The list of electronica duo Client's associations reads like a who's who of pop. DiS could kill a few sentences by listing them... but let's not. 'Pornography' is more than capable of filling the space. A pounding, illusively sexual ode to an obsessive relationship, its main focus is the vocal chemistry between Sarah Blackwood and guest vocalist Carl Barat; her prim, exquisitely enunciated Northern vocals sashay through 'Pornography' with icy detachment as the ex-Libertine's insalubrious drawl slinks around her ankles. The result is pure electricity, and virulently catchy.

Inevitably, with the Libertines connection, the song's been floating around the internet and enrapturing fans for a while. For this writer, 'Pornography' rises above anything produced by the Libertines; if this is the kind of thing that comes of them disbanding, Albion had better just manage without them.

Client - Pornography

Saw these in Clwb Ifor a few months ago - bloody awful. Sarah was trying her hardest to be sexy and domineering (black leather gloves, riding crop etc), but it was just embarassing. Even more embarassing than Dubstar, in fact

Re: Client - Pornography

I used to fancy her.
Cos she got drunk a lot and swore.
Nice gal.

Client - Pornography

OOH I like the sound of that

[goes to hunt cheeky copy on net....]

Client - Pornography

Dubstar. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

MTV2 showed a video of theirs about a month back. Oh how I'd forgotten how tragic they were.

Re: Client - Pornography

The band Dubstar always seem to conjoure up irrelevant memories of Beats International's hit 'Dub be Good to me'

CHOON!

Client - Pornography

my god but this is awful. just terrible. the lyrics make me cringe. 'it's you and me, monogamy, just you and me, pornography'. carl barat adds nothing. except of course he makes it worse. i had a certain amount of respect for client before this, but now....

there are dark forces at work here, mark my word.

Re: Client - Pornography

the singing is a little...well, out of tune... and I agree about how awful the lyrics are

Client - Pornography

Not wishing to be the fly in the ointment yet again, but I liked Dubstar. They were terrible live, mind.

Re: Client - Pornography

'I was making myself the usual cup of tea when the doorbell strangely rang'

Lyrical genius!

Re: Client - Pornography

that was a cover version, bizarrely. of an obscure song by a band called 'brick supply', fact fans. but in itself that's a mark of a good band - being able to take a song that really isn't an obvious cover version and do good things with it. they were good, dubstar, but sadly they only had one album in them.

Re: Client - Pornography

i was neither a fan nor a detractor. they were just... there.

xxx

Client - Pornography

this is shit

Client - Pornography

dubstar were one of the most pointless bands that ever existed. couldn't even flog the cds down music and video exchange.

Client - Pornography

saw them last night at the barfly - they were amazing.

Client - Pornography

really like the song but in no way does it surpass most of what the libertines have produced.

Client - Pornography

I quite like this songs actually. Didn't the first time, but it's definately a grower.

Client - Pornography

I've seen this band live and quite frankly they sounded like they were playing the same song for half an hour. She has about as much stage presence as Pete Libertine smacked out of his eyeballs. The only good thing about them were their support "The soho dolls", who are definitely worth a listen.

Client - Pornography

pete libertine even smacked out is as sexy as fxxx.

Re: Client - Pornography

i thought it was carl singing on this...much prefer to libs usual stuff.

Client - Pornography

I bought this isngle on the strength of this review. Unfortunateu the write seems to know cock all about good pop. This record is fucking awful, dreay shite. The 'perfomers' don't even sound interested: Barat sounds like he's reading yellow pages. The music is even worse, sounds like a demo tune on a cheap keyboard.

Gen Williams, you owe me 99p!
