i need Muy Feo mp3s. anyone remember them?

i know the name

but only 'cause of the Org Records / My Vitriol connection..

Wow

That's going back a bit. I saw Cay support Idlewild in 2002 I think, still one of my favourite gigs ever.

doubt it

they had disappeared by the end of 2000 :-( last release was ressurexit on org after east/west dropped them, then they did the festivals including main stage at reading, and then i honestly heard that they'd pawned their guitars for drugs, and even sean organ doesn't know where they are.

i think the idlewild tour was

summer of 99, cos i saw a show on it.

I'm being silly

It wasn't Cay, it was Ikara Colt. I'm must have seen them some other time.

great thread

I used to love Cay in my youth, particularly around 1999 time. Remember a great gig they played in the summer of 99 with Co.Uk (who then changed their name to Co_Dot) and a band called Serum, who also seemed really promising then disappeared.

Always wondered what happened to Cay...heard many things: they all became coke heads, sold their instruments, etc. Also heard that Som from My Vitriol had to get a restraining order placed on Anet Mook. Almost certainly not true, but it's what I heard. She seemed a bit fucked up when they played the main stage at Reading.

Still think 'Nature Creates Freaks' is a great album.

hm. i thought the album was a bit patchy

BUT some excellent songs on it. Princes & Princesses is one of the most cathartic songs (for me at least) ever. Its ace.

i think its great

the quiet songs are lovely.
yeh its either smack or coke they pawned their instruments for apparently, but who knows it its true.

serum released two singles, the were both very fun, had them on my blog a while back. never got to see them though

and also

co.uk's best single was Big Green Bath. irish green day wannabe mania.

Serum

done a bit of digging, and they've got a myspace: http://www.myspace.com/serum95

Weird, yeah, thought Know How and Feeling Is Believing were amazing at the time...listening back to them now, still good songs but a little grungey / cliched. Remember Know How got a bit of airplay on the Evening Session. It looks like they've reformed as well, according to their MS

I liked Serum a lot

and Cay were great !
co.uk were a bit pop/punk by numbers...

Cay

Cay were very sweet people, but they seemed to have a touch of the Docherty "heroin chic" about them. By which I mean they enjoyed the rock and roll myth a little too much.

I know they used to pawn their gear a lot, I once saw them pawn their guitars to buy stamps to send out flyers or a newsletter.

I always heard that their manager sort of fostered the habit, so she could keep them onside.

When they got signed, Nick and Anet (vox and guitars, a really sweet couple when they were sober) got a lovely plush flat, and a juicer (really) and tried to get healthy.

I didn't see them after that until they had been dropped, and last time I saw Anet so was outside the kitchens in the Spitz, doing what appeared to be begging for food. She certainly looked like she was using something.

Sad.

I used to LOVE that song

even if it was their "Doll parts"

Those gigs in 2000 were really promising. But then yeah, they completely vanished in a drug shaped hole. Sad.

i loved cay

so much more than hole.
they made my first year of gig going absolutely amazing, and thus are part of what made me love live music and music in general so much.

funny how

the most seemingly insignificant bands can do that isn't it?

Very true

I was nutso for My Vitriol around the same time. I remember legging it to the main stage at Reading in 2000 for 12 o' clock just to see them.

Happy days...

i remember that

they had a singing fish

i have a picture of that

for some reason.

indeed

see also (for me): Seafood and Ligament

Wow

I just listened to the songs on the Cay My Space fan page. I thought it sounded great. Thanks for getting me interested as I never would have heard of this band otherwise.

its

ace.

yes it is !

Cay

were fucking brilliant, in my opinion

And my favourite co.uk song was probably 'Freakazoid'

never knew they were so popular..

the drummer was originally from Ireland and lived in the same street as me in the house opposite. his younger brother gave me a single when it came out(was pinkish and has kida crap phtocopied inlay - think was Org lable or something?)
think twas the singer and one of teh ther band memebers that fecked up thewir budget on drugs...ooops
i know that the drummer is now a teacher in london..

that org single was ace

wish i had a copy :(
yeh i think anet and the guitarist were a couple from what i recall.

Never got

to see Cay but the album has some fantastic stuff on it, especially the title track.

I quite liked co.uk too. My favourite tune was probably Influenced but most of their stuff was fairly good.

Their singer Joe went on to form another band afterwards called Vapour Lounge along with Craig who drums for Fighting With Wire, Herb who used to play bass in Fighting With Wire and a guy called John Rossi that supposedly used to be in Snow Patrol. They were fairly average and didn't last too long.

Joe's got a new band now although at the moment I can't remember their name, which is bugging me. I haven't seen them yet but they're supposedly really good.
