What is it about Sheffield? In the past few months, an assortment of sound-alike bands have sprung out from the Yorkshire city, seeking the same meteoric rise to fame as indie demi-gods Arctic Monkeys. Wishful thinking, because these bands scream out average from every ‘witty’ lyric and insipid verse. One of these bands is Little Man Tate, and their second single with V2 – ‘House Party At Boothy’s’ - possesses precious little substance.

It starts off so well: the lively tempo backed by a memorable riff hints at something a bit better than the verse that succeeds it. Soon after, all that promise is lost in a swathe of cultural references, manly chants and tired guitar chords that local counterparts Milburn might even be ashamed of. The lyrics are, of course, one of the main inadequacies of the song: throwing up, passing out, and playing the Playstation are the central themes, all done in a narrative that sounds ever so contrived, and equally annoying.

I’m just hoping the ship has already sailed for bands like Little Man Tate, as I’m tired of them already.

Ah come on...

...Little Man Tate are loads better than The Monkeys....

which..

doesnt say much

Stuff like this just ten a penny now, isn't it?

I still think Arctic Monkeys do it really well, but we don't need any more...

Yep.

I like The Arctic Monkeys. Just like I liked the Libertines. But all the copy-cat bands with little substance that spawn after their success annoys me.

good review

very poor song.

Whats

with the awful band name aswell? this whole genre bands escapes me, they all sound so mediocre to me!?

A review that reviews the song

That's rare on DiS.

I disagree though.

.

Winner stays on.....wtf...possibly the worst line in a somg ever. They are an insult to the guitar.

But Jim Bob

is in the video - therefore a good 9/10

just cos

there's loads of bands that sound like them, doesn't make them bad surely? although i haven't heard them, i've been told they're 'fun'.

Why is it also

That a lot of these songs seem to bait scenesters, when they're the only people who'll listen to such tosh?

The View do it as well.

its all a conspiracy...

Nice to see this getting a worse review mark than The Mardy Bums. Hahaha.

Lyrics That Do What They Say On The Tin

The lyrics by Arctic Monkeys,Milburn,Little Man Tate and Rev And The Makers (South Yorkshire)and Kaiser Chiefs, The Cribs,Pigeon Detectives(West Yorkshireall use a narrative that is not ambiguious. So maybe common ground there.
However if anyone thinks the sounds of Arctic Monkeys and Little Man Tate are similar you need to get your ears shringed. Now Arctic Monkeys and Milburn thats a different story.
