a documentary, seemingly lost 'Super-8' footage and a live recording of 'Taxloss' from the Brixton Academy in 1998.
I decree that Mansun are one of the greatest bands this country has ever produced and if you have never made the effort to listen to them before, not only are you a complete dick, but you are now required by law to purchase this best of.

Or you could just buy Six
The DVD makes this pretty tempting, mind.
That sounds
like one of this year's most essential purchases.
Much missed, dear old Mansun...
I genuinely think "I Can Only Disappoint U" was one of the best songs ever written.
not sure I'd go that far
but it is a criminally underrated gem
It's probably more accurate to say
"one of my favourite" than "one of the best" as these things are incredibly subjective.
...
I do often forget about Mansun, good band.
not sure why I was expecting scorn to be poured...
...on one of my favourite bands, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that remembers they were genius.
Agreed.
Great band, hugely under-rated and missed a lot.
Still waiting on Mr Draper's solo album, which he's apparently working on.
Mansun appreciation.... finally
six is probaby in my top five albums ever - kleptomania is briliant also.
i have mansun's first single
on vinyl, back when they were called 'manson'...but it's a promo copy and only a handful were made. so it's special. and
mansun's first single
I have that too when they were called Manson... and that white vinyl skin up pin up. I have most of their stuff on vinyl (apart from Kleptomania) so this CD/DVD combo is very welcome.
Just noticed
that 'Skin Up Pin Up' isn't on this record. Still, wasn't one of my favourites anyway...
Lead singer drinks in
Weybridge.
No relevance really but just wanted to say so.
hmm
well, i'm never going to buy Little Kix but i'd quite like to have the singles off it, along with Take it Easy. The DVD seals the deal.
i loved Mansun. I get derided whenever I say this but I hear a lot of Paul Draper in the vocal stylings of Keisha from the Sugababes.
Take it or leave it.
Take it Easy Chicken...
what a tune.
FLOURELLA! YES!
my favourite Mansun song opens up the best off, woo for amazing b-sides.
hmm...
...by best off i mean best of, and by best of I mean the DVD. Sorry...
has anyone noticed the
similarities between, mars voltas 'roulette dares' and mansuns 'negative'?
it pisses me off when
When a band calls a singles compilation a "best of", as with Mansun, especially Mansun, this is about as far from true as you can get. Would any fan of the band, or even the band themselves really put "Electric Man" in a 17 track "best of"? I doubt it.
Even so, Mansun were easily one of the best bands of the late 90s, and that is a good CD, especially if you don't have the albums. I already have the albums AND all of the singles though, so I can't see me getting this. Don't think I'd want to sit through a DVD of those loons more than once either!
woop!
was expecting a mansun backlash on here but all the nme journos of 5 years ago must be busy
yay for the dvd!
blanny!
hooray for Mansun
Computeroake (thats what they're all calling it) should've involved a Mansun session
Mmmm
Feel the love for Mansun. Makes me all warm inside.
Oh the irony!
I'm guessing that this thread is full of ironic comments? I'm not great with being that clever so i'll just stick to the truth that they were one of the most piss awful bands I have ever had the misfortune to hear.
I remember one Reading where the choice of headliner was Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Mansun, we tried them both, twice, but no they were both as bad and awful as each other, and Mansun were playing to one of the smallest audiences the tent had ever seen. Think it was the same year the Frank & Walters had filled the tent. Now that really is irony!
I even saw the fucking Bluetones blow them off stage once.
yesyesyesyesyesyes
It's on the must buy list this! The video for Legacy is fookin ace! And those b-sides... ahhhh Mansun, how we miss ya.
joy!
mansun were absolute class, it feels quite sad that this will be, i guess, the last ever release under that name. really looking forward to pauls comeback as well!
One of my favorites
Mansun, such a great band, Grey Lanterns and Six were phenomenal, Six wasn't as good but still had a lot of great songs on it. I've got all the albums but I'll be buying this for the DVD no doubt
whoops
meant to say that "Little Kix" wasn't as good, not "Six". Six is top tier IMHO
Wow.....
I really expected loads of "Negative" (sorry!)comments towards the most underated band this country has produced!!
Some amazing videos on that DVD and also some that I can't remember.
Almost as good news as seeing Kasabian return!
