Oh, and a text-in show where people talk to a cow, and half of the people say they'll eat the cow if they don't play *insert crap band name here* despite it not being a request show!
Like pointless chart countdowns and unfunny cartoons? Well they've got those too!
How are you fixed for the 500th repeat of Jackass?
I'd carry on but you get the point... Still, 120 minutes is pretty good.
Actually yes, come to think of it, MTV2 is actually getting a lot worse. I swear those cartoons are aimed towards 14 year old kids who find it funny to write "RANDOM" words/phrases, such as "I like butter because dairy products talk to me at night". Hahaha, RANDOM - YES!! Saying random things to random people at random times is very very silly, but more importantly, FUNNY! And very clever too!
Sorry, what the hell was this thread about again...?
Oh yeah. Those cartoons really are dreadful. And Jackass is about as funny as....actually, it doesn't even have an ounce of comedy in it. It's plain sad to watch grown men acting stupid for a living....and getting paid shit-loads for doing it. Quite depressing, actually.
And that text-in show is purely for the 14 year olds as described above. "I'll milk you/squeeze your udders/eat your soul if you don't play Inme/Lostprophets/[insert shitty emo band here].
Come on MTV2 could have less shitty shows but it is the best thing we've got.
If it wasn't for MTV2 we wouldn't get to see video's by artists such as Bloc Party, RJD2, Biffy Clyro, TV on the Radio, Pink Grease, The Duke Spirit etc.
The NME chart may be a pointless rundown but if you want to see one of the ten most popular video's, most of which are usually pretty good, then you watch MTV2 at 7pm. It's nice to be able to switch on and see your favourite video.
mtv2 has been lame for 2 years.
it used to be good when it was just 24/7 music. now its just 24/7 crappy shows (cribs, jackass, beavis+butthead YAY!!) + adverts, with maybe a couple of hours of music.
jackass was funny say in 2000 when it first started but mtv mustve have shown every single episode at least 100 times.
i can barely name any band i see on mtv2 anymore when i flick over, (due to adverts being on the show im watcing) mostly its just story of the year and other such similar sounding nu-metal bands (they play story of the year, yet not busted, how do they figure?). occassionally theres a good song on.
as for the text show i occasionally flick onto that and the channel mut be laughing all the way to the bank. it costs like £1.50 a message, and theres people texting shit (like requests and 'cow ill eat you if you dont play...') for the whole 2 hours (?)).
but what really annoys me now is the adverts. so i can no longer flick over and be guaranteed that a song is on there.
ahha rant over :).
I've only texted in twice, once to check my fone was working! It just needs to be more 'alternative' and play some invigorating and challengin stuff in the daytime, cut the crap stuff (the cartoons) and keep it advert-free. And do an Olds Cool bit like The Amp.
I know its a bit crap, but what else are u going to watch when u get in from school? Changing Rooms on UK Style?
The text show should be destroyed, I've texted into it a few times, before they made it cost a shit load and it was actually people talking about music rather than death threats to play busted, and I was watching it the other day and someone sent one in saying "Woo go green day some band is FINALLY standing up to george bush" followed by several texts in agreement. These people are so fucking dumb!! Helloooo! NOFX made a bloody album called "The War On Errorism" but wait, that wasn't standing up to bush at all, just like the album "Rock Against Bush" wasn't!!!
I now declare this rant over.
You were expecting people who take MTV's word as gospel to have taste? Oh dear, oh dear...
Also I believe Green Day COVERED a Clash song (and if we were being really pedantic we could say covering a Buddy Holly song), they didn't rip it off. Slight difference.
hmmmmmmmmmmm...MTV2 needs to filter out the shite.there is some good stuff played, but mostly, yeah.shite.and the fact they seem to play the same video twice within an hour doesn't help their case.
solution?
i flip over to VH2 or the Amp. granted, stupid ringtone adds, but generally play good stuff.
x
I've always looked at Green Day as NoFx's attention deprived little brother band.
Quite frankly I'm tried of hearing people defend them all the time, 90% of the people either say "they're a good band if you just listen to (insert one cd name, normally Dookie)" Or it's people who've only heard American Idiot.
They have a decent song or two, but they're just not to my liking.
yeh he's got a new band starting up with Jack who played drums in Mclusky. Bassist John now does a solo thing, which I believe is called Shooting At Unarmed Men, and colly_kunoichi off these forums was saying he's started a folk night somewhere here in Cardiff.
Mclusky Do Dallas is a better album, a bit more focused and more pop. There's some ace tracks on The Difference... tho, That Man Will Not Hang especially. One of the best live bands I ever saw as well.
I suppose I haven't really listened to it properly, i've only 'heard' it while on the go, and we all know now that this isn't the proper way to absorb music.
I think tomorrow has to be 'sitting-in-a-room-listening-to-mcluskey-and-stroking-my-chin' day. I'll report back with my findings.
I'll probably end up putting The Polyphonic Spree on or something. So bad, but yet so rewarding :-(
