Artists: Bloc Party
Can't think of a witty headline: it's a Sunday. Sorry.

English comedienne/author Jenny Eclair has told of how she upset “the one with the modern fringe” from Bloc Party. DiS’ incredible powers of deduction will assume she means guitarist Russell Lissack.

Speaking on London talk radio station LBC, on which she’s a presenter, she said “we were at Radio 4 and he had his feet up on a chair. I shouted at him to get them off because I wanted to sit down, and things got a bit heated.”

Indicating that she hadn’t known at the time he was in a hip, new, future-of-music pop combo (or words to that effect), she added “he probably wasn’t expecting a 45-year-old woman to be shouting at him. It was very embarrassing.”

Bloc Party release new single ‘Banquet’ on April 18th. Their March/April tour is sold out but dates have been added to the tour in October. The full list:

2nd Edinburgh Usher Hall
4th Glasgow Carling Academy
6th Newcastle Northumbria University
8th Cambridge Corn Exchange
9th Norwich UEA
10th Portsmouth Guildhall
12th Sheffield Octagon
13th Birmingham Academy
14th Birmingham Academy
16th Nottingham Royal Concert Hall
17th Liverpool Royal Court Theatre
18th Leeds University
20th Manchester Carling Apollo
21st Manchester Carling Apollo
22nd Leicester De Montfort Hall
24th Cardiff University
25th Bristol Carling Academy
28th London Carling Brixton Academy
29th London Carling Brixton Academy

Debut album ’Silent Alarm’, which has yet to be released in America, has already shifted over 300,000 copies in Europe and Japan.

you could say that 'his modern fringe breaks him'
c'mon shes obviously a dude.
and its good to see Bloc Party doing the 're-release the single the early fans have, play crap venues with no soul' routine. so hot right now.

next week. Bloc Party: Bigger than an A-Bomb?

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

that newcastle date at northumbria is deffinately in a soulless venue ... they shouldve played newcastle university bassment instead, its a slightly smaller venue...but so very very much better for seeing bands in.

ie, not a big empty atmosphere-less hall.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

any university run venue is invariably soulless, i reckon. i'd just ban them outright.

but you're right about newcastle being better than northumbria. the big room at northumbria's like a leisure centre or something ...

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

>and its good to see Bloc Party doing the 're-release the single the early fans have, play crap venues with no soul' routine. so hot right now.

Oh come on. The re-release early single trick happens every time because of that constant that we call 'record companies'. Don't blame Bloc Party. As for them getting bigger, definitely don't blame them for that.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

oh sorry, that wasnt meant to be a dig at the band, just the label. the band are awesome people, have done traffic promotion n talked to kele n russell after both gigs. i do quite enjoy there music to.

the thing is, with venues like the concert hall, why play it? rock city holds just about as much, and its one of the best (large) venues in the country

This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" up

I'd find that offensive, probably tell her to "f*ck off and ask nicely".
With regard to the live dates- I can't believe I missed bloc party play 'night and day' in manchester some months back. the've shot into the mainstream (as they always were going to) and now we have to sit back, sad, in the knowledge that they'll never play a good small venue again.

This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" upsets woman

i got into that night and day gig for free!

This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" up

2 nights at brixton!
gosh!

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" up

With REDJETSON in support, no less.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" up

it's going to be fucking SWEET.

xxx

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

Really?

Loving how they're taking bands out in support who they like regardless of record sales, rather than the latest record label buy in.

Of course, obviously it helps if you can sell out the venues of your own back in the first place ;)

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

I think KaitO are just doing the first half of the October Tour.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

A re-release of 'Banquet' was always on the cards wasn't it...I'm sure that The Parva Cheifs will re-release 'I Predict a riot' as well...Both bands will find themselves in the rare position of actually having re-couped their advances...nothing wrong with that really is there?, apart from the fact that we'll have to put up with hearing the songs another 1000 times...Why don't record companies save the obvious 'singles' until the band have a wide enough audience to capitalise on it? It seems a band only need two tracks...In through the door with one, release the second, grow bigger, then go for chart busters with the first track again...shit, answered my own question!

This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" upsets woman

well asking him to move his feet rather than shouting at him would have avoided that situation.

**insert sexist comment here**

:)

Seriously... why do people get so worked up about bands reissuing singles?

Singles taken from albums are, by their very nature, completely artless and a ripoff, little more than adverts to sell more copies of the album.

'Banquet' is by far one of the best tracks on the album, and may well head straight for the top of the singles chart, and sell them a bucketload more albums. Mission accomplished, no?

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

Yes, well fucking done V2.
Another boost to your profits by selling the buzz band of the month down the river.
Cynical bastards.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

*sniff*

*sniff*

Ah, indie bastard, that's what I smell.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

Nowhere near.
I'm not upset at the band at all.
Everyone's cashing in on the rise of alternative music. From V2, to Mean Fiddler, to Carling, to everyone else in the industry.
It's all about the music, man.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

"rise of alternative music"?

Eh? What ARE you talking about, dear ?

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

Are you saying that you cannot appreciate how alternative music is becoming more popular?
Keane, Franz Ferdinand and the Scissor Sisters aren't strictly pop. But they were the top three highest-selling albums of last year. or something.
Look at the festival prices.
Are you telling me they're not to do with the increasing popularity of alternative music?

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

Festival prices have gone up every year since I've been going.

To be honest, if Keane count as 'alternative' music, so do Travis / Coldplay / RHCP / Foo Fighters / Oasis, all of whom have had huge selling albums in the last few years.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

If it sells really well, how is it an alternative to anything?

Fair play to the record companies for suckering the last few dregs of single buyers and band die-hards alike. That'll keep their kids in private school for another term or two.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" upsets woman

there's nothing in the article about me getting 'worked up' over the re-release of the single. how terribly confused i am right now.

they better bloody release 'this modern love' though.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

And there's nothing in my post that suggests that I was talking about you.

I can, like, read.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

It just seemed to come out of nowhere, that's all...

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

It was more because, not only here but elsewhere, I've seen nothing but complaining about 'Banquet' being re-released, and it strikes me as a bit odd.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

well i'm glad we've got that sorted.

This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" upsets woman

fair play she does work there, but who really cares wot goes on, i ave got the album and i'm happy

its not a re-release. moshi moshi let it out first time, im sure that witcha just knew it was a great track and wanted the chance to push it themselves.

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" upsets woman

Erm, Bloc Party are releasing it again...I know it's a different label, but what does that matter in the eyes of a fan? Like I said, nothing really wrong with it...
Forgive me for posting that last message three times...I'm new, and a bit click-happy.

expected This Modern Love to be next single, failing that She's Hearing voices as only the very astute or the very rich would have it. bit disappointed it's Banquet, as great as it is, might get a bit sick of it with the pretty huge airplay it will inevitably get
