The Killers' Brandon Flowers - seen this weekend gracing the cover of The Observer Magazine, posing like a gay cowboy - has said that Radiohead's Thom Yorke should ditch his electro-bleepin' songwriting and get back to penning pop songs.
Flowers told the aforementioned glossy supplement: “He should feel grateful that's he's (been) given the gift to write pop songs - which he needs to write again!”
What Thom has to say about Flowers' current facial hair - patchy and with a limp caterpillar moustache - we don't know, but The Killers' frontman explained his facial furniture thusly:
“I've never been able to grow a moustache before!”
Fair enough - I can't grow a beard, to be honest. Don't think I haven't tried, either - I stayed in for two weeks solid, rubbing my chin with carpet samples, but all I managed to do was generate static enough to stick my face to the wall for a good six hours at a time. Like a balloon. A red, hairless balloon.
The Killers have a record out next week. Perhaps you've read about it already...
there is nothing
i can say about this man that i haven't said before.
it needs saying again
complete nobcake of the first order.
...
he's always so, so right. Its like he's a sort of messiah or somesuch. We should all be gratefull for his wisdom.
why does their new single sound like
a 6th form band who are massive fans of U2 and Coldplay?
to quote someone from yesterday...
i quite like their new single.
i'm going straight to hell.
:|
because
they are?
what bugs me most about this is the fact he seems to really think that pop songs are the ultimate in music - that's the impression i get, anyway. maybe if he was more open-minded and influencable about different kinds of music, he wouldn't have to rip off meat loaf so much.
Brandon needs to fuck off and die in a river of shit
You're a chump Mr Flowers and you always will be
I'm fairly sure
this man is a nazi
may explain the facial hair
heh
"flowers"
brilliant.
omg.
Will this guy ever just shut up and die?
i bet thom yorke
really cares what this one hit wonder (ok maybe two hit wonder) has to say about him.
I honestly didn't realise
that ANYONE could be this stupid
Flowers is the Jackie Collins to Yorke's Dostoevsky - and that's being kind to him
"When I am king...
...you will be first against the wall, with your opinion, which is of no censequence at all."
:D
i'm going to listen to that right nowwww.
"Thom needs to write pop songs"
Well maybe he doesn't want to. And why do you give a fuck?
If Thom was to write pop songs again they would piss all over yours from a great hight Mr Flowers.
Twat.
Sometimes
I think you guys post news that you know will get us angry. Please stop, I'm so angry at the moment that I can't even pretent to work.
I prefer The Killers
to Radiohead.
I've realised this of late.
This is why Telegraph readers are WRONG!
;-)
:(
oh well :)
I was hoping this
may spark the whole 'what makes a pop song a pop song' debate?!?
As in 'eraser' was in the popular chart was it not?
Anyway Brandon = Chug nut
Thom = Too cool for school
Harrowdown Hill
"We think the same things at the same time, we just can't do anything about it".
If that isn't a big f__k-off pop hook, I really don't know what is.
Fact.
Indeed...
...more hooky than anything Flowers has written.
...
This is does make for a rather good "come let out your Monday morning aggression here" thread.
hmmm
brandon needs to avoid ripping off bruce springsteen says black
I'm not really a fan of either....
...but whenever I see a busker or some lad at an open mic they are playing Street Spirit not idioteque or whatever its called.
Thom and co should write what they like. But I suspect the likes of Street Spirit will be their legacy after all. Maybe thats what they are afraid of?
uh
isnt that because street spirit is very easy to play and sing with just an acoustic guitar whereas idioteque requires a seriously strong voice and some serious instrumental reinterpretation? i mean duh?
how does Flowers know that?
is it there in his.. heeeaaartaaache?
I take it
Brandon has never listened to Radiohead at all, ever?
Or heard any of the new songs they're working on?
annoying thing about stuff like this
is that there really isn't that much 'electro-bleeping songwriting' on these supposedly electronic Radiohead albums anyway. Kid A has like 3 honest to god electronic tracks, including the Enoesque Treefingers, and the last album Hail To The Thief was basically guitar pop (and fantastic guitar pop at that)... weird how the press seems to have forgotten their own 'angle' on that album now i'm on the subject...
anyway, if you're going to be a miserable reactionary cunt at least react to the reality and not the myth, you know.
My god, calm down..
I read the interview, well a couple of pages then i got bored. It's a silly thing to say but the whole tone of the article was gushing. Hailing them to be one of the biggest and best bands in the world just now. The guy interviewing them was feeding all this stuff to him. I think it was a silly comment from a guy who has got a bit carried away with himself. Not a fan of The Killers but they shouldn't be motivating you all to react like this. My god they are not that significant.
I cant believe people
react like this to what is obiviosly a ploy to get talking about The Killers in ready for their new coming album.
Fell for it hook, line and sinker.
Killers new single is a guilty pleasure of mine.
I check to see if the album has leaked
like every 5 mins. I think it will be about the 41st best album of the year, if you ignore the ones released with a low budget PR campaign
no wait,
I didn't mean that at all!
Godnamit!
It would have to leak when i'm busy! darn Oakford opening and Sikth gig and suchforth. no wait why do i care? There are too many articles about the Killers on this darn website. stop it at once!
Entitled to his opinion i suppose
but will he still be writing 'pop songs' in his late 30s?
doubt it.
bye bye mr flowers.
he can't grow a moustache NOW though
there's an inch wide bald gap under his nose which makes him look like some kind of reverse-hitler.
Cheers for the advice Brandon
Now here's some for you. Try and make a whole album as good as the singles, then we'll talk.
yup
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh04O9-b2es
.
Look at you all getting so upset about something somebody you really shoudln't care about's opinions on Thom Yorke.
The Lostprophets singer probably doesn't like the Velvet Underground, but I'm not going to start shouting about it.
-
look at you getting annoyed at us getting annoyed.
i get annoyed about you getting annoyed at us but you dont hear me shouting about it.
wait...
Brandon Flowers
Good name though.
I'm confused because he seems to believe Thom Yorke used to write pop songs
I've never heard a single Radiohead track I'd describe as a 'pop song'. WTF?
maybe
high & dry
the bends
just
no surprises
there there
let down
Have you heard
The Bends and Pablo Honey?
Fair point?
I'm not cool and I openly like The Joshua Tree so I like the two new Killers songs I've heard.
But regardless, is what Flowers is saying really so controversial? I assume it means not having much interest in Radiohead post Ok Computer. I've heard a fair few people say as much, me included. Or is it the way he's saying it that is causing such anger?
I Might Be Wrong...
...but didn't this site give Kid A an extremly negative review? Flowers is an idiot but he's not exactly saying anything new.
hahah
"It’s a case of lets throwaway everything we've ever achieved, lets be something we're not, lets pretend we're radical and different and exciting and new, because we've lost the plot."
Was there like NO quality control with the reviewers a few years back?
fuck off and die.
I don't like Brandon Flowers...
...but I like him more than Thom Yorke.
Is it just me...
...or is it evident from the vocal performance/effect on 'When You Were Young' that Brandy Flowers REALLY likes 'Funeral' by Arcade Fire and now aims to sound as much like Win as possible. I suppose it suits him, he can cover up the hideous bum notes that turned every live performance you saw on TV of theirs into a cringe-fest with a bit of wobbly over emoted throat vibrato. What next? New Bravery album influenced by Tim Kashers vocal stylings? Ughh.
mmmmm
what were those words...'He doesn't look a thing like Jesus'...well @ the mo Brandon is spouting from a mountinous SoapBox and his facial hair is that of the Messiah?? questions???
He's a tedious little twat,
he needs to develop a personality of his own. I read that article and I think it says a lot about the Killers when you realise the most interesting thing he had to say was about someone else.
The new Bruce Springsteen?????
we didn't need the old one.
dick
Harrowdown Hill
has a more 'catchy' melody than anything this deluded prat has ever written. The response from the Yorke camp (assuming he's even aware of Flowers' insidious prattle) was probably limited to a wry smile and quiet utterance of 'bovvered' before he tucked into his boiled egg and earl grey, and got stuck into Play of the Day on Radio 4. Hence it's not really worth getting in a tizz about.
Boiled Egg?
Radio 4? No wonder he's not writing pop songs anymore....he's really 62 years old and John Humphries. I claim my prize.
all i can say is
wot a knob jockey that pubic faced brandon flowers is. he is so far up his own ass that he thinks he can comment let alone talk about thom yorke in any way. n the observer magazine should feel ashamed of themselves for printing such poo
Peter Gabriel wannabee
What a tit. He's a dirty fucking munter.
Arrogant, peter gabriel wannabee.
Fuck off Flowers
You're shit.
And
you smell of wee.
