Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Artists: Bloc Party
Tickets for Bloc Party's much-hyped Camden Barfly gig have sold out within three minutes.

The gig takes place on 16th February, and will see support from Neils Children and Battle.

It follows the band selling out their headline date at the London Kentish Town Forum in a day. The gig went onsale at Seetickets just before 10am, and tickets were gone in a matter of minutes; many punters will have bought in bulk - expect to see a rash of horribly priced tickets on Ebay in the coming weeks.

DiScuss: Did you get tickets? If not, how many of your lesser-loved relatives are you planning on trading for tickets? Would you rather go and see Mastodon that night instead anyway?

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

It's a right bugger. I'm up early and everything and still no ticket.
(p.s Gen, pop onto the Span board once in a while!)

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Fuck me! All this hype could come back and bite them in the ass I reckon....too much too soon maybe, methinks. Hope I'm wrong though as this band have really grown on me.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

it is weird, the way they've accelerated like this! for now it's great they're getting the attention, but i do hope it doesn't backfire on them. they seem like they've got both eyes fixed on the future though, they don't seem like ones to rest on their laurels.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

They certainly seem like a hard working band...but I think they should hold a bit of themselves back, otherwise, as Prole says, they will be a fad band and get knocked of their throne as quickly as they were placed on it.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

The "horribly priced tickets on Ebay" are already there.

Oh joy.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

but predictable.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

8 tickets. That guy has bought about 1 in 15 of those available. What a scumbag.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

That URL now links to Girls Aloud tickets being sold by the same bloke. How very random. And looking at all of his auctions, the Bloc Party tickets have gone. Did he sell all 8?

The annoying thing is... I know enough about music that I could easily... EASILY... buy the tickets I wanted at the right time and then sell them on. And I could really do with the money. But I'd never do it.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

I remember when Ultrasound etc were in exactly the same situation at the same time of the year (actually insert any band over the last 10 years) - its just people being 'faddy' - half the audience will be thinking "Now I'm meant to be really into this aren't I?", whilst not having a clue why this band are meant to be so good. Which they aren't

I love hype and people's attitude post-hype - its like a secret gay/drug/crime past once the bubble bursts!

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Aw. Ultrasound were great. But the album they finally got round to releasing was a bit long-winded.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

yeah it was a shame which happened to them - they were allowed to be oldish and not look like Busted but then they shot themselves in the foot by leaving it too long and being slighty too much indulgent - shame - Best Wishes is an ace song

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Best Wishes was great, as was I'll Show You Mine... not putting either on the album was a bit dumb of them.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

true - and production was dodgy on the album and by mid 99 it was all a bit too late - someone gave me a demo of songs after the split when it was just Tiny and some old mates -really quite dispiriting and such a waste of a good band

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Oh how smug I feel. They've chosen to play the Fez Club in Reading and seeing as how the majority of my home town's population are musically retarded, I was able to get tickets more than a week after they went on sale. Sometimes it pays to live in a town with no live music scene...

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

The Reading Fez is sold out too. Reading's music scene has drastically improved in the last year or so...

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Yeah it's sold out but it took a bloody age (well, at least in comparison to this gig). Granted the Reading scene has improved (I mean we got Modest Mouse down the Fez too) recently but it still sucks. When you play in a band and gig round Reading it really hits home how little interest there is in anything other than generic emo and a select group of bands who seem convinced that they "know loads of industry insiders" and are receiving "significant major label interest".

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Im not sure thats fair, there is a lot going on (albeit alot of generic emo etc) . Alot of the good stuff happens at the RSAC. Bloc Party played there twice last year for example. There are some very good bands too, outside of the emo/rubbish metal thing.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Having escaped from the hole of music death that is Reading and been part of the rather small music scene there (which was, in parts, incredibly cliquey) I can concur.

The RSAC was just down the road from where I used to live, but they weren't the best at publicising their gigs. In fact, unless you walked by the place or happened to know one of the organisers, you'd have had no idea most of the time. And one of my friends went out with the organiser, who was a right cliquey bastard as well.

Ah, the beauty of the Fez Club. About 10 people at the front of the stage nodding their heads and 100 Emo/metal kids from the Forbury confused as they can't headbang to it.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

A few I guess...we've played with a couple who've been good but the majority are either shite emo/metal or part of the Berkshire Live/ Josaka clique. Do I take it you're local to the lovely town of Reading?

The RSAC is a venue we're yet to play actually...we've considered it but were told the sound sucks. May have to re-consider...

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Wow, selling out the forum in a day is pretty impressive. The NME hype has paid off for them, at least in the short run

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

if you saw them on the Interpol tour then really dont waste your money or indulge yrself in disappointment

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Hahahaha, so many clamouring for tickets, I'm so glad I saw them on the October, supported by New Rhodes, they were mental then, and I'm going to conform to the horrible "I'm indie, I saw them before you'd heard of them" stereotype. Woohoo! Mmm, smug.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

what are new rhodes up to at the moment? i've not seen them since joyfest last summer, i really enjoyed them.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Saw them on the April Tour in the Birmingham Bar Academy. Me and 50 others.

>smug<

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

I'll join in...
I saw them in march at the northampton soundhaus with the departure and komakino.

>smugger<
(but not really, i want someone to come and say they saw them when they were union)

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

haha! well i did, but i'll shush. [they're better now anyway. i didn't like them when they were union. they got very much better, very quickly. it's not one of those stupid "oh they were SO much better before people liked them" things.]

xxx

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

i saw them once as union (russell taught one of my friends how to play guitar) and they played at my club night at Buffalo Bar shortly after becoming 'Bloc Party'. I rule!

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

I saw the first ever "Union" show at the Verge.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Yeah but i've known blocparty for over two years,
so & it's got nothing to dop with 'indie-blahblah-shit'
it's just simply about giving small bands a chance.
I didn't have to wait for NME or MTV or anything..
it just happened and they are really nice guys too,
i'm not having a go but loadsa ppl knew them before last october so you shouldn't be too smug!

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

I missed out and am stupidly annoyed by it

for gigs like that I really am beginning to think tickets should be limited to two per person

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Brusma - They've been going round for ages, I'm sure lots of people have already seen then.

I know I saw them around this time last year supporting a band called Span, and I think Miss Gen Williams was at that gig too. Nonetheless, their rise and rise has been very impressive.

More dates in April though apparently, including 2 nights at the Astoria.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

i was! i'd forgotten about that.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

fucking touts!

i saw this band at reading, they were pretty cool.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

I reckon Bloc Party could easily headline Astoria and it would sell out, no doubt what so ever.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

they'll probably be doing Alexandra Palace by this time next year.

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

I'll choose to ignore the "Bloc party are the new Razorlight" implication there...

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

or worse, "Bloc party are the new Kasabian"

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

I interviewed Matt back in October for my student rag and they wouldn't give me inches to print it. Silly mongs.
I had an anecdote about penguins and everything.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Reading has the odd sparkling gem of a gig - like when Bloc Party played the Rising Sun Institute (capacity 100?)
How glorious that gig was....

I assume the Alexandra Palace is a jibe because the very marvelous Bloc Party are supporting Razorlight - and good luck to em.
Bloc Party have their heads screwed on rather better than Ultrasound (who had some good bits but on the whole were painfully overrated).

Good luck to Bloc Party - a band willing to try something new - I hope they go far!

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Yes. They played twice- once in October03, then Feb04. Capacity is (legally) 60.

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

right, Denial Records (my ex and his mates label) were the first to sign Bloc Party, got them in the studio, recorded their first single. never got released cos some other company who werent 1st year uni students signed them! so anyway Denial had a date to put them on last autumn, but then they started getting proper big, and their tour of america was extended. meaning Denial didnt get their date, but have 100% been promised a show sometime during or around the tour thats coming up. its a bit hush hush, but is likely to be the smallest gig for the rest of their career... im well excited!

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

That would be James, i gather.
When i first got my livejournal, i added blocparty to my intrests & he was one of 4 cother people who knew them too. Not a stalker type.Small world.(!)

Re: Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Aw! Denial! In High Wycombe! Bless 'em! Exclamation mark!

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

Got 4 tickets at 0958, thought about the whole e-bay thing but I know hpw much it annoys me when I have to pay over the odds, saying that I've never usally this moral.
Should be goo though

Bloc Party sells out in minutes

i dont think they will be as big as people expect. they will never get as big as Oasis, coldplay... or even Doves.

pity as they are a band the music industry needs to get us out of this boy band/pop idol monotony crap.

will the public be with us? i doubt it
