Artists: Razorlight
Boy's own band Razorlight have announced a trio shows in February next year.

Borrell and the boys start at the Manchester Apollo on February 5, followed by Glasgow's Carling Academy on February 6 and finish up at posh old Alexandra Palace on the 11th.

Razorlight have recently been in Los Angeles recording new material with Ethan Johns, who has worked with Kings of Leon and Ryan Adams.

We have an exclusive interview with the band, from San Francisco last month, coming very soon. Exciting, non?

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

in my mind...

golden touch = rubbish
stumble and fall= good
vice = rubbish
in the city = good

i'm confused.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

nah, vice is ok. basically, everything else i've heard is awful. and heard them live on that XFM thing - his voice makes me want to kill him.

Razorlight go super-size.

Someone explain this band to me, please?
Why?
How?
And for how much longer?

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

i cant make up my mind with them. i love rip it up and stumble and fall but the rest of the songs arent even fillers ....its a strange one. they were good at reading though

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

Why? Cos NME loves em
How? Cos NME loves em
how much longer? Until NME develops better taste in music?

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

they sound like the Strokes
non?

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

They've only just begun. They're going to be around FOREVER...

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

1) I have no idea.

2) I'd love to kill them using a hacksaw. Or covering them in beetroot juice. See how many radio 2 listeners will listen to them still.

'They're so like Nirvana and stuff that they must be liked Deardry'

'Yeah, isn't it great that I can describe this as grunge whilst listening to Tony Hart. He used to mould morph by the way, Doris dear.'

'Where's my tea?' exclaims the husband and Frank sinatra fan.

3)As long as the people who listen to coldplay find NME cover bands interesting, Razorlight will continue to exist. But we should revolt because they are a bunch or corporate cunts, in the worst possible way. Seriously, I think Busted are fantastic, they don't pretend - Razorlight are the biggest fucking music liars of this century so far. TWATS.

Razorlight go super-size.

Cutter! I'm hearing ya! Good songs and the drumming sounded good on then songs and then everything else seems pisha nd I saw them at Reading (on tv mind) and they looked wankety wank! Faux rock and roll - JB thought about smashing his guitar and had 2nd thoughts - places it down and stumbled and fell over the lead and the rest of the band (sans that drummer) weren't holding it together!

Razorlight go super-size.

Non.

i really really powerfully dislike every song i've heard this band do (including the album), i powerfully dislike johnny borrell and what he stands for. and i powerfuly dislike there is little discernable talent

Razorlight go super-size.

Too much too soon. Razorlight are being very very silly. Headlining venues this big WAYYYYY to soon!!! The debut album I thought, was pretty darn good, but erm....No, they shouldn't be playing shows this huge. They'll just look silly.

Razorlight go super-size.

Average band with one above average song (rip it up), why are there so many average guitar bands about at present its really starting to bother me, whos going to support, the kaiser chiefs? NME has a lot to answer for, likewise the Alexandra Palace.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

HEY.
Ally Pally is, like, my garden.
Leave it alone.
(but Razorlight, do what you like to them)

Razorlight go super-size.

has anyone else heard golden touch?
good song no?

im not saying one song makes everything but they aint that bad.
people love em.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

golden touch = awful song. no substance. and the guitar lines. and the lyrics. all shite. sorry. (inmyhonestopinion)

Razorlight go super-size.

See, it's weird.
In theory, I should utterly hate Razorlight, in much the same way I phenomously hate The Strxkxs and feel equally baffled by the successes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Shite Shites.
BUT...
And this really is a big BUT.
There's something endearing about Razorlight and something ridiculously infectious about their songs. Infact, it took seeing them at the Astoria and Reading this year to totally get it.
Don't get me wrong, the album isn't in my top 5 of the year, but it is in my top 20.
There's something really deserving about their success they've had and something warming about the fact yer average chavvy 5 records a year kinda muthas are listening to Razorlight instead of Will Lisp or Jasquealia. But yeah, the way Mercury have done it hasn't given the band much credibility, true. But what they have done is given the band a chance to hit up America, steal the hearts of Death Cab fans and have a full career, which I'm hopeful is going to get a lot more musically interesting.
Plus, it's one of the most unlikely things in the world for a big Bukowski fan to climb so far up the mainstream ladder.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

I see the white stripes and the yeah yeah yeahs (and maybe even the strokes) as the better, more credible bands of this pathetic nme hyped rock n roll genre, they seem to offer enough variation on an over used formula to make something interesting, or at least relatively entertaining. However, Rzorlight just seem to be jumping on their bandwagon with a watered down, more accessible style (not that I'm saying YYYs or the 'stripes aren't accessible).

Razorlight irritate me. The singles have been prety good, there's no denying that Golden Touch is a great pop song, but it's essentially the kind of stuff most of the type of people who come here would like when they are 14, as a stepping stone to better bands.. Though I suppose that cant be such a bad thing.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

I think Borrel's sheer arrogance is enough to put me them. But, i did watch, and enjoy some of the stuff at leeds, and they do have some nice pop songs. However, their rank in my books is only slightly higher than kasabian. And we all know about kasabian.

The Strokes, on the other hand, are right up there for me. Noone can deny the first time they heard, say, the modern age, and at the time they were maybe the most iconic bridging of the gaps in quite a while. People discussed the Strokes credibly. I'm talking first album here, though.

And Bukowski. Bridging on the back of Miller, he is a flailing example of much better work, his idioms an annoying habit of literary growth. He was too late, with immature ideals, and spawned generations of distincly unidiosyncratic idiosyncracies. I feel he is a waste, and made waste of hundreds, but that might just be me.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

'to put me them.' i have no idea what this means, and don't really remember what it was supposed to be. but i don't like Razorlight much, lets keep it at that.

Razorlight go super-size.

Razorlight:

Most of their b sides are brilliant, especially those to Rock and Roll Lies and CD 1 and 2 of Rip It Up.

However the album is a big steaming pile of dog turd with awful production and the the new versions of the pre Golden Touch singles are rubbish.

It also pisses me off how Jonny keeps telling everyone how amazing a songwriter he is when he doesn't deliver the goods. On the basis of all their songs thus far, Razorlight are just an O.K. band, nothing less, nothing more.

Now get me a pint of milk and a packet of pork scratchings, I'm off for a poo and a wee.

Razorlight go super-size.

They are a tad over-rated.

Razorlight go super-size.

come on guys they arn't that bad are they?!?!?!

(answers on a postcard)

Razorlight go super-size.

The music's good, Borrell's a twat, he's trying to be James Dean.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

How's that? I don't see Dean as one of his influences at all

Razorlight go super-size.

If this were a cartoon sitcom, Brian Griffin would by now have walked in with a rolled-up newspaper and hit Mr Borrell on the head with it repeatedly, saying "No! No!". Damn real life...

Razorlight go super-size.

"Exciting, non?"

Err...no, actually, it isn't. Sorry there...

Razorlight go super-size.

good songs + good live show = lots of fans = supersized gigs.......go figure......
you dont really expect them to play the dublin castle do??????

Razorlight go super-size.

Rip it up is a good tune but the rest are kinda samey. I agree that things are perhaps in fast forward but hey, if they pull it off, congrats to them.

Razorlight go super-size.

I don't think wee kids liking Razorlight over Jamelia is a great thing at all. At least the latter has some claim to being a good pop star, not just some over-rated arse without much decent musical output.

Razorlight go super-size.

Totally agree with my namesake. Sean's absolutely right. I hate the Strokes and Shite Stripes but I love Razorlight. If you don't like Razorlight its as simple as this: DONT GO THE FUCKING GIG. Of course, I will be going as they are a cracking live band. The boy Borrel is indeed a twat but that shouldnt matter if the music's good, right? I mean, Thom Yorke's a twat but look at Radiohead's success.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

No they are not a good band live. And boards are for discussion, I'm enjoying what people have to say. So shut up. As for sucess as a measure of good music, c'mon man. The problem with Razorlight is their perpetuating this marketing style of rock thats suffocating real music by leading people to believe that what they are doing is the real. They take all the attention and are mainstream while presenting themselves like an underground band. Just listen to stuff like Death From Above 1979 and it's obvious what quality is, and wht bands like Razorlight lack. It's bad 'cause without basis for comparison you'll never know what your missing. Sure, like 'em if you like 'em but it's hard to judge that without some sort of real basis.

Razorlight go super-size.

i really really object to people saying johnny is arrogant or a twat or whatever! surely you can see that this is a meda image that is cleverly designed to make everyone talk about his band, want to listen to his songs to see if he's right and ultimately make him loads of money! and considering you're all talking about him its clearly working! far from being arrogant, he's actually an incredibly clever business-minded individual who knows how to get the most media interest in his band. as well as that, he is actually an incredibly lovely person who really belives in what he does and does it well.

Razorlight go super-size.

right.... erm...
"i suppose borrell is arrogant but as said before it isnt really a handicap and it isnt really unexpected. their main strength/weakness is that they're a popular band who accept the fact that they are 'popular' and so they arent overly clever or lazy about making their music."

anyways: i like razorlight, i like their album, i think they're amazing live. that's pretty much a] set me in the corner of this thread and b] placed me in a group of borrell loving indie-girls, yeah i said it - what.
i swear, if one more person compares them to the killers i will hurt them.

Razorlight go super-size.

well i dnt no wer most of this are from or wtf they listn to but everyone i have spoken to like razorlight and i feel they are more original than a lot of new bands i dnt see the link between the strokes and them either

Razorlight go super-size.

Razorlight like most bands today are doing good music......their frontman might be a gobby shite, but thats no reason for us to hate the rest of them. Vice and Rip It Up are 2 of the coolest tunes i have hrd for a while. May be they are jumping the gun a bit with their Super sizing so early on...but that doesnt change the fact that they are fucking cool. the albums brilliant and as for Mr Borrell well it must be a bad boys and good girl thing. And please....why must everyone compare these guys to The strokes and the killers and wateva wateva....Johnny truly loves making music and lives for it .he has a passion and a zing for life so let him fucking well get on with it without the bitchin'.... Johnny, Carl, Bjorn and Andy ...Rock on..........

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

It's interesting to read this kind of comment from somebody of your age. Don't take offence, but I'd assumed the only people buying these records were 14-to-18-year-old NME-reading types and lager boys on the razz three nights a week, looking for the next Oasis/Blur/whatever sounds good pished up in the back of an Escort.

Johnny Borrel's a twit. If his band were capable of something worth a damn, then his ego'd be tolerable. As it is, I wouldn't hesitate to punch him out if I saw him.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

my age...wat the fuck has age got to do with liking good music when you hear it. i mean ...no my good man, i dont talk offence to you thinking that. im a chik, i have never got pished neither was i when i heard these guys......i dont know anyone with an escort....(wats do u mean when ur r on the razz....out of interest??)

i dnt want to get into a slagging johnny and co contest...i like em....any1 can fuck it, lump it...leave it.whicheva 1 of these takes their fancy.........for tonite i bid u all farewell...

plz dnt be offended by any of my comments Mr Mike underscore Diver.(oh + i neva really hrd oasis or blur(nt that i dnt like them or anything)

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

what stupid sterotyping i'm most certainly over 18, i hardly ever read NME and dislike lager with a preference for a good ale. I think Razorlight are great, their music is catchy and addictive but I wouldn't class it as one dimensional. Sure its not the most distinct layered arrangement in the world but I don't think that really matters, we have other bands to do that for us.
