Hot on the heels (and mightily expensive ones they are, too) of the news that Wayne Rooney's girlfriend fancies a crack at the pop music game, word is that Amanda Holden is also planning an assault on the charts, and is even going to delay her marriage to concentrate upon it.

Holden, former wife of chicken-loving Les Dennis, is currently engaged to music producer Chris Hughes, which can't hurt her chances. A spokesperson told the press: "Amanda has been approached by a couple of record companies since the show (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and wants to try and follow that up."

DiScuss: Is it too easy for celebrities to get into the pop game? Does it trivialise the pop charts even further? Did Stefan Dennis and those odd-looking twins from Neighbours teach us nothing? Can you remember a decent record from such a celeb?

handy andy. also, tag missing.

Worse than any of those you've mentioned including Stefan Dennis:

Maureen from Driving School
Handy Andy
Peter Ebdon (yes, really)
Waddle and Hoddle
William Shatner
Samantha Fox
Michelle Collins
Nichola from Big Brother 1
Bubble and Dean from Big Brother 2

etc, etc.

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

Peter Ebdon?
Brilliant...

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

Yep, when he got to the Embassy final in 1996 he recorded a version of David Cassidy's 'I'm a Clown'. There aren't many references to it on Google...I don't think it charted....

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

I remember that!! It was ace! Also, Andy Cole had a single as well that was predictably shit.

I won't however, hear a word against Hoddle & Waddle. Diamond Lights is fucking classic!

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

No, it's not a classic. It's bloody terrible.

I really hope Trinny and Susannah don't release anything. That'd just be BAD.

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

You star!!!!!

Also missing out are Mr Blobby and Roland Rat... oh, and Zig & Zag.

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

add Gazza to that list.

Didn't Harold Bishop do a Christmas single once?

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

Hey, Leave Shatner out of this!

He's made one of the most moving, eclectic and groovy records of the year! I don't see La Holden duetting with Henry rollins, Joe Jackson and Amy Mann, or performing a Haiku about love to strains of Lemon Jelly on her record somehow... ;-)

*Shudder*

Holden harbours pop aspirations

It's just a shame when there are so many talented musicians out there doing stuff but not getting deals/distribution/management when people put money/effort into celeb flash in the pans.

Amanda Holden is a publicity seeking fool. My dad and some of his colleagues from CLS were doing a music workshop project at Great Ormond Street and Amanda Holden turned up, hyperactive publicist in tow, to have her photo taken with various sick children before disappearing again. Fortunately some justice was done as they appropriated her to play the part of an evil frog in the story they were telling when she arrived.

I once met Bill Maynard , AKA Greengrass, AKA Selwyn Froggat... cos he did a single about Stock Car racing and my uncle was a driver...
I was about 12 and so it was a long long time ago!
But I still remember all the words

Theres crowds and noise
and fumes and fuss
and every meeting is a must
Stock Car racing is magic...

Genius!

you all seem to be forgetting nadia's single, which is a crime against humanity.
"chicken-loving Les Dennis" am i missing something here?

Re: Holden harbours pop aspirations

cELEB bIG bRO... He had a thing about the chickens.

/useless knowledge moment

Holden harbours pop aspirations

how can anything trivialise the charts further?
it's only twelve-year-olds and younger who care
and that's as trivial as you get

Holden harbours pop aspirations

This sort of shit makes me sick! re-open Auschvitz for these people... and people who have bought their records. Or hold a massive gig like a super cool Smash Hits Party... and GAS THE PLACE!

MWA AH HA HA AH AHA AH AHHAH !

My vote goes with "who cares?", one more record to avoid hearing on Radio 1? Big deal! Anyway, she's quite hot... Just think of the music videos. Ahem. It's important to distinguish her forthcoming 'music 'as a product, rather than actual music, and it's not going to stop any two-bit indie band from getting the record deal they 'so quite clearly deserve'. The point is, that any shitty celebrity wannabe is going to make more money for the record companies on a couple of singles or an album than say Aereogramme (who I think are great) will in their entire career. Yes it's a shame that all this celeb-pop nonsense is confused with something worthwhile, but whilst there are people who enjoy it (and there are plenty of them), the only people that this kind of thing will actually hurt are the people that choose to be offended by it.

Oh, and by the way, William Shatner's records are magic, and you know it. Have you *heard* his version of 'Mr Tambourine Man'? He screams. Genius.
