Steve Lamacq is to get a daily Monday to Friday show on 6Music.

The former Evening Session presenter will host the digital station's drive time show, between 4 and 7 pm.

Lamacq told reporters: "Hopefully the new show won't be too po-faced or serious and it certainly won't be me and a bunch of old indie records. We'll be delving into all sorts of music, with a lot of input from listeners. I'm just getting more nosey about what other people like."

I'd like to think there might be the occassional old indie record... I remember the Falklands War you know. You could leave your door unlocked back then if you wanted. Your house got turned over though.

Yes. Yes. Yes yes yes yes. Although if they made it a bit later, that would rule. I should still be able to catch 1.5/2 hours a day most days though.

I live in a 2 digital radio household. That's 0.5 digital radios per room. And it's still not enough!

I've got a digital radio too and 6 Music is great. I love the mix of modern stuff and older songs they play, and they play session tracks from anywhere over the last 30 years or so.

I can't seem to get XFM on my digital radio but I listen to it online every now and then and I'm not impressed. It seems to be all Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand etc with very little from more obscure bands.

yes i totally agree, the man is terribly annoying. roundtable is good sometimes though... i think i generally listen to too much 6music....

What we need is for Radio 1 to get rid of that hip hop lovin' twit Zane Lowe, and give Lammo his old slot back. My life hasn't been the same since.

6 music is awesome, Lammo filled in for that Andrew Collins a couple of weeks ago on drivetime and it was great.
Phil Jupitus is pretty good waking up material i find, he plays good music. BBC6 is the future.

He does look quite weird though, he's certainly got a face for radio. Anyway, he stands out like a beacon of hope amidst all the slurry that we have to put up with Zane Lowe.

Off topic entirely, but Blink 182 have split up and there's no article about it.

phil jupitus is worse than andrew collins (can you imagine it?) - i think lammo, maconie and gideon coe are the only two good djs - the rest are flatulent bores who have been worryingly farmed out to a 'new music' station - still at least lauren laverne and other walking shit from xfm havn't been tempted across - Id rather have vic mcglyn anyday than some of the alternatives - at least she's probably brought records in real life!

There is hope - even if lammo does look scarier than ever

Buy a digital radio, folks.

I didn't get one for years because I thought I'd need an aerial sticking out of the roof and whatnot. Nope. The normal extendy thing on the radio itself is all you need. You can get a radio for under £50 in Dixons (and the model in question is very good). Do it now.

excellent news! it always felt kinda surreal doing weekend afternoon housework to Lamacq. 6Music is the new Radio One. That station is one step sideways from CBeebies.

Really pleased about this - Lamacq was the smartest journalist on the NME back when I was a girl (not difficult, perhaps...) and the one who seemed most genuinely into the music, so it's good to still have him around. Won't miss Andrew Collins either (smug, annoying bastard). I'd be happier still if they'd given Lammo the 7-10 evening slot, getting rid of Tom "play my own records? Me?" Robinson.

Having seen Lamacq 'in real life', I can confirm that he does not make a good advert for the music journo lifestyle - radio is a wonderful thing, especially digital radio:)

I don't understand all this anti-Andrew Collins feeling. He's a witty and intelligent broadcaster with vast knowledge of the music he plays. His programme is a pleasure to listen to and will be much missed.

I have the utmost respect for Lamacq but, like a previous contributor, would much prefer him to replace Tom Robinson. Andrew Collins is perfect on that teatime show, especially the frequently hilarious Friday Roundtable which won't be the same without him.

Agree with the comments overall about 6 Music. Glad so many people are aware of its greatness. Especially Gideon Coes excellent morning show.
