Scotland's fuggin' great...

Cheered by news of their countrymen romping home at the Brit Awards, the makers of Irn-Bru are to slap Franz Ferdinand all over their bottles.

The limited-edition run will feature four designs - one per band member - and will be all fizzy and orange and stuff.

Yum.

Tomorrow: Buckfast to paste Arab Strap lyrics onto their multipacks. "It was the biggest cock you'd ever seen..."

DiScuss: If Rome had taken Scotland, would they all be wussies like us English dogs?

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Irn-Bru is rusty water.

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Not mine, but:

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

tut, i'm a massive franz fan and this just pisses you off. I can understand if Britney Spears or Justin timberland is on a pepsi can, but not a rock band.

If they carry on like this their long term fans will just get sick of them.

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Don't worry, everyone else is already sick of them.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

I've not drunk Irn-Bru in over 6 months.

Does that make me unpatriotic?

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Nah, sorry wrightylew, I like this a lot!

I've liked FF a lot since the World of Possibilities compilation, so that's pretty 'long-term' I guess, and being Scottish I naturally think Irn-Bru is the nectar passed down from Mount Olympus - I think it's just funny, given:

a) they're not Britney or Justin
b) Irn-Bru is not Pepsi

So they make a couple of bob out it, fine. But to be on the label of an Irn-Bru bottle, that's every Scots dream!

Actually, on dodgy things appearing on Scottish drinks, does anyone else remember their dad drinking the cans of Tennents Lager with the ropey looking women on the side?

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

ooo i do love the unsmirking piety of 'long term fans' ;-)

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

I've liked FF since never, because they are arse. And I've liked Iru Bru since never because its arse. LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

oh yes and Johnny Moscow is also arse.
I totally second johndelinquent's post. Its a Scottish thing. Irn-Bru is NOT Pepsi, they have awesome ad campaigns and both FF and Irn-bru are now part of scottish pop culture. I am a fairly big FF fan but even if i wasn't i would see no problem in them advertising the Bru. It is a laugh after all it won't be taken deadly seriously.

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

You suck, no offence. Irn Bru and Franz Ferdinand and everything else Scottish rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Well, you like Blink 182, so you suck too, ner ner ner

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

irn-bru is tasty.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

And the greatest hangover cure ever. That's EVER.

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Too right.
ah the memories of aberdonian streets, blurry eyes, legs in hangover footweary swamps going out for bru fix. shame when i moved to the land of eng that it is sometimes tufffff to get hold of. local uni costcutter has it in spades though. cant wait for the FF covers. this really will make the girls disco dance.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

I read somewhere (I have no idea how true this is) that Coca Cola is the favourite soft drink of every country in the world excpet:

a) Peru, where it's some Peruvian cola or another, and
b) Scotland, where it's Irn Bru.

How amusing...

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

I heard that too.

I was also told that they don't let it into the USA. Ostensibly because of the secret ingredient, but really it's because coca-cola are running scared.

Again, this may be completely untrue...

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

its inca kola. very much like irn bru, only yellowy, and with FAR FAR FAR much more sugar. mixed with booze it is absolutely lethal.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

"Tennents Lager with the ropey looking women on the side? "

Indeed. One of my friends dad worked for Tennents and one of those half naked models was his baby sitter... lucky sod.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Maybe if rome hadn't taken england, we'd have lost all those wars to the scottish and be rubbish at football, but we'd have our very own orange fizzy metal brew drink.

Has Irn-Bru led anyone else to believe that a girder is a strange Scottish animal with orange fizzy blood?

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

i have to say your really not as funny as you think you are.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Irn-Bru is tasty. FF are rather good. 'Nuff said.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

irn-bru is an excellent fizzysoftdrink ...possibly the best.
and franz ferdinand are pretty good

hurrah for scotland

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

I love Irn-Bru lots. I'll have to take out gaffer tape so I can paste over their ugly mugs while I sip my drink of choice.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

mmmmm irun bru franz ferdinand suck

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

You can't tell they're Scottish from Alex Kapsrtsdngfkeos' singing voice. He sounds like a posh englishman!

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Last I checked, the lyrics weren't "I say, don't you know! Dash old chap, one must make haste."

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Well no, but they aren't tek me oot either.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

anyone heard biffy clyros version of take me out ... they totally reinvent the song and biffyise it.
it seems a good song to cover actaully, scissor sisters version was a complete revamp as well come to think of it.

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

it was FANTASTIC yesss! soo utterly simn neil-eque the way he belted out the chourus. awesome utterly awesome

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

Irn Bru and Irn Bru Bars are the reasons for all of my dentistry. As i whacked into my 20's i had to cut down the intake... it's about 99 percent Acid, 1 percent sugar. The perfect blend of beauty and evil. With those incredible ads, and the ability to get money back for the bottle (*take note English) it's already hard enough to resist. Put FF on there and you might as well just hook every child in Scotland up to an Irn Bru drip. Shame on them, etc...

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

I don't think FF were asked to have their name put on it. I thought that the company were just doing that in tribute(and for money natch). How many singles have they released off FF the album, that's a more interesting question.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

The way i read the story was that they were making four bottles, one for each band member, and that was it.

Did anyone email Barrs to check?

I drank far too much Irn-Bru in first year at uni. In fact even now there's a corner of my flat dedicated to the empties i've never taken back to the 24 hour garage. Oh, good call on Irn-Bru bars too!

Re: Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop

By "read the story", i meant when i read it elsewhere.

Take Me Out... for some fizzy pop
