Punk rock tips for '05 The Explosion release their first UK single on 14th March.

'Here I Am' is released through Virgin, and precedes the band's new album, Black Tape, due for an official UK release on 28th March.

The Explosion used their Virgin advance to establish Tarantula Records, which has released records by The Bronx and The Distillers. How very punk of them.

The Boston quintet arrive in the UK in a few days, and play pretty much non-stop through 'til the end of March.

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

First QOTSA, now The Explosion...I hope this 'playing two gigs in one night thing' doesn't catch on. I bust my balls doing just one...two in one night would do my in completely. When are you meant to go get pizza, for chrissakes?

Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

I thought this was about the blues explosion.
I'm sure they get that a lot....

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

I thought it might have been Explosions in the sky doing some kinda tour *sigh* Oh well.

Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

They're taking most of this year off :( Which is fair enough considering they toured pretty much relentlessly last year.

Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

that tour last year was beautiful. everyone layed on the floor at the arts centre, i've never been to a gig before or since where they did this.

Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

Aye, I remember at the end of the brighton show (150 capacity, ho ho ho) I was shaking with my head in my hands, then i got self conscious and decided to take them out and look around... there were dudes on there knees others people looking like i did, two people holding each other, squeezing the life out. It was INTENSE.

They look a right bunch of numpties.

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

I thought it was about North Korea kicking off.

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

i dont think the explosion are that good, unoriginal. i may get into them yet, but mike daviesp lays them every week and they havent 'grabbed' me yet.

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

I wonder if their manager has learnt the names of any Sex Pistols songs yet?

Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

cause you are punk as fuck. idiot

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

Second from the left - Alan Smith, girlish Manchester Utd striker
They look like a crap boyband

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

Punk rock on virgin? Yeah right.

Re: The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

I hope that was sarcastic.

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

'Black Tape' is a bloody terrible album. Such a disappointment from the band that released 'Flash Flash Flash' and 'Sick Of Modern Art'.

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

Spot on sean....the explosion used to have a little credibility...but 'Black Tape'...gaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's not tip top.

The Explosion, um, EXPLODE, all over 2005...

I thought The Explosion used to be great. Nothing new, but they were energetic...just listen to (the original) 'No Revolution' or 'Signature', and they're great rock songs, but 'Black Tape' is just overproduced gash. Every little edge has been snipped off so Virgin can market them. Tragic.
