I have just been reading all the posts on the unsavoury marketing methods emloyed by Universal for Busted. McFly etc...
Now The Libertines... you should all feel sorry for the tortured poet junky one is a marketing model as old as music... It could almost make you feel sorry for the tortured, poet junky!

I do feel for Pete and I really wish people around him would do what they can to help him, rather than living vicariously through him as many seem to do.

That's 50% of the problem. The other 50% of the problem is him and he really needs to stop blaming others. There are others to be blamed in this too, but he's choosing all the wrong ones.

I agree, fair enough Pete should be applauded for wanting to address his addiction. However is being in Babysambles and surrounding himself with others in the London band scene, most of them drugs users themselves in one form or another, really the best way of overcoming it? It would take a complete lifestyle change to tackle such severe addictions, something I doubt he'd be able to do.

It would be better if Paxman grilled him live on air I think.

There are hundreds of junkie musicians out there, and there's nothing especially sad about PD compared with anyone else who's gone down that road. It's a losers life, and I think sticking him on national TV does nothing but glamorise it, by simple virtue of BEING on TV.... Hey kids... jack up and you'll get on TV... Keith Richards or Kurt Cobain or Lee Mavers or Lou Reed were never paraded like this... and the BBC are just trying to appear 'cool'... Giving press exposure of any kind to unrepentant junkies is just plain bad, in just the same way as giving press coverage to artists who promote homophobia, or violence... would Sizzla get on Newsnight? Don't anyone tell me it's all for Pete... as long as he's getting press and publicity he's going to carry on doing exactly the same thing.

This is now very, very boring. I'm sure there's a lovely documentary about WWII we could all be watching on UKTV History instead...

He was scagged up to the eyeballs, and Kirsty Wark was gentle to him but I found the whole thing terribly sad, and wondered why Newsnight were interested... was it some kind of 'don't do drugs, kids, or you'll end up like this' parade?. The thing is, it's all very well watching junkies when they've had their fix, being spaced out and dreamy... the cat full of their psychological cream, maybe it could seem quite romantic??? Until you get to see Mr Hyde emerge from Jekyll when the juice starts to fade out and the cold turkey starts. Are we so fuckin fixated on reality TV that every little bit of voyeurism must be sated?

I don't know much about this guys music....but I heard fuck forever.........and It got my interest.......up here in heaven.........cause we know........a happy ending is what makes you tow the line.......and it sucks........as an angel I feel domesticaly abused by god........he always dangles eternity in our faces....and to be honest it aint really paradise anyway..........quite boring really........i'm like a fifties houswife in heaven....i clean ..........i cook.........and all i get to do is adore all day long.........and the promise that i'll be looked after.............well it just aint good enough.......i like pete
