Neal Casal wrecked last night's gig. He was bad enough on Saturday (although probably just harmlessly dull). But last night he was such an arrogant arse - bating the crowd and generally destroying the atmosphere by the time Ryan & The Cardinals came on (nearly an hour late). Ryan and Neal both acted like spoilt brats. Looks to me like they were also hugely hungover (compared to th energy of Sat night). Grow up you fuckwits. The music is awesome - pity you can't carry it through and give a really good all round show ........
as for neal, whenever i've seen him he has been a gentleman. i'll take a wild guess that the audience was chatting loudly during his set whilst he was trying to play reasonably quiet acoustic/piano songs?
Problem was that he started abusing the audience BEFORE he even started (as well as all the way through). And he totally outstayed his welcome - playing for almost an hour. Just didn't feel much like a support act. Made worse by the relentless plugging of his 8 albums - and flyers of his stuff on all seats.
I am a HUGE fan. The gig wasn't a wasted opportunity, but sure wasn't a fulfilling experience. It was actually quite interesting to see how their sulkiness (both Ryan and Neal) affected the set - which was much less boisterous than Saturday. Tell you one thing - next time Neal Casal is the support act, I'm waiting in the pub til the real thing starts!
people think its actually very cool to go to see Ryan Adams rather than actually enjoying one of his shows. They forget the fact that he spews out an utter load of crap every time.
last night was total rubbish. so so boring.
i am not saying he should stand there and play Gold, but at least play sojme of the more popular songs to appease the audience, not just those mad huge fans who have their heads stuck as far up their own arses as ryan himself
i am still mad that i went
he was a nasty twat at the end too.
just cos mognol told him he liked his cardy, is that really a reason to shout FUCK OFF back and strop off stage like a spoilt brat
I agree with Stokielad wholeheartedly. Neal Casal completely ruined the vibe of the gig and overstayed his welcome. Due to the 11pm curfew, that means we got much less of the Ryan and the Cardinals than the night before (thank God I went to both nights).
Sick, hungover or whatever, Ryan was more mellow last night, which I really liked. However, I was so pissed off by NC's self-indulgent crap that I found it hard to feel the love for the main act.
Note to other bands -- don't let your wanky guitarist (with several solo albums, as he reminded us more than once during the set) be your support. It's just annoying.
thing is that casal was fantastic in his role as vocalist and guitarist with the cardinals. it's just the interminably long time that we had to put up with his warbling before then .......... OK I'm done bitching about him now.
Yep, that was a hoot. I would normally cringe for the poor sod being booed - but he deserved it! His ego completely sank the evening. Oops - I said I was gonna stop bitching ............
Oh my god - we kept suggesting that he needs a "Queer Eye for the straight guy" make-over! And ......... he was wearing the same clothes on both nights.
At least Ryan Adams Really IS a rock star, so you can kinda excuse the petulant behaviour (tortured genius and all that). But Casal is just a wannabe, last night he rose WAY above his station methinks. Never dreamed I'd find myself heckling my fave artist ......
as saturday, there was absolutely no excuse for certain elements of the crowd. thus, i took great delight in shouting abuse at the tosspot at the end shouting about how he wanted his money back.
in all honesty, the crowds at both london shows seemed to be full of utter morons. i can see why shows in london have such a bad rep, really.
bush hall crowd was good. borderline had a high percentage of cunts, as did cambridge. but, y'know, whenever you have a large-ish group of people together in a social situation then you're always gonna get cunts...
chucked someone out of one of his american shows for shouting that. chucked a bundle of cash at them too apparently before physically picking the person out of their seat!
Touchy!
the guy who had shouted it had interrupted a three-part vocal harmony between ryan, gillian welch and someone else (david rawlings maybe) to make what was never a particularly funny joke in the first place.
Yeah, sounds like Ryan
I really wish I'd seen him :-(
I'm sorry
I've been an avid Ryan Adams fan for many years now, last night was my ninth Ryan show and, for the first time - I left before the end.
Ryan's complete lack of kineticism, coupled with the slack musicianship, self-indulgent bullshit made me so incredibly upset.
I saw him play two perfect solo shows, not 14 days ago. Last night broke my heart and not in the traditional, beautiful Ryan Adams way.
Rubbish.
What a farce

i thought that ryan
was ill and had to see a doctor, hence lateness.
as for neal, whenever i've seen him he has been a gentleman. i'll take a wild guess that the audience was chatting loudly during his set whilst he was trying to play reasonably quiet acoustic/piano songs?

Oh, so he was genuinely a crock of shite?
I thought people were just annoyed by his rambling and muttering and stuff.
I guess I'm not so sad I missed this gig then!!!
Moody bastards

i have come to the conclusion that
people think its actually very cool to go to see Ryan Adams rather than actually enjoying one of his shows. They forget the fact that he spews out an utter load of crap every time.

If you've made 8 solo albums
and have had no real success by now, it's time to fuck off and try something else. Like juggling chainsaws.
EXACTLY!
I mean, honestly! That man needed to be escorted off stage. He was INFURIATING.
stick to what you do best
thing is that casal was fantastic in his role as vocalist and guitarist with the cardinals. it's just the interminably long time that we had to put up with his warbling before then .......... OK I'm done bitching about him now.
it was funny tho....
i have never heard so many people shouting for someone to get off the stage - ever!
get off!
Yep, that was a hoot. I would normally cringe for the poor sod being booed - but he deserved it! His ego completely sank the evening. Oops - I said I was gonna stop bitching ............
he's
got the worst hair in the world ever too.
Make-over
Oh my god - we kept suggesting that he needs a "Queer Eye for the straight guy" make-over! And ......... he was wearing the same clothes on both nights.
I went...
...and it was rubbish. You're all right.
I did talk a lot and annoy people around me.
I also fell over.
And the clothes...
Please, please, please. You are a rock star. Change your clothes! Can you imagine how they must have smelled by the second night? EEEEEWWWWW!
I guess
it didn't help that Ryan had John Cusack on drums, Bill Gates on steel guitar and a fat Jack White on bass.
Rock star
At least Ryan Adams Really IS a rock star, so you can kinda excuse the petulant behaviour (tortured genius and all that). But Casal is just a wannabe, last night he rose WAY above his station methinks. Never dreamed I'd find myself heckling my fave artist ......
damn
I'm so glad I went on Saturday.
In other news: thoughts on Look Who Got A Website? Rap has a new king.
kevin bacon what the fuck?
.
Ryan Adams, lol.
lucky i went
on saturday night and missed mr casal, double bonus for me!
while sunday wasn't as good
as saturday, there was absolutely no excuse for certain elements of the crowd. thus, i took great delight in shouting abuse at the tosspot at the end shouting about how he wanted his money back.
in all honesty, the crowds at both london shows seemed to be full of utter morons. i can see why shows in london have such a bad rep, really.
guntrip....
i was there and i am not a moron!
i was referring to
the people on both nights shouting stupid comments. there seemed to be plenty of them.
oh...
'those' people.....!!
Banned
I expressed similar views to this thread on ryanadams.org .... and was promptly banned! So much for musicocracy .........
i noticed
that too - there were about 3 "rubbish gig" threads and all of a sudden there were none!
My sister actually refuses to see Ryan Adams
cos she thinks too many morons turn up to his shows. She saw him at Sheperds Bush in 2001, I think, and hasn't seen him again since.
they don't *still*
shout 'hilarious' requests for 'summer of 69' do they?
your sister does have a point
bush hall crowd was good. borderline had a high percentage of cunts, as did cambridge. but, y'know, whenever you have a large-ish group of people together in a social situation then you're always gonna get cunts...
out of the three big shows i went too
the crowds in cambridge were charming compared to shepherd's bush.
he
chucked someone out of one of his american shows for shouting that. chucked a bundle of cash at them too apparently before physically picking the person out of their seat!
Touchy!
Well there has to be only so many times
he could've put up with that "hilarious" request before it gets really fucking annoying.
It's the only
reason I'd go.
I'm easily pleased.
because
the guy who had shouted it had interrupted a three-part vocal harmony between ryan, gillian welch and someone else (david rawlings maybe) to make what was never a particularly funny joke in the first place.
haha
Bryan Adams.
the messageboard equivalent of that joke:
http://dartsinfo.nl/imagetest/bobby%20george.jpg
LOLLLLLLLLLLLL
haha
Bobby George.
I wanted him to play...
...the one from Robin Hood. That was a corker.
