most disappointing new band is....

for me Bloc Party - She's Hearing Voices was really good but their new single? is that the sound of a 43 year old a&r man turning them into shed 7? - a total shame

and the same for Grand National - If deck shoes and chinos had a sound then it would be their album. Next!

If someone can prove to me that shed 7 managed to write a song as good as banquet in the entirity of their pointless, turgid career, then I'll eat both my hat and my collection of shine compilations.

I'm with KTCfac. Bloc Party are pretty good but I'm not sure why the world is wetting itself about them. Banquet 7/10.

That said, I'm not too sure Shed7 ever scaled the dizzy heights of 7/10...

I think they're refering to BP's "Little Thoughts".

I really like this tune, but think their previous singles were better.

anyway I liked t be prvoed wrong as I'm not precious about music - so I want to believe they will improve

and for the record shed 7 were atrocious

Little Thoughts is good, but it's not as good as Banquet.

And yes, Shed 7 were atrocious. It's just that Chasing Rainbows was alright.

shed 7 was just a band I plucked out of the air to represent generic indie - I wish I had said Kingmaker or Bennett or something - imagien that??

I like Going for Gold when I was at uni and feel I may live to regret mentioning that

anyway there are far worse bands out there as we all know............

Too right Damien Rice are a disappointing band. I turned up expecting to see people, and what did i get?! One man!! What sort of band is that?!

And before anyone says "a one man band", he wasn't, cos he didn't have a drum on his back. so there.

without wishing to start a 'sheds' debate they were really a poor man's everything band really - the ultimate bedroom band who made it - I saw rick witter once at York Station - swaggering around like he was in a Verve video - and he wasn't even signed anymore - bless

and secret machines aren't totally grabbing me yet.......

Except Chasing Rainbows was quite good.

Shed Seven were ok in my book. Some might say they were generic, run of the mill indie; but they were a really good live band, and they had the occasional moment of inspiration.

Last studio record was their best, too.

although i don't think he's of that 'ilk', i just think he's being unfairly lumped with them.

Snow Patrol are just insipid and really just there for people who think they are into music coz they have a mate who is like super furry animals and badly drawn boy - and belle & Sebastian of course (sorry that was people with no friends looking for fat indie girls)

without being an indie purist there is a real hiarachy of old men who have reappropriated music for themselves so people think that HIgh Fidelity is real - thats why we end up with man fantasies like Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Rapture once they released Love is All - they were a bit dull at GLastonbury but that was because they didnt have Bez this year

Razorlight are very, VERY overrated. But, the prize for most disappoiting new band, for me anyway, goes to Kasabian.

pretty much everyband everyones mentioned, bloc party definitely. they cant even spell block, the fucking idiots. unless theyre talking about having a party all over the eastern bloc, buit i doubt it, i reckon theyre just thick. and rotten.

Bloc Party are great, but Little Thoughts was a bit crap compared to their earlier stuff which we all (mostly) know and love.

Most disappointing new band: dunno really

Most disappointing established band: Ash, completely overrated, thought they might actually start being good when Orpheus was released, but followed that with the wank stained worst song of the year so far that is Starcrossed.

It's all a matter of opinion. I haven't exactly been disappointed by any band but i'm not too keen on Keane, The Open, The Stills, the ordinary boys and dogs die in hot cars.

god some people are so fucking bitchy on this forum... ok so snow patrol have had 3 albums, well i'd never heard of them until this year and so in my eyes they are a new band and an utter wank one at that.

I really like Bloc Party.

Ash are def over rated and i think the Others as well and Kelis - i know most peeps like her but she really winds me up for some reason! Hey-Ho

Ash are on their way out hence was Hatherley is testing the water with her 'solo' career - they make teenage records bought by 32 year olds - Dogs Die in Hot Cars? - are they a retarded version of Gorky's who were pisspoor anyway?

and yes the Killers - if they were from Dawlish and were 25 they would never have got past sending a second demo to rough trade - yanks eh?

Yep !

The Killers sound like a more dancey Shed 7 ( come...they have almost identical voices and very similar songs !)

Oh, and Razorlight are gash but will no doubt be around for ages due to the "i used to be in the Libertines dont you know" link that the singer has.

Why has noone noticed that they sound EXACTLY like the Libertines...its strange how they havent been sued for breach of copyright yet !

The Killers are Ok, first four or five tracks on their album are pretty good, but the rest of the album is average.

Same again for razorlight, a clutch of good songs but nothing extraodinary.

I suppose I disagree with many of the board on the libertines. I'm no mullet wearing army clad groupie but I thought their first album was very very good. As for their second album, the single is impressive. So im looking forward to it.

Ordinary Boys... the worst band that have appeared in a long, long fucking time. I don't particularly like "the Libs" either but they do have a couple of decent songs, and they'd be amazing if The Clash had never existed. It's more the libertines fans i dislike than the band itself i spose.

Although you're trying to be funny and ironic, you actually have a point....well, just. Even though ThisGirl aren't a "new band" per se, their new album is tripe compared to their earlier stuff. I don't care that DiS released the album; I'm merely stating my view that ThisGirl lack the originality/energy they had pre-Dis signing.
