With ...And You You Know Us By The Trail Of Dead producer Mike McCarthy sat behind the controls and a glowing recommendation culminating in a support slot on the current tour by The Walkmen to their name, Sound Team really haven't got any excuses for getting it wrong.
Which thankfully they haven't. Got it wrong, that is.
'Born To Please' is a layered, semi-melancholic affair awash with bursts of feedback and almost apologetic vocals from Matt Oliver that recall the heady days of Buffalo Tom and Built To Spill whilst still managing to sound current and vital, as if it were recorded yesterday.
After several plays it begins to take on the form of a dream about lullabies, thanks in no small part to the repetitive (in a good way) nature of the verse-segue-chorus.
More importantly, it doesn't try and be too cool for school, and just concentrates on the important aspects like a good song should do: lyrics, melody and a tune. Niiice.
woo!
i haven't been bowled over by much indie this year but Sound Team great, they sound very "expansive" - does that make sense? think i'll check if they're touring...
They are.
With The Walkmen for the rest of this week.
i do quite
