Its weird. I love fabulous muscles. Its the only xiu xiu ive got, but I love it. Weirdly, ive never been that bothered about buying anything else of theirs.

I barely ever listen to Fabulous Muscles now, so much of their stuff is like 1000x better, I think.

then get that album.
if you don't like that then you won't like the rest as it is their most 'accessible' album.
the majority of the rest is very 'avant garde'. that album has the mosty melody and cohierency i think.
all of it is pretty good though.

Alot of people have nothing good to say about La Foret but I think it's an excellent album. Especially 'Muppet Face' such and excellent song.
But yeah, A promise is where it's at. It's got Xiu Xiu in pop mode, quiet accoustic mode, weird noise mode and fuck lot else.
I find A promise a lot harder to get into!
I <3 Xiu Xiu. I haven't heard La Foret, though.

Fabulous Muscles is the best and the most accessible. It's a violently emotional album like all his work, but has the most obvious melodic sense. Then get A Promise, which is almost as good.
I still don't have Knife Play but it's meant to be amazing and the couple of songs I've heard from it back that up. La Foret is ok, the new one is pretty good.

I don't
really get La Foret for some reason. Baby Captain, Pox and Bog People are brilliant though. The rest just seems to... sort of not go anywhere really. Also the lyrics on La Foret don't hit me like the ones on A Promise and Fabulous Muscles, but I can't put my finger on what's missing.

Xiu Xiu live
are quite something. Saw them in Berlin with Final Fantasy. Jamie looks like the angriest PE teacher you've ever seen. Caroline simpers, hottly. They spit sweat. It's carthartic times 1000. i loved it. i would have cried if i hadn't had such a shit view.

Personally I'd recommend going for The Air Force after Fabulous Muscles. Not to slight the rest of the back catalogue, but I'm really enjoying that album right now.

La Foret is practically my favourite Xiu Xiu album, I can't understand why it is such underrated.
The Air force is also really good. Definately not their best but still really good.
