Speculation is rife that the newly-crowned John Peel Stage (formerly the New Bands stage) is to replace the Dance Tent behind the Main Stage.

The move would probably see the Peel Stage expanded in size following last year, which saw punters spilling out of the tent for many of the more popular bands.

The popularity of mainstream dance DJs has fallen away somewhat over the last few years, with the formerly crammed dance tent appearing to be a much more spacious area in the last couple of years.

It’s unlikely that dance music at Glasto will disappear completely, but efestivals.co.uk claims that all aspects of the festival are under review.

In related news, Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis is to receive an honourary Doctor of Arts degree today, from the University of Bath.

Sadly I'd say that swapping the two seems to make sense at the minute. I say 'sadly' because personally, I'd be spending a lot of time in the Peel tent and very little in the dance tent, but I like that Glasto caters for everyone.

Peel Stage to oust Glasto Dance Tent?

good dance music should always have its place somewhere, though maybe getting rid of the dance tent is a good idea. writing off dance is a little far to go though, i'm no dance-head, far from it in fact, but i still enjoy listening to a cracking dance tune when i hear it, some chems stuff is brilliant in fact.
so not all dance music is crap, especially if you're counting people like aphex twin, squarepusher et all.

good dance music has its place.

but i think new "proper" music should take priority ...

Some dance music is great, if by dance you mean any electronic type stuff, just because a lot of recent stuff is remixes of awful tv theme tunes or something, doesnt mean it is all bad.

Peel Stage to oust Glasto Dance Tent?

do your research. at the moment there is a fucking shedload of excellent 'dance' music about. people who say dance is dead are generally pretty clueless and are obviously not looking in the right places or delving deep enough.

Even on the commercial side of things, there's still top stuff out there - the new Chemical Brothers single is great, the Mylo album's good for anyone missing Royksopp. I'm not a dance expert exactly so this is just scratching the surface - I know there's stuff out there.

These things are cyclical though - wait for someone to pronounce that rock's dead again. It'll happen. And they will be wrong.

The new bands tent should be bigger, but there should still be a dance tent at Glastonbury - still plenty of good stuff around.

Peel Stage to oust Glasto Dance Tent?

'eck, the only reason why the dance tent seems reduntant is because they put so many dance acts on the main stages this year

It's not like Glasto would be doing away with dance music completely - I'm assuming they'll still have The Glade?
