Princess Headbutt owe a degree of gratitude to the Chicago-based post-rock fraternity of the late nineties - that much is clear from the bastard-awkward time signatures that lie scattered, randomly, across these three tracks - but nevertheless possess that special, unique something that demands investigation by all that can see past the silly, silly band name.

Of the three tracks, 'Animal Empire' is a quirky, jagged standout, singer Jenny's crystal-clear vocals adding gloss to some deliciously lo-fi instrumental fun and games. Her trumpet playing is another ace, adding texture to music that might otherwise be considered generic by snobby, Wire-reading post-rockers. As they stand, these songs are damn near essential, as they're both accessible and challenging - sounds like an impossibility on paper, but give this 3" CD (oooh, novelty value) a spin and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Still a silly name, though.

Princess Headbutt - The Emerald Beak EP

This is really excellent. They're great live too. And I like the name. It seems appropriate.
