Artists: Beck
Looks like alt-rock star Beck will become one of the beautiful people of L.A.'s infamous Orange County. All he needs is a sporty car, a handful of charge cards, and only the latest in new fashion....oh, and some tracks off his new album...

Yes, that's right, Beck will preview five songs off his upcoming record, 'Guero,' on FOX's teen melodrama The O.C. The songs will be played in the show nearly three weeks before the CD is released. 'Guero' was originally scheduled to be in stores last October, but faced delays until this March in order to give the artist more time to polish up the production. In an ironic twist of fate, Beck's label, Interscope/Geffen, may move up the release date due to the fact that a few songs from the disc have already made their way into cyberspace via the Internet. Hm, now I wonder just who could be behind leaking those tracks....

The five songs selected for March 10th episode of The O.C. include the album's lead single, 'E-Pro,' along witih 'Scarecrow,' 'Missing,' 'Girl,' 'Que Onda Guero.' A cover of Daniel Johnson's 'True Love Will Find You in the End' will also be featured on the episode, as well as will be included on the fourth edition of the The O.C.'s soundtrack series (at least, that's what Billboard says).

Beck's 'Guero' is scheduled to hit stores March 28th.

Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's O.C.

i think the oc is shite, always just thought it was an excuse for a bad soundtrack
but thats a bit mad, its selling out, hes gonna become what dashboard confessionals was to dawsons crack!

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's O.C.

No he won't. Beck's already a huge artist in his own right, so the balance is much more even.

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's O.C.

he is a huge artist and i think some of his stuff is amazing but theres no real need to be promoting your music on some shit TV show
do people who like beck even watch the OC?

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's

yuh huh.

and are all 5 tunes gonna be in one episode?
in the background?
with seth going on about emo geeks over the top?

or do they go to a gig?

Seth Cohen has great taste, he would never listen to Beck, the most overrated living artist (Jeff Buckley being the most overrated among the dead).

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's

I reckon the most overrated dead guy is definitely Kirt Kobane. Living...Bright Eyes?

I mean they're good, they're just not THAT good.

Also I have only watched the OC with my brother a couple of times, but the last TV listing I saw for it was something like 'Seth goes to see the Killers'. So I don't believe this particular fictional character has good taste.

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's

Conor Oberst sounds like a goat. 'nuff said.

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's

On the new album he toned down the moaning a bit, but he still sings almost exactly the same melody in every song!!

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's

Omigod! Thank you soo much for saying what I was afraid to--Bright Eyes is muy overrated! With Bright Eyes, not so much with side-project Desaparecidos, which I kinda like, Connor Obest's voice is just too unrefined to be coupled with dripping lyrics and sparse-sounding acoustic guitar! Sorry if I'm not indie enough now for having lashed out against Bright Eyes's brand of emo, but... it's just kinda boring music...

Kurt Cobain is soo NOT overrated, though! I think the guy was a genius. This grunge pioneer, unlike Mr. Oberst, had more powerful, controlled vocals. He rocked Nirvana. May he rest in peace...

As for Beck, which is probably who I should have been discussing all this time, I think he's a talented musician aswell. I'm sorry to hear that he's whoring himself out on a crap primetime teen soap, as I was disappointed at the Killers and Rooney for lending their greatness to the show.

I must admit, though, that, while I don't appreciate Fox's poor attempts at reliving the ratings they enjoyed with Beverly Hills 90210 by creating yet another teen drama about sullen rich white kids, The O.C. seems to feature pretty good music that MTV neglects, turning the lot of pathetic teens who actually watch onto indie acts. I respect that!

Re: Teen angst, anyone? Beck lends music to Fox's

He likes Death Cab though.

and Low. So it's not all bad.

Urgh. How low-brow. What next, Desperate Housewives?

I think I'll resist and wait for the album to hit the shops.

the OC sound track is awfully good, the shows producer tries to push new american music, cos it's so much harder for smaller bands on independant labels to get nationally recognised over there with out the force of big lables. by that respect it's qutie odd that beck's music will be on the oc, but in some ways it does suit the show.seth cohen is into the acest music, and is tres hot.heh.

Yeh but the problem is most of that new American music is painfully crap. Apart from Beck when his stuff gets on. Don't know why he's doing it though. Can't he release the tracks to DiS as free downloads?

He should put them on Smallville

I think Beck is more than goddam cool enough to do what the hell he likes. I've never seen the O.C. but having your songs played on a popular TV show is hardly selling your soul to McDonalds or Nestle. Why shouldn't his songs be heard by a new audience? I'd love the whole World to hear Sea Change - it's so beautiful.
