It's about that time of year where you hear... Mumble, Rumble, grind, rumble... as the Glastonbury rumourmill gets into full swing...

First up... following the untimely death of broadcaster John Peel, Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has hinted that The Undertones may be the first band to headline the newly renamed John Peel Stage (formerly the New Bands tent) at next year’s festival. What with ‘Teenage Kicks’ widely known to be Peel’s favourite song.

"As soon as The Undertones found about the John Peel Stage they were on the phone asking if they could play on the stage because John helped make them too," Eavis told the Bristol Evening Post. "I expect they will be headlining on the John Peel Stage on the Saturday."

He added: "John was always involved in Glastonbury and he was instrumental in the success of many bands that have played there. I remember him talking about The Smiths in 1983 so I went to watch them play at Bristol University and they were terrific, so I booked them for Glastonbury 1984. John Peel helped to make them, and they were brilliant - that's what helped turn Glastonbury around really."

Outkast with their massive crossover hit of last year are also rumoured to be playing/returning, as well as Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol and The Streets. DiS would like to add the - made-up cus it'd be obvious and good if it happens - rumours that Tom Waits, The Bangles, A Silver Mount Zion, Bjork, Elton John (just imagine the glamour and the chance to hear 'Rocketman' and 'Tiny Dancer' back to back), Prince, Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Beck, Bruce Springsteen, will all be playing. Post your rumour suggestions below...

Tickets should be on sale from 1st April 2005.

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Prince is rumoured to play EVERY YEAR. But given that UK tour dates have been less than forthcoming perhaps the rumour is true. I don't think Bono and co can be avoided this year. I wouldnt put a tenner against the Undertonnes not headling the Sunday night on either the JP stage, other or pyramid.

Bjork would be good - but that won't happen...

they should have a white noise tent.

Re: Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

What about the black noise tent, racist pigdog!

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

kasabian, kaiser chiefs and koreans anyone? Is the newly named 'john peel stage' still gonna have new bands then? im hoping for the above three plus....well hope of the states, chikinki, boywithatoy, help she cant swim...

Re: Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Hope Of The States played the New Stage this year, so I'd hope they'll graduate to the Other Stage in 2005, assuming they're touring at the time.

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast

i've heard that menswear are going to be headlining

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Im going to be twenty one this year and I really want to go to glastonbury no matter who's playing. Though would squeal with excitement all the way there if Help she can't swim were playing! And various others as well.

Re: Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

i hear that bearsuit are headlining the whole thing

Re: Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

i hear they're doing a 12 hour prog set.

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Prince and Elton would be great.

I am serious about Prince and semi serious about Reg Dwight.

Bjork said she wasn't touring 'Medulla' at all recently, no?

I think she said she was going to start recording again as soon as possible.

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Both The Undertones and Outkast have been confirmed now, I think Depeche Mode would be a great band to finish the festival, don't they have a new album out next year? it's possible,

Re: Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

yeah The 'Mode would be immense!

Hows about New Order doing some live dates again too?

Re: Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Out

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

U2 said that they are definietly NOT playing this year, thrasher.

Re: Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

Well d'uh, this year has been and gone. But yeah, they've said they're not playing in 2005, and there probably won't be a Glastonbury in 2006 as it will be fallow-year (following 1996 and 2001).

Glastonbury Rumourmill Begins: Undertones, Outkast, Prince...

christ. i'm still bitter about not getting tickets. i've
got to get over this.

don't

worry about it.

Glastonbury this year was a pain in the arse. Quite happily will skip it next year - End of the Road - Latitude all of these are more like Glasto then Glasto is.
