Disco-tastic New Yorkers Scissor Sisters have picked up three awards at this year's Brits.

They bagged International Album, International Breakthrough Act and International Group which must have pissed off Bono no end. Everyone's favourite Elton John impersonators performed 'Take Your Mama' live at the ceremony. Frontman Jake Shears (pictured) was dressed up like a dungaree-wearing chicken. We shit you not.

Those picking up a pair each were Franz Ferdinand who won British Rock Act and British Group, which they dedicated to John Peel; Keane bagged British Album and British Breakthrough Act; and Joss Stone scored British Female Solo Artist and British Urban Act.

Robbie Williams' soppy ballad Angels scored the Brits 25 Best Song Award seeing off Kate Bush & Joy Division among others. He was presented with his award by Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams, dressed as his former Take That colleagues Gary Barlow and Howard Donald, leading him to quip he was "always the talented man of the band". The 'Robster' also performed the winning song live as a duet with double winning Joss Stone. This is the 15th Brit Williams has won: he's now got 11 as a solo artist and four with Take That. He probably took Joss Stone home too.

Meanwhile, The Streets' Mike Skinner, who sang 'Dry Your Eyes' at the ceremony, failed to pick up his British Male Solo Artist Award because he was in the bog, leaving a bemused band mate to give the acceptance speech. Seriously.

We don't know if Pete Doherty turned up or not. He should have been tucked up at home in bed by 10pm 'cos that's when his curfew kicks in. Plus, we wouldn't have wanted him to steal the limelight from Robbie Williams. Alledgedly.

Anyway, here's those Brit Awards winners - and losers - in full:

DiS-cuss: Did Scissor Sisters deserve to win three? Is Joss Stone really 'urban'? Are 'commerical radio listeners' really that stupid? Does anyone give a shit anyway?

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

scissor sisters deserve none, joss stone is wank, not urban, commercial radio listeners are really stupid, and i don't give a shit at all

:)

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

i wish i'd bet on muse for best live act - so so inevitable. what a wanker i am

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

the streets best male, yet also nominated for it?
sorry, couldn't resisit the cheap-shot; i know its late.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

yer telling me. think i bit off more than i could chew here you know. should be alright now.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

angels best song of the last 25 years - fuck off.
franz ferdinand best rock act (over muse!) - also fuck off.
i like franz i really do, but theyre not a better rock act than muse.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Should we really take an award ceremony seriously that gives Robbie Williams the best song of the last 25 years? So him doing Angels is suddenly better than Oasis' 'Wonderwall', Coldplay's 'Yellow', Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', The Clash's 'London Calling', 'That's Entertainment' by The Jam, or 'Heroes' by David Bowie? And hell, that's only going through the songs that the Brits nominated. I could go to town on all the ones they missed out.

Scissor Sisters can fuck right off. I have absolutley no time for a pop group who sound like a fusion of bad Elton John pop, and the theme tunes to 'Thomas the Tank Engine' and 'Grange Hill'. They're going to be headlinging V?! So now all of a sudden they're at the same level as The Strokes, Muse and The Pixies. Bloody hell, I'd rather see Dido than the Scissor Sisters!!

Everything was so predictable, and I'm too emotionally drained to correct every wrong with the Brits.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

*yawn*

Hi, we're the record industry and we like to play it safe by only rewarding those artists who already have huge marketing budgets.

And to all those listeners/viewers who voted, shame on you for playing along.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Don't think you'll find many of them here. Except perhaps Chelsea. And Mcflymad. Hold on, were they the same person? Fuck it, they're probably not even real anyway...

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

mcfly are so not better than girls aloud!

but good on the scissors, best "pop" pop band in ages.

think most of you have the wrong perception of the brits, it doesnt really pretend to be anything other than a celebration of commercial success. i would imagine a quick poll across the country would probably conclude that robbie is better than joy division, he certainly sold more records. still a fucking tosspot, like.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Okay, anything by Robbie Williams beating out Kate Bush AND Joy Division is disgusting! And, to change the subject, but not totally, as I'll still show disdain: I love the Scissor Sisters, BUT every freakin' body knows that U2 has been the world's favorite band for the past 20 years, like it or not. I mean, the Scissor Sisters just came out of nowhere a few months ago. U2 are international humanitarians and rock pioneers who were succeeding musically even when the Scissor Sisters youthful members were probably still wetting the bed!

Yeah, anyway, I do get a kick out of Jake Shears's falsetto voice and gender-bending, Freddie Mecury jumpsuits but can admit that, atleast in the US, he and his group haven't yet had a mainstream single. Jet and the Killers, on the other hand, have totally taken this country over!

Something else that baffled me is how the Streets (plural--not a singular Street) won for best male solo artist yet there was a "bandmate" to accept the award on another's behalf. Now, my friend Rikki is a huge Streets-nut and says the Streets is essentially one guy, Mike Skinner, but, I dunno, I prefer Morrissey...

And Best Brit Album was a tough category! I appreciate ALL those bands. However, about Best Brit Live Act, everyone should know that the Hives totally bring it. Why wasn't their name dropped?

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

yes but U2 havent been rock pioneers for about 20 years, and prancing around being humanitarian doesn't make up for shit ocean fm rocklite rubbish.

Jamie

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Probably something to do with being Swedish.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Forgive me, but is their some bad blood betweed the Swedes and the Brits cuz I didn't get that memo? Even if that is the case, the music and performances are what should be considered--not the band's nationality. You don't have to be under Queen Elizabeth's reign to receive a nod, as demonstrated by The Killers, who are American...

Do you atleast agree that U2 are, in a general sense, the world's (maybe not yours) favorite band? And have you heard How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb yet? It rocks! I was just telling a friend a few minutes ago about how four years doesn't seem like a long time until you consider how long we went without a U2 record! Freshman year seems like yesterday, but All That You Can't Leave Behind came out an eternity ago...

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Okay, I'm a dork for: a) replying to my own post and b) misspelling "there" (first paragraph-first sentence-fifth word), which is why I'm replying to my own comment in the first place--I don't want anyone to take any cheap shots regarding my misuse of "their."

Now, you may lay into me... Be gentle... I'm just a girl...

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

The Killers (and U2 for that matter) were nominated in International categories solely for overseas bands. The best live act award was Best British Live Act, which has no international equivalent.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Well, I'll try my darnedest to squeak out a "just kidding" (about the Hives) with my foot placed firmly in my mouth...

"Joss kittykitty."

I should have read the categories more carefully. You're right... But the Hives are, in my opinion, worth atleast the arguments I've made for them, even if my campaigning and complaining was regarding a category they, of course, couldn't qualify for.

I'll just relent now...

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

So Kerrang! readers favourite bands are:

Franz Ferdinand
Kasabian
The Libertines
Muse
Snow Patrol

ok...

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

ok, what contribution has bob geldof made to british music???? "I don't like mondays" was alright-ish but it's only ONE single!!!
If it was for Band Aid, then I have to say the song itself wasn't a great contribution to british MUSIC! and didn't Midge Ure write it anyway??

sp xx

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

...never mind him. I can't believe that fuckin' 'angels' by Robbie 'Guy Chamberlain' Williams won best song of the past 25 years

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

nah sorry, bobs award was probably the only one even half deserved.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

The Brits are fast becoming as embarrassing a joke as they were in the 1980s.
So a camp Bee Gees tribute act is the best overseas talent we've seen and heard in the UK over the past 12 months? YEAH, RIGHT.
And Joss Stone? 10/10 for the look but she sounds permanently constipated when she attempts to sing.
And The Streets best solo act! I think the words "Taking", "The", and "Piss" spring to mind here. His only contribution to anything has been to increase the wearing of Burberry caps and Hackett tops and actually get the upper end of the city High Street fashion brigade to declare it tasteful.
At least the awards for Muse, Franz, Eminem and McFly were deserved, but on the whole, it just reeks of a Sony/BMG luvvie fest.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Good on Muse!!

Didn't think the Libertines would win anything, seeing as how no one knows who the other two are, one's ill and can't go anywhere near live music for a while and the other one's in the nick...or at least going back to it.

The Streets?
All he's done is talk in a fake cockney accent about "MaccyD's".
The Chav King!

I hate the fucking show, so I didn't watch it - every single fucking year the constipated smug monkey faced Slobbie Wankerams wins some undeserved award.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

The televised event is broadcast tonight.
For the record, I dig that Will Young song.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

you fancy him you do. you're his boyfriend.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Still shan't watch it, might flick over from time to time to see Muse though.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Ahh, the Brit Awards. When they reel out the commercial radio listeners from their padded cells.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

In that photo of Jake Shears, he really looks like he's laying an egg. Or giving birth. Or something bizarre.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

What a moronic selection.
Eminen beats Tom Waits?
Robbie Williams beats Joy Division?
Completely idiotic.
It's not about music, it's about money.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

welcome to the music industry!

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

i had a look through some of the messageboards on the bbc website " what do you think of the nominations". There was some tosser on saying keane should win everything and asking "Who was Tom Waits?" as if he had been mistakenly nominated. Really, i only look to wind myself up.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Why are people so stupid? WHY? Don't they know good art from a piece of shit? Do they know the difference between good and bad? between real fucking SOUL and FIRE and plastic, heartless, manipulative emotional-pornography money grabbing MUSAK? People are fucking idiotic robots who will lap up whatever is put in front of them. No wonder the planet is going to fucking ruin. AARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHGHGHGHGAHAGHAGHAGHAGH
The Brits? THE FUCKING IDIOTIC SHITS MORE LIKE.
I need to lie down.
Quickly.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

He's having coke blown up his arse, Stevie Nicks style.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

He also looks weirdly like Mark Hamill, circa the Empire Strikes Back. If only Yoda was perched on top of those feathers.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

And a bit like Malcolm MacDowell

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

i think he looks like frank fucking spencer. ooh betty etc.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

or tommy steele. ask yer grandad kids!

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

I find Jake Shears and the girl from Scissor Sisters who calls herself "Transvestite" or something to be creepy and try hard.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

I heard something about Kasabian quitting the industry if Jamie Cullum beat them to whatever award it was.

I prayed so hard for that I damn near followed through.....

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Joss Stone is approximately as "urban" as rolling fields of corn.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

wouldn't mind having a roll around with her yerknowwotimean?

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Ah, it's that time of year again... the Brits roll around and anyone who claims to have any clear perception of 'credible music' mouths off about them. It's somewhat nostalgic, isn't it? But wait a moment! Franz Ferdinand? The Killers? Muse? The Zutons? Morrissey? The Libertines? Kasabian? Snow Patrol? The Streets? Are these not arguably, um, quite good acts? Let me remind you of last years winners...

* British Male Solo Artist Daniel Bedingfield
* British Female Solo Artist Dido
* British Group The Darkness
* British Album The Darkness "Permission to Land"
* British Breakthrough Act Busted
* British Single Dido "White Flag"
* British Rock Act The Darkness
* British Urban Act Lemar
* British Dance Act Basement Jaxx
* International Male Solo Artist Justin Timberlake
* International Female Solo Artist Beyonce
* International Album Justin Timberlake "Justified"
* International Group White Stripes
* International Breakthrough Artist 50 Cent
* Pop Act Busted
* Outstanding Contribution Duran Duran

Now, in my opinion, the only act even wirth reading in that list is the White Stripes, but I know a helluva a lot of people who think them overrated. So, okay, the Brits aren't exactly a good representation of truly decent music, but that's not what they're about anyway. They serve more as celebrations of people who are rich, famous and adored, possibly through opening they're mouths or doing vaguely entertaining things with their fingers. But do you know what's wonderful? this year, for whatever reason, those same people just happen to not all be completely dire! HUZZAH!

In any case, it's a massive improvement on the fucking Darkness being all but one of the acts to represent rock-orientated music.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

I really can't think of anything to say. My contempt for some of the decisions in this face of an award ceremony is beyond bleive. Robbie fucking Williams?! Meh.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

And by face I of course mean farce...

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

I was going to be nominated for best Urban act, but I never got my album out in time. Which was a shame. It was gonna be called, "Beats Of The Romford Massive". I reckon a No. 1 best selling album in the UK, hands down. Or maybe....just maybe...

I have no fucking chance.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Forgot to mention, that woman from the Scissor Sisters is actually the most "bloke" person in the band.

Re: '...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

Don't be tight! It was made more boring by the same people winning the few awards they gave out. You wouldn't think it had been a good year for British music and music in general looking at the brits and it's performances which were dire. Morrisey was right to jump ship 'lastminute.com' as the annoying Robbie Williams put it.

'...Mama'-mia! Scissor Sisters win three Brits

If Joss Stone is urban, then I'm a fecking hardcore gangster rapper. Why does everyone love Robbie Williams?

AND HOW IS JOSS STONE URBAN? Wow. They need to rename that...badly.
