1. Greetings Mr. Mason, it's splendid to make your acquaintance.

and you. care for a cup of tea?

2. 2004 ended with yourself graduating to a higher echelon of the public eye. How excited are you for 2005?

plenty.

3. Do you feel pressured by the high praise you are levelled with from many journalistic corners?

no

4. DiS would love to know more about working with Conor Oberst's Team Love label in the US. How did it come about? Is he interesting to work with?

we became familiar with each other's music through mutual friends. we started working together after he put me up for a few weeks while I was exploring new york city.

5. Having toured with luminaries such as The Greatful Dead, Death Cab for Cutie and Ben Kweller (where DiS caught you first), what is it like to be heading your own shows?

like bringing an accountant to a campfire singalong.

6. What's a Willy Mason tour like? I mean are we talking groupies & excess or hardwork & no mess?

depends on the phase of the moon.

7. Having your brother Sam coming on the road must be strange and awesome and equal quantities. What is it like bringing someone even younger than yourself into the world of touring?

like trying to tame Ferdinand the bull

8. Your recording ethic is one of live recording and as few takes as possible, do you find this to be restraining or liberating? Do you find the live sound essential to your style of music?

do you walk your feet or do your feet walk you?

9. Tell us a secret.

close your eyes and listen. i'll tell you everything.

10. Tell us about a band we haven't heard of.

The Unbusted is the 3 piece garage rock group you always wish existed (except they practiced in a retirement home instead of the garage).

11. Did you know that Joni Mitchell was addicted to Southern Comfort? What's your vice of choice?

theres no such thing as vice. only shame and a mute instinct.

12. DiS is (metaphorically) dying. Tell me about that record I need to hear before I hit the grave.

John Lee Hooker will settle all your humanly matters before the deed is done if you listed to Alone. "you don't take nothin into this world, and you don't take nothin away. people gotta wake up."

13. Is all about luck? Or love?

Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot.

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

This interview was just a fax wasn't it? Admit it. We already know anyway.

I love his music, but how pretentious was that?

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

I appeal to audiences everywhere to throw things at this man.

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

Haha. This makes him seem cooler to me.

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

Ok so he may not be a man of many words but its pretty obvious that he lets his music do the talking?

Re: Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

I was unconsciously breaking out in a sweat as i read this Col. I so hope it was by email and not face-to-face, but if you were in the same room, did he notice you leave?

Re: Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

ahem. cretin. sounds like praise has gone to his head.

either that or all the drugs.

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

So he didnt say much..it's not like he absolutely has to. I thought that was a great interview!

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

Me and my friend met him in Glasgow on monday a couple of hours before the gig (we were locating the venue before dinner) and he that interview sounds just like him. He was kinda non-plussed and didn't really want to say much... so we let him get away.
Seemed like a really nice guy though, and he did mention us on stage later with "Hey, these guys came all the way from Aberdeen by the way" as my friend was pestering him for "Still A Fly"
Great gig, already bought my tickets for Edinburgh (he didn't have his bro with him in Glasgow, he will in Edinburgh I think)

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

the guy was plainly interviewed by e-mail, what do you expect?
the last three DiS interviews i've read had virtually identical questions. here, they weren't even typed properly.

Why you shouldn't answer emails when cained

Smacks of someone trying to exude intelligence and cool but really just speaking a load of crap.

The best words in this interview were those of John Lee Hooker, which are not pretentious and are more insightful than most artists will ever be.

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

Willy Mason is incredibly talented, but from that he seems a bit pretentious.

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

willy mason is just a damn nice kid. nothing more, nothing less.

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

Willy really is one of the nicest guys around on the occasions I have met him. He comes across as a being totally genuine good bloke. You couldnt come across a more down to earth, talented musician.

The interview is crap! But what I would say its this: If you aint got the album, go get it now!! Then you will really see what this guy is all about!!

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

I think young Willy was trying to appear, deep, poetic and interesting....Shame really

Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

I don't know much about this young man, but he mentioned ferdinand the bull and that makes me so happy! I love ferdinand the bull! Aw *goes home to re-read it*

Re: Willy Mason - "Love is the bossman. Luck pulls his chariot. "

what a cunt. the interviewer is asking him stuff, in hopes of detailed, interesting answers. who the hell does he think he is, answering like he is royalty.
