Boston-based masters of crushing metalcore Converge have announced that their new LP is to be titled No Heroes. It will be released through Epitaph on October 23.

The four-piece have been in the business for some fifteen years, but if the blurb is to be believed - and why would these label and PR people lie to us? - No Heroes doesn't compromise on intensity at all. Indeed, it's described to us as "quite possibly their most cerebral and ferocious album to date".

Wow?

The follow-up to 2004's You Fail Me was produced by the band's guitarist Kurt Ballou at his God City Studios. Vocalist Jacob Bannon says of the new album:

“We don’t try to outdo ourselves each time in terms of making a heavy, ridiculous record, but this time we feel like we kind of did. We’ve never been a band who’s just going through the motions and I think that shows on this record.

“What we do is very different than what’s happening in the mainstream. I think we’re a weird amalgamation of stuff that doesn’t really exist anymore that’s somewhere between the thrash world, the hardcore world, the punk world and the alt-rock world. We just went and did our thing on this record rather than try to make a name for ourselves or dilute our approach.”

I, for one, just had an accident in my pants. Was it related to this article? Maybe...

..

i am very excited.

you fail me.....

.... was pap and was absolutely bang on whats in the mainstream.

maybe the next one will be as good as jane doe or when forever comes crashing.

..

yeah, just like whats in the mainstream. all those big melodic choruses and 2 step breakdowns.
y'what now??

i meant....

... the mainstream of metalcore. converge are about as subversive musically as abba now that every town has 5 bands who've ripped them off.

but surely

that makes the bands that ripped them off as subversive as abba, and not converge themselves?

a band at the forefront of a genre makes a more accessible record at a time when said genre is soaring in credibility and popularity.
T'aint their fault theres a million "you fail me" clones doing the rounds.

personally, I thought it wasn't a bad record, just not the record I hoped it would be. They've made great things before, and I don't doubt that they will do it again. Here's hoping...

Jane Doe

JD is still to this day one of the best albums I own. You Fail Me just didn't seem to have the same crushing, brutality that JD had. I hope this latest LP will be more JD and less YFM.

.

I still think You Fail Me is underrated quite a lot, if your in the right modd for that album then its just as vicious as Jane Doe.
Jane Doe however is fucking brilliant.

Cant wait for this record, in fact Mr Diver i think i may have just joined you in having a little accident in my pants. Maybe theres a bug going round?

First side of You Fail Me

is great, drops off pretty badly on the second side though. Its a terrible title for the album though...pretty naff. Really want this to be amazing, they're still an amazing band despite the imitators. But then everyone accuses them of ripping off starkweather and born against, so who knows?

.

Somebody will always accuse a band of ripping off somebody else unless they are truly 100% unique, thats the way the world works.

Thats my point

Best just to enjoy it if you enjoy it and ignore the whole 'band X was doing this way before band Y were even around' thing.

Still, worried this album might blow.

i think you fail me is underrated

it is pure vitriol. yeah it's not as good as jane doe, but they still beat all their imitators over the head ragged, rusty metallic stick :D

You Fail Me

Was i think their "punk rock" record, whereas as jane doe was pretty much art.

if you could say converge were a singles band, then yes, you fail me had the singles, nothing more rock and roll than eagles become vultures...except perhaps homewrecker

...

COME ONNNNNNN!
YFM has some awesome songs on it, and I think I like it a lot more now than when it came out when I completly dismissed it.
They're a band that to me are at the very forefront of their genre and their ambission. Jane Doe is probably like one of my top ten albums, ever.

I really like

You Fail Me. Eagles Become Vultures....ah those drums, sheer brilliance. Also, Last Light, Black Cloud and Heartless were pretty brutal tracks.

I'm currently listening to the new one

It's very, very brutal. Delightful. Although much of it is washing over me as I'm drunk. I'm just awaiting the big 10 minute track they've promised.

at first

i wasn't sure about the single guitar but by track 3 on YFM i think it really clicked. i'm really interested in what they do with this album, especially since the last album found them sorta reassessing their sound and their output.
i can't find it on line so far :(

Anyone who thinks...

...the title track from YFM isn't brutal must be made out of concrete! It's fucking merciless.

?

how is it?

oops

that was for the guy that has heard no heroes allready
