Alan English of YMSS told DiS: "We’re really keen to stress that Hurrah! is not being re-released. It is merely being re-pressed. We have sold out of the first 2000 limited edition versions and so are re-pressing the record with new artwork.
We were always going to have to do something new once the handmade versions were all gone and we don’t want people to think they’re being ripped-off.
'Ores' is available as a CD single, the video is available to download for free and we will be making the 65daysofstatic remix available on our website for anyone who bought the original version of Hurrah! and understandably doesn’t want to shell out for the re-press."
So there

Hurrah! YMSS to re-release
I didn't buy the original copy just so I can wait a few months and be screwed over by a reissue.
Thank goodness Ores is coming out as a single though. Cheeky muthas.
Re: Hurrah! YMSS to re-release
- if you want 'Ores', buy the single
- if you want the video for 'Ores', download it
- if you want the 65dos remix, it'll be on their website so you can download it
- heck, if you want the cover artwork for the repress, it's on their website now
maybe what's "screwing you over" is an obsessive need to own every piece of ymss-related paraphernalia going (in which case, join the club :-)
Re: Hurrah! YMSS to re-release
This is a good thing.
UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
i mean, really?
it really doesnt make much sense to me, and it certainly doesnt make me happy. how limited will Ores be? what chance do i have of picking it up?
mp3s are all very well, but not everyone has access to downloads, and CERTAINLY not everyone likes compressed sound.
it seems somehow to be rewarding people for not buying the original pressing,
ALTHOUGH
how many tracks will be on the Ores single?
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
Session tracks I fink.
Not too sure.
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
and how easy is it to come by the old albums/mini albums?
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
Then I think to myself: 'That's probably kidnap you know. Not such a great idea. Have another beer and stop talking to yourself freakface.'
And I do. And I forget. And then I nod slooooowly to Spooks The Horse until it gets to the end and then I go 'DER DER DER DER DER DER DEEEERRRR DERRRRR DEEEERRRRRR DER DER DER DEEERRRRRR' and spill whatever remnants of pissy lager I have on my trousers.
YMSS are awesome.
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
As to the discussion, I don't know what all the fuss is about. YMSS are a fantastic band, who I go to see play whenever I can. I am also happy that there will be a new single and a repress with extras to buy, as will most fans I think.
Bands like this need support, encouragement and record sales!
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
so there.
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
The point it is, like, I bought this album months ago, and it's just a bit short changing to see a rerelease with material not available elsewhere on it. I don't like rebuying things because, well, that's £8/£9/£10 I could spend on another CD - I don't have unlimited amounts of money, but there seems to be unlimited amounts of music for me to spend it on, so rebuying things is a waste of time and resources.
Plus, they SHOULD repress 'Let's Get Going...' ;-)
Anyway, y'know, congrats to the band for having the guts to put the 65days remix for free on the website, that's decent of them.
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
Yeah, but c'mon - so do other bands. I already bought the record once, so why should I buy it again?
Obviously, I know the band have said that's not what they expect, and it makes a lot of sense to include Ores on the repress as well [standalone single, so doesn't bother], but it just agitates me when any band rereleases something with extra material I can't get elsewhere - as I said initially, it's just not what I expect from bands who have control over the output and seem to value their fans as much as YMSS.
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
The remix will be available for free on our website (as you mentioned in your other post!) and we have offered to make copies for anyone who asks for em.
xx
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
As you've pointed out, you've rectified it and I'm more than happy, but it doesn't mean I won't back down that cash-in reissues with new material are horrible in principle, and the information initially available *did* make this look like one :P
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
still: what is this fundamental difference between a rerelease and a repress that youre so keen to define?
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
A re-release reeks of cashing in and that certainly isn't what's going down here.
We have no 'record deal'.
We have to take everything as it comes.
Fierce Panda told us that Hurrah was going to sell out and asked if we wanted to set about hand-making a bunch more sleeves. We chose not to because we wanted to keep the first edition special. We all sat round our kitchen table for a week putting each individual copy together. We never expected that they would sell out.
We like the song Ores.
We want as many people to hear it as possible.
We asked if it could go on the repress of Hurrah! because only 1000 copies were being made of the single.
There wasn't enough money to put the Ores video on the single, so we asked if that could go on the repress too.
Our friends 65daysofstatic had done a remix for us. We have no other releases in the pipeline after the repress of Hurrah!...
So we could put it on that, or sit on it until someone somewhere decides that they might possibly want to release something else by us.
We're not pissed off, it just feels that this is slightly unnecessary criticism y'know?
Alcxxk, I know you have been around for a long time and for that we're truly grateful. But we don't want anyone to buy Hurrah! twice, that isn't what this is about. Nor do we want to reward people who didn't buy the original pressing.
It was just an opportunity for more people to hear our music... And we figured that if we had the opportunity to, then why not let them hear as many songs as possible?
And for anyone who already bought Hurrah! and really wants to hear the 65daysofstatic remix, but doesn't want to download it... Send us a SAE and a CDR and we'll make you a copy next month. Email band@ymss.org.uk for the address.
Ymss xx
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
I don't think anyone was ever saying that you're evil bloodsucking fiends, it just seemed a little... off.
One question, though - why not just include the 65days remix on the Ores single? Or are you expecting a bone-crunching, disco-stomping, hand-clapping surprise hit with it and didn't want to threaten it's chart eligability? ;-)

The polar opposite of Franz Ferdinand?
UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
A while back, the first Boards of Canada ep (vinyl) on Skam was going for a vast amount on ebay, like £200 a copy or something. Then Skam re-pressed it with the same artwork and you can now get it for a fiver in Selectadisk. I like this attitude.
Let the collectors covet their nice cardboard sleeves; everyone else just wants to hear the fecking music.
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
Seconded.
(Although i do like a good piece of CD artwork. Gives you something to play with while you listen...)
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
As it stands, it's all good now, cause the band are good sports, and I do feel a little silly for having to go on about this, but people seem to keep missing my original point and it's a little frustrating to be labelled as a collector nerd with a fetish for corrugated cardboard and paper fasteners.

Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
I also like a bit of unusual packaging.
I guess I just wanted to have a big fat dig at people who are obsessed with something's value as a collector's item, really. It's even worse with electronica/techno music: people will spend £50 on an original issue even when the repress is available! Muppets.

UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
Whenever I happen to bump into YMSS I feel like I'm in a time warp. I guess no-one else is doing it now so it's still valid & interesting and all that, but I do feel like someone is covering my teeneage record collection!
Maybe this is what getting old feels like. :(
***
Reissuing with extra stuff in an 'unlimited' version so more people can hear the music is surely a good idea. When the Corrs etc. do it they do it for profit, I'm guessing the lads are doing it for love of music.
Remember how annoying it is when you discover a band only to find out all the tracks you like are on an EP/LP you can no longer get? And then stop quibbling.
<goes to dig out Come On. Die Young et. al...>
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
ymss don't really on guitar pedals to keep you intrested.
ymss put emotion into their music
you can tell the difference between one ymss song and the next.
ymss dont call other bands to compensate for a lack of talent or inventiveness
i could go on...and i will
the songs dont sound like 3 random notes, repeated for five minutes until someone steps on a distortion pedal before fading out into the same notes but played in a different way.
at ymss gigs people dont just stand there scratching their beard, some people actually move.
(as you can tell, i ain't a mogwai fan)
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release
WHAT? Are you saying that Mogwai don't. Go and listen to Ex Cowboy or Hunted By A Freak then tell me that there is no emotion in the band.
(For the record I think both Mogwai and YMSS are great)
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
I can hear elements of loads of different artists (CODY was just the first album that came to mind) the above two, anyone on Constelation records, even lo-fiers such as Urusei Yatsura all come to mind.
I was hoping to bump into them at a festival again this year to see if the sound had developed - I'm guessing I will, and that it has.
At Truck I went because people who know what I like told me that they played my kind of music. They just didn't wow me. That said they are more interesting that the majority of music around, and definitly better than Hope Of the States.
Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea
i think that the verse chorus pattern works well.
still, i dont think its really emotional, jus the sequence of notes makes a nice melody.
maybe i went a bit overboard, jus defending YMSS and purveyors of intresting music thats right.
