All together now, boys and girls:

“Tommy gun
Bloodlust
A perfect teenhood
FUCK YOU”

Fuck you? Fuck me, never have I felt so exhilarated. It’s not like I didn’t know, like I wasn’t fully prepared for the now ten-legged rock and roll monster that is this Texan troupe, this band of brothers that leave nothing but death and quite possibly tinnitus in their wake. I knew it’d be savage, with blood on the walls and sweat on the ceiling, but damn, as I stand here smiling like a fucking idiot child, I never once anticipated such ferocity. The naysayers can keep their false idols glamorised in the gutter press; the true believers can toss the deceivers onto the pyre and scatter their ashes over town from the peak of King’s Reach Tower – this is rock and motherfucking roll.

They’re like gods up there – legs spread, eyes wide, hands reaching from a front row desperate to touch everything their parents told them to steer clear of. You can see the passion in their eyes, mirroring ours; you can still hear the bile and vitriol in the delivery of ‘Mistakes And Regrets’. Her name is still at the top of that list, and on every line after it, of that you can be sure. Cut this band and they will bleed rock and roll soul for you in a way unseen and unheard since Led Zeppelin. The dual drumkits are hammered like a war’s coming; guitars are mangled and beaten until they’re breathing their last, desperate for a swift fatal blow. We… we just stand here, smiling, breathing it all in, feeling our way through the maelstrom. ‘Caterwaul’ and ‘Classic Art Showcase’ might be new songs, but they feel as vital as anything else does; ‘How Near How Far’ is triumphant, ‘Another Morning Stoner’ divine, ‘Totally Natural’ brings the fucking ceiling in, sweat and all. The death blows are delivered, and it’s over.

They’re smiling, I’m smiling, we’re all smiling. The cold night air hits us like an alarm clock after a beautiful dream. The real world seems somehow different as I skip to the tube station, mind full of too many superlatives to ever write here and retain any coherence. Trail Of Dead are the rock band of a lifetime, our lifetime. Fuck the others where they lie in their gutters. A million out of five.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

I couldn't make it in the end. Thurday ended with something of an emergency. :(

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

'World's Apart' has to be one of the worst album titles ever.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

mikey - you're on it. i was at their glasgow gig and it was amazing. indispensable band.
and isn't it worlds apart? i've seen it written world's apart, but that doesn't seem to make much sense!

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

The promo I have has it written both ways!

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Mmmm this was one of the best gigs I've been to all year.

Anyone got a setlist?

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

it was fucking superb, one of the best i've seen from them. seemed really short too, they were there one minute, gone the next. taking photos from right next to the big speakers all night means my ears are fucked - i've had hardcore tinnitus all day. extremely fucking worth it though.

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Aha! So it was you up there on the left on that little stand.

Was just a little bit good. Shame there was no "Mark David Chapman" tho.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

That's not a pic from the gig.

GEN I think I saw you taking pics in front the speakers, I worried about your hearing breifly.

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

haha i worried about my hearing for.. hmm, i suppose it would have been about 35 minutes, wouldn't it....

it has come back now though. so that's alright.

i wish i'd been standing there when part chimp were on though. it would have been an interesting physiological experiment, in a "how much can one person stand" kind of way.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Oh god, i would've given my right arm to see them.. I hate living near neither Glasgow nor London.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

'Gen' you won't be glad you got tinnitus in the long run, i wouldn't wish it on anyone(except my enemies of course).

Has Neil definitely gone?

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

oh i wasn't glad i got it at all, i'm just glad the gig and the photos i got were both worth it!

it's gone for now anyway. shan't be standing next to any speakers in the near future... [well, until trail of dead come back to town, anyway.......]

Oh man. I cannot wait for their new record. Sadly being at university means soulseek doesnt work so I have to be a good boy and buy it. Which is a good thing.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Ah yes...what a gig. And Part Chimp supporting too...

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Put it this way, after 'Feed the WORLD' has spent this month(and next) at no. 1, we'll all be sick & tired of anything with the word 'WORLD' in it. My God! last year's Xmas no.1 was 'Mad World'.It seriously sounds like something Peter Gabriel would call one of his inflated, pompous,self-indulgent pieces of 'work'.

This has been the WORLD of Spider, folks. Over and out.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

gotta say, after getting the new record to review the other day, i was gutted

some pretty piss poor songs if ever i heard em....

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

well the first track is a homage to van helsing, the second is admittedly great. after that, they start retreading ground, bringing in sampled kids talking, drum patterns we've heard before and a general sense that the whole album is either ironic (and a little weary for it) or over-produced in an attempt to break the mainstream (which i doubt it will either)

all in all, i feel they've been going backwards on both the last records. they're still better than a lot of whats out there and insanely good live, but they need to rediscover some of that venom on record that they have in the flesh

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

My God, "sampled kids talking" should be seen and not heard.

My cousin saw this band in Glasgow, and said they weren't as good as they used to be.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Pound for pound the most powerful rock and roll band in the world. Period. Theyre from Texas too! :)

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Bullshit.Just because they're from 'Texas' doesn't mean they're great.

Re: ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Too true, but in this case it works to a tee.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

this gig was very good, totally natural, perfect teenhood and richter scale madness in one night that is just crazy.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

they were amazing. hands down. i got hurled about and i left with the biggest grin on my face. well worth the hellish megabus back to manchester. what a band.
