Have you not had quite enough Coldplay recently? Do you sometimes jerk awake in a cold sweat when your nightmares remind you that a man as busy saving the world as Chris Martin is can’t possibly be musically productive enough to churn out enough albums to save you from going Cold(play) Turkey? Are you reduced to begging on street corners for stray scraps of face-twistingly emotive vocals and fragments of those guitar lines which’re as ineffectually insistent as a rubber drill?

Well, fear not: Fell City Girl have come to save you with their limply epic guitar histrionics! The drums thrash sparsely and dully around the beat; the guitars waver hysterically when they’re not plinking irritatingly; and the vocals engage in some frankly unnatural high-pitched screeching contortions. They thud, they whine, they riff, they holler, they generally make it quite clear that they really, really mean it.

Which is, technically, good: more people should really, really mean things. But desperate emotional theatrics aren’t enough to compensate for a lack of the other good things one requires of one’s music. Y’know: hooks which are catchy rather than clingy; a bit of inventiveness and imagination; something approximating to joy de vivre and/or edginess, angular rage and grit. And all of these are distressingly absent here.

Have I said enough? Can I stop listening to this now? Good.

This review is.....

....more evidence that DiS writers know how to use the copy and paste function on their computers.

Well, its a good thing me and only 100 other people on this planet will read this.

Or else your review would, you know, actually mean something.

Still, least you did bother to review it. Unlike anyone else. Which I guess is why I still continue to read DiS "reviews".

Mmmm

So where has this review been copied from?

I really am not into Fell city Girl, I find it all a bit dull. Now I really like alot of what they quote as their influences but this doesn't even come close, it's derivative. Please move on and do something more interesting.

holliy is one of my top 3

DiS writers. I like this review.

fell city girl

are soooooooooooo bad

i've seen them twice as well :(

I agree..

..with morematey. This girl has blatently made up her mind before even listening to it. Just look at her profile 'wont go to see anything i dont like'

at least get someone objective to review it. DiS thought you're better than this. Obviously not!!

This EP is a cracker and see them live before you make up your mind (unlike some)

No

you are wrong it is bad.
It is post-rockish, it is done in the style of some post-rock bands they like.
Like "lets do this in the style of a waltz" well this time they choose "post-rock" without understanding the implications of what that fully entails, so what you get is this lite version complete with saccarin vocal. No real depth, nothing challenging at all.
I have seen them live.

yeah well

i like this song. it really aint post rock dude, in the same way that it aint jazz, or dubstep. its just a nice song. chill out

What's with all the 'post-rock' outcry?

Where and at what point did Fell City Girl claim to be post-rock? Just because they have a few post-rock influences doesn't mean they want/intend to make post-rock music themselves.

Im a massive post-rock fan, but I still love this song. Yeah, ok it's had a few 'record label edits' applied to it to make it a little more radio friendly, but that's a small sacrifice that some bands have to make sometimes to be able to pay the bills. When they do it live they still play it the way it was intended, so fair do's to them.

And why oh why are people so intent on dragging down the vocal's because they are 'emotional'?! Maybe something large past over my head at high speed, but I always thought that was a good thing?

Here is a band with an extremely talented singer and people want to slag him off because he's good - Im just so confused. How many other of todays 'bands' (if you can call them that) actually have anyone with a shred of musical talent in their bones?

Oh and as for the Coldplay references - yes the chords and melody are very similar to 'fix you' that's obvious. But I know for a fact that this song was written before 'Rush of blood to the head' was even released.

Unfortunate? Yes.
Plaigarism? No.
Fell City Girl? Of Course.

WHAT???

DiS, your gay!! Ive listed and followed Fell City Girl for a few years and I love thier stuff. I like it, you may not, but there is no why you should review this song taking into account that people actually like it.

This is one of my favorite songs ive heard so along time! catch, emotional music from a talented band, and if you dont like it, you can shove it up your arse while i play it more and more to piss you off!

Wrong

This is great. The main difference between coldplay and this band is that this band have far more powerful songs, and have a truly exceptional singer. Sorry but they are one of the best bands around right now.
