Snow Patrol have fired bassist and founding member Mark McClelland.
In a a statement the band say the pressures of success were taking their toll on working relationships within the band. It was felt that Snow Patrol could not continue working with McClelland.
Snow Patrol say: 'Coming to this decision was the hardest thing the remaining band members have ever faced, it was reached with much regret.'
In other SP-related news, Gary and Tom will be taking a break from writing the follow up to 'Final Straw' to play a DJ set in Cambridge on March 17th at The Junction. Tickets are £7 on the door. They follow this with another set in Bedford at The Pad on March 18th.

That's snow joke!
Does anyone snow who might replace him :-)-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
*in best school teacher voice* Stop it, both of you! -
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
well, according to terra diable (who sp have toured with often enough) a month ago:
This message is to inform fans that Pablo Diablo has left Terra Diablo to pursue other projects. The band wish him all the best and will continue as a four piece.
and then later on came:
Just to answer as many of your questions as possible on recent staff downsizing yes Paul has left do do other things. He has joined another band who may be Irish and very rich now.
and it just so happens that paul has played with sp quite a few times in the past.

Who knows, maybe soon they'll be playing splitting games!
I wonder, did he walk or did he....
Sorry.

I empathise with people who have their band members turn on them in this way. Unless he's done something unforgivably bad which really deserves this (Doherty style), or started not turning up for gigs or something, I think his bandmates are in the wrong - a band is a group based on trust and friendship, and that kind of trust shouldnt be broken lightly.-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
At the stage SP are at, their name becomes a brand and the band itself becomes a business like any other, complete with staff issues.
Having said that, I hate to see this kind of thing happen!

It just goes to snow.
There's snow business like snow business. -

...well, he's clearly developed a drink problem or something- there's always one!
either that or he refused to partake in a Coldplay-style makeoever, complete with stubble and foppish haircut. -

'tis strange indeed.

I heard he said something about Gary's hair and it was the final straw.
Sigh. Someone must have said this already -

It's like they're coming to piss about in my living room :*)-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
Will you be moved by then?
You should try and engineer that \m/-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
Sadly not. Maybe next time
Might ask if there's a job going in the ba... OH WAIT THERE IS!-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
At The Pad? I can't think of any way for you to better solidfy your position of favour with Bedford's vast population of 17 year old women.

If Gary Lightbody should be firing anyone - it's his hairdresser.
The Boring Twat from Toploader look never caught on.
.....Maybe McClelland suggested they stop playing "Run" on every televised event. -
Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
Maybe they thought he was too flakey.-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
*Raises head briefly. Looks away again.*-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
maybe he finally dried himself off, looked himself in the mirror and realised that his band were committing crimes against music.
don't get me wrong- i am a fan of songwriting. i am not, however, a fan of lameness.

Wow, that's really How To Be Dead mean and create Half The Fun for everyone else. There's Ways & Means of solving Tiny Little Fractures in a band, and to choose to Run is just like playground Spitting Games. Whatever's left of the band, I'm sure there'll be some Grazed Knees, and Somewhere A Clock is Ticking and We Can Run Away When They're All Dead And Gone.
I'm off to eat some Chocolate.-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
You spent far too much time thinking of that.-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
didnt he do that before after a news article? incredible. i dont thik i'd quite call it a 'talent'. it's like when a guy at a party goes 'watch my party trick!' and then removes his arm with a straw. impressive, yet futile and slightly sickening. well, real sickening.-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
NOT "sickening"--awesome! Anyway, sucks that a founding member has gotten the boot and that the remaining members have decided to take a break before working on another album.
Snow Patrol have just started to break into the mainstream here in the States, and now it seems like they're about to drop out of sight permanently.
Think of all the bands that take breaks, lose members, and, consequently, never make music again.

Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
about 3 and a half minutes, to be quite accurate ;-).-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
only a few more members to go and we'll all be happy then!

*sigh* they never used to be lame. maybe mark's decided to do a bob fairfoul (ex-Idlewild fame) and get out before they turn even more sappy.
i do still love snow patrol AND idlewild though, even if they aren't as rawk anymore. -

Erm, just want to point out that the dj set at the junction is tomorrow (the 17th as stated) NOT tonight. I know because i have to be in birmingham tomorrow and had been considering going.-
Re: Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
yep you're quite right. i have hit myself about the face with a copy of 'final straw' and changed the story. cos i wrote it. innit.

poor kiddo.. he turned down a lucrative job offer whilst patrol were on the rocks and stuck with them no matter what, and now he's on his own.
good luck to him i say -
Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
Holy cow (ho ho). This is strange, strange news. Having loved SP since the start, it's particularly gutting. Mark is an absolutely top bloke. And no one plays a xylophone quite like that man. One hopes they don't go shit. For all the predicatble backlashes from 'indier than thou' types, Final Straw is still a great album and they are one band to whom the success achieved over the last year was long overdue and richly deserved. -
Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
snow patrol r not lame!!!! nor r they commiting crimes against music!!!! -
Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
are these meant to be rude or have i just got a dirty mind?? \m/ \o/ ???? -
Snow... way! 'Patrol bassist sacked
Thinking of Idlewild (although a bit off topic) do all bands get more mellow as they go on? It seems that way?
