Fans Of Kate: I Don't Know What To Do With My Hands

I love Fans Of Kate. They’re great. Great because they – Jez, Jamie, Nick, Steve and Raphael - , actually look like a band, boast a work ethic which sees them playing the outer most limits of the known universe (like, say, Harlow) and sound like a head on collision between ‘Pablo Honey’ - era Radiohead and The Killers but boasting a very British sensibility.

This is a good thing: and so is ‘I Don’t Know What To Do With My Hands’, an absolute corker of a song which, despite the unwieldy title, deals with a very simple thing: living through the week to get to the weekend, and surely we all know how that feels.

See, there’s nothing complicated about Fans Of Kate: they write brilliant pop songs. That’s it. ‘I Don’t Know…’ is that very thing but just to underline the point Fans’ have thrown in the lovelorn ‘A Brief Guide To Coward Rock’, here in mere demo form, sounding as glorious as the finished article does live. Now that’s just showing off.

I love Fans Of Kate, and by the time you’ve heard ‘I Don’t Know…’ so should you.

whats this sites bone with harlow? bloody hell!

and why are we now copying the rubbish nme with comparisons to pablo honey... this is everything radiohead arent (except for bad) - a few octave riffs on guitar doesnt make brillian pop wrist cutting introspection.

First off, Fans of Kate played at my students union and were shite, utter shite, boring middle of the road indie, second of all; thats where the killers comparisons end, bringing in radiohead into it is sheer stupidity. They're obviously the only two records the reviewer owns.

as a rule i wouldn't get the bands PR man to write a review but its not my website, so hey, whatever

Maybe i shouldn't of posted but i thought that people other than band members, or friends of band members should be represented here

i do believe they were called Reagan but I neglected to mention it in the review (possibly because I had a mountain of CDs to wade through :)

yes they were, and i put them on at the barfly for that infamous (?) DiS xmas party in 2003 (that seems so long ago) with some bands we've never heard of since called youthmovie soundtrack strategies and bloc party.

there was much rejoicing.

I have their song 'with the current' on my harddrive since a long time. Very good track.
Are the Fans of Kate songs the same or have they change their sound with their name ?

OK, lets clear this up...

1) surely one of the main things a review should do is give you an idea of what the track is like, any other comments are only oppinion and wouldnt be shared by the majority of people. and i dont need to know anything, im sure i know more about this band/record than you.

2) i dont what what student uni they were rubbish at, they have always had a great reception whenever i have seen them and they always have good feedback on their message board so it seems thats a silly comment to make.

3) the same people used to be in a band before FoK, but they began to write different songs and after a period of down time they relaunched with a new set of songs sounding rather different.

First track is really good.
Can't say the same thing about the 2 B-sides.
