It's not always the originality aspect that can make or break a band's reputation, but it can certainly go along way towards defining their future, or more to the point whether they have one.

For the last year or so Seretone have been playing the same set of songs in and around Nottingham without ever really progressing, and despite the fact that their recent self-titled album proved that they're more than just treaders of old ground (if still a long way short of being breakers of the new), their performance in the flesh doesn't really encapsulate or enthrall.

KEITH on the other hand are a delight to behold. Part of the new wave of Mancunia more by educational logistics than birthright they may be, but read that as a compliment rather than an insult. If anything, it's the overriding reason why their technodubrockinacoustic melange becomes an exercise in sincerity and dexterity, particularly during the overly radio-friendly and should-have-been-the-anthem-of-the-summer 'Back There'. It's an excuse to sing your hearts out like it's New Year's Eve, your best mate's birthday and an England-versus-Germany World Cup Final all rolled into one.

From the Doves-in-a-timewarp haze of 'You' to the steam-powered drizzle dub of 'Mona Lisa's Child', every part of KEITH's set represents an equally beguiling and thoroughly engaging chapter of their repertoire. If anything, probably the only real criticism here is that their eclectism sometimes overpowers the actual quality of the songs. But with the band still pretty much at an infant stage so far as nationwide recognition goes, time is clearly on their side.

Now watch 'em go...

Is anyone else having real trouble

getting past the name? KEITH. For fuck's sakes. KEITH. KEITH.

"I wanna be a rock n roll band, Mum, with all the funk and spunk of the Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses and, er, the Doves!"
"That's nice, dear. And what will this group be called?"
"KEITH!"
"That's nice, dear."

So is it now officially cool to stick a bowl on your head and party like it's 1989?

I

fucking

Well I'm going to! ;) I thought keith were so so...

I liked Seretone though. Like the keyboard stuff and drums. And they're dead cute!

Will def try and catch them again. Anyone know when they're in Derby?
