Artists: Edwyn Collins
Edwyn Collins is seriously ill after suffering a brain haemorrhage on Sunday (February 20th).

A statement from his wife Grace, posted on the bulletin board at www.edwyncollins.com, reads: "Edwyn suffered a cerebral haemorhage on Sunday night. He is being well looked after in hospital. When there is more to report I'll let you all know."

Collins' management also issued a statement alongside similar lines adding, "Doctors are trying to stabilise his condition. As soon as we have more information we will let you know."

Collins fronted cult favourites Orange Juice - signed to fabled Postcard Records - from 1976 to 1985. The singer/songwriter is best known for the smash hit 'A Girl Like You'. He recently produced the debut album by Little Barrie, and has worked with Scottish songsmiths Sons & Daughters. Collins also co-wrote and starred in the Channel 4 series 'West Heath Yard', a satire on the music industry.

Those new to Collins should check out his 1995 solo album 'Gorgeous George' or for a fine example of his production work, track down 'I Am The Greatest' by one-time Setanta signings A House.

Get well soon Edwyn.

Orange Juice, along with bands like XTC are often stated as major influences on the indie bands of today, so his music in its time was really important and continues to be so. Let's hope he gets better.

'I Am The Greatest' By A-House is a brilliant album yes! Production is sweet as, Collins is a wizard. A brain haemorrhage is something really serious tho, i just hope he's stable and not in too much pain the poor chap.x

Re: Edwyn Collins very ill

'I Am The Greatest' is one of my Top 10 albums of all time. Fact. I must write a review of it for the 'classics' section on this site at some point.

Re: Edwyn Collins very ill

'i dont care' is a very (pre) britpoppy tune, what year was this album put out? Something daft like 1992? Really worth looking into, for the songwriting and Edwyns crisp warm production.

Edwyn Collins very ill

All the best Edwyn. If you need cheering up, just listen to your own and OJ's "You can't hide your love forever" and relive the "Sound of happiness". If there are any Indie fans out there who haven't heard this seminal album then go get it and be very happy.

Re: Edwyn Collins very ill

For fucks sake. i apologize for this comment.

Hope you make a speedy recovery, Edwyn!
Heard him a fortnight ago on 6Music, being asked to review a Basement Jaxx single. "I'd rather Fleetwood Mac" was his reply.
