there hasn't been an electronic music thread in ages

which is largely my fault as i usually am the one that makes them and i've barely listened to techno lately.

BUT

there's some stuff out that's been ace.

The new DC Recordings compilation "Death Before Distemper" is excellent, it's full of kraut-disco and post-punk influenced dark disco type affairs.

Kompakt Total 7 was pretty good, although i'm not really so interested in Kompakt any more.

what i am interested in is minimal though, and there's a new LP out by Marc Houle called "Bay of Figs" that's really quite excellent and i'd buy it if i had the money for sure.

there's apparently an upcoming compilation called "Silverbird Casino" although i can only find info about the Villalobos/Henrik Schwarz 12" from it... the Villalobos track is great.

but it's apparently nothing on the 40 minute long song he's made for Playhouse coming out soon which allegedly has odd gypsy samples on it and i can't wait.

the recent SebastiAn 12" "Ross Ross Ross" is awesome.

why does the new Squarepusher album have so much slap bass on it? It's like Seinfeld gone acid d&b. I like bits of it.

the new Venetian Snares EP is really nice, it's got some oriental sounding melodies on it.

the new mix by Cassy called "Panoramabar01" because she's a resident there and stuff is really, REALLY good and reminds me that i should go to Berlin. It's minimal, WOW.

I think there's some new Audion out soon.

I need to hear the new Melchior 12" on Perlon.

I still fucking love the Melchior/Luciano stuff from earlier this year. But not as much as i love "Achso" by Villalobos which is still the best minimal record i've ever heard.

there IS some new audion out soon \o/

i got his ellen allen split a few weeks ago, the audion remix of 'just a woman' is rather good.

and i bought achso after we spoke about it a while back. it's so incredibly good. i'm still hearing new bits now.

according to the people who've heard it

the new 40 minute thing is even better, as it's basically "Achso" all in one go with stranger samples.

he played it in Fabric and it "pwned", but i can't afford fabric, let alone enjoy it on my own surrounded by pillheads with too much hair gel.

i'm getting impatient about it now.

:(

luciano is playing this: http://www.thewarehouseproject.com/line-ups/

and nobody will go with me as they're either "too poor" or "not listening to THAT".

unless it's that reggae luciano again, following me round and TRICKING ME.

i'd go if it wasn't in manchester......

i'm unsure as to what state i'd have to be in to dance to minimal for 5 hours though, really.

i really want to go to Berlin...

I bought an Autechre CD the other day

I'm now officially an expert on electronic music.

:(

It was Tri Repetae ACTUALLY. That makes two electronic albums in three months I've bought.

Trying to wean myself off indie pop isn't working that well though, in that time I've bought about twelve guitar albums.

There's been very little

electronica I've wanted to get this year. I've been wanting to get Achso for ages but can't afford it yet.

The Junior Boys album is the only thing I've listened to recently and it's not as good as I thought it would be (yet).

I think i might be the only one that loves the junior boys album.

I'm just a sucker for their basslines, and all the lushness over the top. And stuff.

Ascho is still amazing, yes.

I think it's very good, in parts

but other parts just seem a bit too polished and, although it's quite lush, it feels a little cold. Also, having heard In the Morning, I was hoping more of it would be as danceable as that, which it's not. This is only on three listens though, so I'll keep you updated if my opinion changes!

And

Can somebody please lend me Achso until I can afford to buy it? Please? x

Please?

I know where you live.

I'm coming round to get it.

No.

(I'll YSI it when i can, foo'.)

Thank you, I like you again.

Maybe a little too much.

i know.

i can feel it.

i'd love to

but i ain't posting it. it's about a fiver on beatport if you fancy downloading it though.

Don't worry,

It was directed more at the momo's who live fairly near me.

i also think

the junior boys album is incredible... like a more considered hot chip

It is quite like hot chip

If they were cool and not so nerdy.
I like the first JB album as well, mostly because they got a garage producer to do the beats.

I haven't heard the new squarepusher.

People keep saying it's good, and I don't believe them yet. Especially now you've said it has slap bass... that kind of IDM doesn't really interest me so much these days anyway.

Ross Ross Ross if excellent. I can't get enough of that parisian electro type stuff at the moment. Have you heard Surkin? I thought 'Radio Fireworks' was awful when I first heard it, but now it's grown on me. It's bascially the same vocal sample looped all the way through the track but glitched up in lots of different ways. tis FUNKY.

Ditto on Kompakt 7, I thought it was pretty good. It sounds the same as the other 6. I love the 'Over the Ice' by The Field, it's so hypnotic. Although I'd heard that quite a long time before I heard the rest of the compilation.

I don't really know what else to add... I quite like the Various Production album. It sounds like a dubstep version of massive attack, except they put a couple of boring acoustic guitar type tracks in, which seems completely pointless and ruins it somewhat. But yeah, otherwise GOOD.

is Radio Fireworks still SebastiAn?

i need to pay more attention to Ed Banger and it's ilk...

i haven't done the whole 'scour every blog i can find' thing for aaaaaaaaages.

Radio Fireworks is Surkin

Srsly, you should use bloglines:

http://bloglines.com

I just subscribe to every good blog I find and then it saves having to trawl them all the time. It's about as organised as my life gets.

i need a new hard drive first.

is that still up on any blogs?

hype machine is being slow here for some reason...........

um

dunno.
I'll YSI it.

Can someone please do that with Achso?

Please?

I'll be nice when I next see you.

it's ALL about

the new Holden LP on Border Community. Fucking mindblowing.

it better be.

so far this year, electronic producers with boring names have disappointed me.

'James Holden' is no 'Troy Pierce' or 'Jimmy Edgar'.

Morris Nightingale

is cooler than Jimmy Edgar.
I'm guess neither are his actually name.

I'm looking forward to the

James Holden LP, when's it out?

early December

it fucking owns.

first ever contriubtion to an "electronic" thread

i like the new I Am A Robot And Proud album alot. it makes me smile.

Death before Destemper is very good...

but even better from DC recordings is the Emperor Machine's compilation type album Vertical Tones and Horizontal Noise which is fantastic and well I don't know what else to say apart from it's kraut inspired synth disco which makes me dance a lot.

The new Venetian Snares EP is ace, and golly I haven't listened to Melchior/Luciano in a while, time to rectify that one...

Emperor Machine

couldn't really be any better in my mind.

Kraut-disco.
KRAUT-DISCO.
KRAUT-DISCO!

By new audion did you mean Mouth to Mouth?

They've got the A side up here:
http://shotcallin.blogspot.com/2006/09/life-saver-notice-lack-of-sexy-girl-in.html
I hadn't heard it before but it sounds pretty awesome.
Everything Matthew Dear does is brilliant.

I lived in Berlin earlier this year

Went to PanoramaBar LOTS. It's the most epic place i've ever been to. A bit like the end of Terminator 2 (the molten lava industrial bit) and a bit like the last round of Gladiators (the travelator, hang tough, John Anderson rrrrrrrrrrready).

So yes! You-deserve-to-go-to-berlin

because it is not of this world

i think berlin melted my mind a little so i've only just got back into Out Hud, Juan Maclean and, er, Eels? No.

cheers

for making me feel REALLY JEALOUS and FAR TOO EXCITED in my PANTS.

Question:

How do you afford all these records etc? Do you trade in uranium stocks by any chance?

i don't afford them at all.

i steal them off of the internet.

SOULSEEK AHOY

I think we need a dance music DiS

I got a nice compilation called 'Monika spielt Domino in den City Centre Offices'. Which I think is out on Domino soon. Assorted germanic electropop shtick.

Other than that I'm a bit out of touch. Need to get on SSX

Calude VonStroke = woo

The Claude VonStroke album is gooooood.

I am getting slightly bored by minimal these days though... there hasn't been as much dance music you can like, er, dance to come out this year - i want something heavy!

buy the mekon album

it even trips off into hard house a co0uple of times... it's err..... HEAVY

A quick big up to my boy Metronomy

loving metronomy at the moment.

The new album is grea.

I want the new junior boys album so badly

also...

this friday metronomy and foals are playing hoxton bar and kitchen or whatever it is called.

Who's coming?

ooh.

i might.

FOALS!

METERONOMY!

.

I'm listening to a lot of;

Set In Sand
d_rradio
Bannister Boy
Ryan Francesconi
DoF
Belong
Birdy Nam Nam
Wixel
Helios
French Teen Idol
Susumu Yokota & Rothko

If you'd call that electronic.

Birdy Nam Nam

were absolute poop when I saw them. Plus I was drunk and that usually makes music of that kind seem a bit more enjoyable in my head.

I have been listening to Frog Pocket (on planet mu, good but not hugely exciting) and I like the sound of
http://www.myspace.com/yanniskyriakides

I only found him because he collaborated with a guitarist I like though. Lame.

DON'T SAY SUCH THINGS ;'(((!

Oh, and i've been listening to a lot of basic channel stuff as well.

omgh.

I'm still listening to Four Tet's 'Everything Ecstatic'

I'm really behind with Electronic music. Bu

I almost forgot...

New Isolée 12"!
Has anyone got it?
Anyone know where the hell you can buy it?
It's called "Hermelin", I only have the A side on mp3, but it's GOOD.

have 1 point.

okay... 10.
I never even knew such things existed.
(YSI them please? :))

<3

ha ha haaaaaa

:D

i don't HAVE to send you "Achso".

that's not very nice.

poor bobby :(
i like you, bobby.
what's the french for va va voom?

Thanks wishpig.

you're the one who matters anyway.

:D

if i had achso, i would send you it.

i just have the a side too

(hype machine \o/)

the only place i can see the vinyl is here: http://www.triplevision.nl/release/PLAYH+130/

phat-ass p&p, probably. it'll be in piccadilly records soon.

I might ask in sounds of the universe

they are all-knowing.
Oh yeh... I'm also enjoying new alex under's "Multiplicanciones".
I am such a sucker for his stuff, even though it's bascially just very typical minimal. His beats are really heavily swung in a way that they just skip along.
'El Verano' is one of my favourite minimal tracks ever though.

i've actually never eaten that.

i imagine it's like mustard. true?

i just spread it on records.

its like pickle, but yellow!!!!!!!

and more mustardy, yes.
it looks like puke but it tastes SO good.

i literally don't understand how you manage to listen to so much new stuff

what's wrong with me?
i've only listened to Faith, Void and Junkplanet for the last few days, with the occasional myspace track thrown in.

it's called

'terminal unemployment'

as well as

'being slightly autistic (i think)'

and the others.

lulz.

Well...

it's not a bad 3 band line-up really.

I'm quite liking Mekon at the moment

Boy Bitten is pretty cool

That Claude Vonstroke tune - Deep Throat - is fucking weird. Worth a listen

Really liking SebastiAn. I'm starting to think that Ed Banger can do no wrong

I don't have much Brazilian Girls stuff, but what I do have I like

Yuksek is pretty cool, if nothing original

I like Goose

Does It Offend You, Yeah? are fucking ACE. I've fallen for them in a big way. Didn't realise they only formed like three months ago either. You may hear me trapping on about them for quite a while yet

Metronomy = lovely. The album really rewards repeated listens

The Trentmoller remix of his own song Always Something Better is never far away from the click of my mouse lately

Couple of Boys Noize tracks/remixes, then stuff like Midnight Juggernauts, Van She and the other fairly accessible Modular-type stuff

The Fujiya & Miyagi album is actually quite brilliant

I do like the new Junior Boys album, but it can get a little samey. I know that's a popular criticism, but I do agree. It's still a pretty fine album though

Then older stuff like Alter Ego, Booka Shade etc

And Datarock are FUN

agreed on fujiya & mitagi

are you coming to metronomy on friday?
