Following his arrest on Wednesday evening, doe-eyed smackhead Pete Doherty now faces charges of blackmail & robbery.

Doherty was arrested at a North London hotel on evening on suspicion of theft and assault. He spent the night in police custody.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said then: "Police were called to a hotel in Peters Lane, London EC1, at 6.20pm yesterday (Tuesday February 2nd) following a report of a man being assaulted. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft".

The spokesman added that a man in his 30s was taken to University College Hospital in central London with minor facial injuries but was understood to have been discharged.

According to BBC News, Doherty will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Friday (February 4th) to answer the robbery & blackmail charges.

Musician Alan Wass, 23, (nope, us neither) also of north London, will appear in court accused of the same offences.

In other Doherty related news, tabloids have suggested he's going into rehab next week. Oh and he's getting married to girlfriend model Kate Moss and they're planning to spend some time in Russia.

Good. That way we all get a break... from both of them...

But Hero... hang on, the Velvets song is called Heroin, not Heroine and it was written and published in America, so either Lou Reed can't spell (an entirely plausible explanation) or this girly, french-looking spelling of 'Heroine' is moonshine cooked up by junkies to make themselves look more chic than the squat-dwelling, vein-structure-collapsing reality...

Pfff. I'm not a massive Libertines or Babyshambles fan (quite like the first Libs record, that's about it), but this madness needs to stop. Once you become tabloid fodder it's game over. You can be provoked to within an inch of your life and any reaction sees you in court again. I'm not pretending Pete is either blameless in this, or indeed very clever, but I've had enough of all this. I really do believe that if people left him alone (and when he courts publicity himself, ignored him) that he'd have a much better chance of sorting his life out.

I thought I'd add this in because if it came from a Libertines obsessive, people would accuse them of being blinkered.

Tabloid hacks/papparazzi are dead-eyed, rat-faced scum, who'd sell their granny for a fiver, but it's part and parcel of being a pop star. I can't imagine it's easy for Pete, but at the end of the day, he makes his lving playing music and sometimes people try to take his photograph, largely because he has a very famous girlfriend. There are worse jobs in this country...

Maybe I didn't read the article in full, but I believe Pete was in on the photograph selling? 50/50 on the profits, but that Carlish fella decided not to give him anything afterwards (hence the attack).
If you ask me, the papers are giving the cash to Pete in the hope that he will go out, get more drugs, and do something stupid (or kill himself) so that they have something else to write about. Vicious circle.

ok everyone! does any of you actually know peter doherty? no? i didnt think so. i will have you know he is one of the most friendly, protective, kind men i have ever met! i havn't had the pleasure of meeting kate yet, but from what he says, she is also a lovely person with alot of love to give. everyone should leave them alone and let them get on with their lives. as i said before if you dont know someone then dont judge them, and no, reading about him in heat every week does not mean you know him.
