Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
Posted: 11 Apr '05, 16:32
Anyway, Brandon Flowers, he of The Killers fame, has been speaking to US mag Rolling Stone about audiences here and over there (over there being the US, you understand). And not about The Bravery. For once.
Flowers praised British crowds: "I think they appreciate music more in England because they're not as spoiled as we are, you know, with the movies and cars and toys."
Right... But Flowers still found time for a little poke at us Brits and our static ways.
"We have a song called 'Midnight Show' and in America they love it. In England they don't move at all. What's wrong with them?"
Taste, maybe? Okay, so she had a boyfriend? And The Bravery are huge? But they're a tribute band, right? No? What the fuck is this world coming to...?

What, is Britain a third world country compared to the US?
"We have a song called 'Midnight Show' and in America they love it. In England they don't move at all. What's wrong with them?"
Maybe cause it's proberbly shit and we have a bit of common sense ;-)
CUNT!!!-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
He's right, he's not saying Britain is some kind of ghetto state but that those in the US have way more commercial greed to respond to. It is however the only time I will say Brandon Flowers is correct: I back up the assertion that he's a cunt of the highest order. -
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
How dare we not recognise the genius of The Killers? What's wrong with us?
What a twat. -
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move

I've noticed watching several live videos and recordings of bands that American audiences seem far more dull and static than other nations' audiences. Strange, but it's only the small club shows in which people seem to go ape.
Probably to do with the heinous ticket prices of larger shows over there, and who can afford them I s'pose... -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
What a cock. As if we didn't know that already from his shitty fucking songs and his shitty fucking band.
I have an endless well of wrath for the (wanky) Killers. They really get my proverbial goat. Until it grows vampiric goat fangs and chases them around internet messageboards hounding their every note and word.
You hear that, Killers?
YOU MADE MY GOAT GROW FANGS. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
is it me or is this band sounding exactly like when the strokes first came out with all their "WERE GUNA SHAG UR DAUGHTERS!..& DRINK COPIUS AMOUNTS OF BEER! AV IT!"...."its just a phase, brandon will be dead soon" :) -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
i love the killers.....if you dont like mr brightside, you are either a liar or dead, or both.-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
Or have decent taste.
I've just realised, The Bravery is the worst band name I have ever heard. It's made even worse by the shiteness of the band.
-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
brandon is a CUNT -

You mean like The Arcade Fire? Patrick Wolf? The Dresden Dolls? Those kind of bands?-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
Who've probably sold about 20 albums in total.
Thanks, next?-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
Yes Braincare, because I always hear the Dresden Dolls and Patrik Woman on Radio 1 with their highly acclaimed singles and albums/festival appearances...

yes the bravery are shity. so are the killers. not to be mistaken with the kills who are rather good. that song by the bravery that i cant think of the name, does anyone watch mtv2 at like, 6 in the morning. they put it on every single day on every 3rd song, with 4 kicks and holiday. and little sister. except KOL they are the shittyest songs in the history of shit on early morning tv. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
you've gotta admit tho, dude is sharp....he has some great suits, and accordingly to this article, to top it off - hates the british (although all he's really saying is that we didnt dance to some song - but hey if you wanna twist the ass off it, go ahead!) so he's ok by me.....-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
WHAAAAAA....?
I suppose you danced to this when my back was turned on Saturday night?

Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
no...but id did dance to it in a gay club on thursday night......hamming it up like a queen.......so go figure -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
Last time I saw Flowers, I cock-slapped him right in the face. Weirdly, he didn't even move. He just returned my ownage with an icy-ass grin. Man, he's cold...and indie n' shit. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
They are the most boring, unintresting interview-ees in the world but can't fault the music at all... -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
ya know i was with my gf (who isnt really into one genre of music) n 'smile like you mean it' came on. she said to me 'why do people like this sort of music' and i couldnt think of one reason why anyone would.
can you? -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
now smile like you mean it IS a good song. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
"Flowers praised British crowds"
- no, mike, he didn't:
"I think they appreciate music more in England..."
- he praised English crowds.
"But Flowers still found time for a little poke at us Brits and our static ways."
- no, mike, he didn't:
"In England they don't move at all. What's wrong with them?"
- he had a little poke at the english. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
from my experience of major label gigs with famous bands, UK crowds are shit and either don't move or move far more than is appropriate ie moshing to pop. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
We made The Killers - why is it that American indie bands almost always make it big over here before reaping the rewards back home? It's because England has created or hosted the greatest musical talents of the last 50 years. Hendrix would never have made it without Chas Chandler and the British public, and Flowers would never have made it without us either. Furthermore, Midnight Show is the worst song on an otherwise excellent album. America is bogged down by shit R & B and whiney punk, and it is no surprise they fail to distinguish between an anthem such as Somebody Told Me and the directionless Midnight Show.

Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
Or because the UK takes a lot less time to tour and has a national radio network?
-
-
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
Haha, I remember when I saw them at the NME tour thing. They opened with 'Midnight Show', and he got a bottle thrown at his keyboard. heh.
That's all I have to say. HEH.
"they don't move at all"
Wait, THEY don't move at all at their live shows. They are the dullest live band ever. The were pretty tight but, they just stood there completely expressionless. I've seen more life in a graveyard. I bet a party with the pope would be more exciting than seeing the killers live.
I quite liked their album though, so BLEH. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
indie kids don't dance.
good lord! a revelation! -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
i enjoy a good blast of the killers every now and then. brandon does seem like a twat but this is because he is emulating his idol Morrissey who is the world's biggest twat. I think DiS is trying to twist this story a little by just stating in its headline that Mr. Flowers called us Brits boring. He did not call us boring. He said we are better than the Yankee crowds. He only said we don't move in 'Midnight Show'. However, in my experience of seeing the Killers live earlier this year, people did move to Midnight Show.-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
... and now, back to Diver in the studio.

Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
i'm bored of the killers and the bravery now...please something other than 80s revival now. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
“They definitely like different songs. Like, we have a song called ’Midnight Show’ and in America they love it. In England they don't move at all. What's wrong with them?”
thats all he said they like different songs.
Talking to Rolling Stone, the singer was asked “Who's more fun to play to: American or British crowds?” and Flowers quickly came down on the side of the Brits.
he said that he prefers us,
not sure im happy with the level of spin in this here article. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
People don't move to Midnight Show because it's a weak filler on an otherwise great album.-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
Fuck, it's on the album? It must be weak, because I didn't even realise that :|
-
-
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
ye so i think a lot have shit has been stired over a pretty boring article. We're more fun and ave good sence in music, they like 'midnight show'.
i pride myself on good music taste something which i cultivated alongside my move collection and my frankly wild aray of toys -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I read an American review of a BSP gig (in the US) last year and it said that the bands british fans were 'drinking gallons of ale and jumping up and down' as if it was a strange thing to do at a concert. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I think he's right about our crowds. A quick example; the live videos of Bloc Party song Banquet. Great song, so dance about! Everyone just stands there, a few nodding their head. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I agree. I frickin' hate it when I go see a band and everyone's so fucking repressed and buttoned-up that they can't express their enjoyment of the music with even a mild foot tap. I detest the way the "cool indie" kids seem to prefer looking miserable and unmoved to jumping around and enjoy their fully-functioning, beautiful, lithe limbs. Music and dance are inextricably bound together. Ok, it's not good to tango to Gregorian chant, but where there's a driving rhythm and pulse you can feel - give in to the natural urge to move. After all - it's vertical foreplay - and who doesn't like that? ...er, I'll get my coat.-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move
Balls! Dancing is ridiculous. And even if it wasn't, why should anyone dance to the Killers? They're plop.

I don't get this Bravery/ Killers comparison. For my money...
- The Killers have had slightly better singles, but the second half of the album trails off.
- The Bravery's album is consistently good. I don't care if it's manufactured or not (it isn't). It's a great pop record.
- The Killers are pretty static and boring live. The Bravery put on a rock show.
- The Bravery don't sound like The Killers. They sound more like Hot Hot Heat.
- Brandon Flowers is an odd man (often a good thing in pop) but he's fallen into the mid-90s-Damon-Albarn trap of viewing other bands as a 'threat' and/or 'competition'. Grow up, Sir. Leave pointless slagging of 'the opposition' to politicians. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
He was having a joke. But the real Joke are The Bravery. We know that already. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at a
he's not a cunt. lighten up.
the killers and the bravery are much of a muchness. however, the bravery are so unbelievably interested in how they look they forgot to not be shit. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
The Bravery are more pastiche retro than the Killers. Least the Killers chose not to totally just sit back and decide they had 12 months shelflife. I arent really a fan of either, but can see Bravery have not much to offer, their album says that? -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
the bravery are dull, there single sounds like a gary numan rip. and i heard there lead singer saying that his band have never listend to 80 electro, well, either they did and they are lying or they are looking at the currant scene and trying to fit into it.
ive seen the killers live and i had a great time, the whole point of being a 'cool' indie kid is maybe to dress like you care but really all your interested in is getting down to a club and get ur cool threads covered in beer and sweat in the name of rock and roll, anything else is sickening. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I've also seen The Killers live (in the US) and when they did 'Midnight Show' we did, as Mr Flowers put it, "move" to the music. I haven't seen a concert in Britain, so I can't really compare. We had a good time at the show and I generally enjoy their music but I agree he makes some really dumb comments sometimes. Oh well, at least he looks good while he makes them. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
hes 22 for fucksake and his dreams have come true, i dunno about you, but as a 20 year old myself i say things that i later regret, and to be honest they are releasing a new single and people are talking. Any publicity... -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
is she really 22? -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I fucking hate this band. Fuck off. Patronising wanker. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
People who slag these bands miss the point. They are pop bands like duran Duran. but make no mistake they make great pop songs. Wouldn't you prefer to have a culture where pop is made by silly upstarts who are at least trying to make good music such as they rather than steps etc. Of course they are not going to be accepted as credible, serious musicians but what does that get you? Not money in the bank. I think the Bravery's album is a hell of a lot better than the Killers and they are less pretentious. Yes, they are suspicious but who cares. Perhaps if most bands cared less about being credible they would make better tunes. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
he's become a real nob head
i met him last june n he was alright then when i met on the nme tour he was a twat now he's a nobhead twat
n what's all this shit about us not havin cars, toys n movies....jesus

oh yeah...u became a nobhead
glad i got that off my chest
6 months n the kaiser chiefs will be nobheads -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
the kaiser chiefs are already nobheads [sic].
ricky pie wilson.
HAH. -

I just dislike how The Killers act asif they're something new and wonderful when they are rehased 80s pop.
Also Brandon Flowers called himself a 'gentle giant'.
And I heard a rumour that The Bravery's singer was in a ska punk band before the 80s pop revival... -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I'm from Germany and I went to a Killers show last November...I was so surprised about how chilled the indie crowd that showed up seemed, being used to the slightly more aggressive Good Charlotte crowd or even more crass, Stone Sour and Slipknot fans. However, some tall guy a few rows back decided to lurch forward during my favorite song, "Indie Rock & Roll" and proceeded to nearly crush me. I guess I sort of deserved it for underestimating the indie fans... ; ) -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
Okay it's fair enough that people don't like The Killers, I can respect that, but to the people labelling them and their music as 'shitty fucking songs' 'Brandon's a cunt' and 'They're plop', I really have to question your taste in music and your ability to differenciate between real music like The Killers and the other crap that's out there these days. The Killers make good, indie rock music and are loved and appreciated by a massive number of people, and there's no arguing that.-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I totally agree with Heather_Rooney. Everyone's going to have a different opinion. If you ask me, 50 Cent is a talentless dirtbag and it boggles my mind how he's maintained the #1 album in the US. And all Brandon was trying to say is that in Britain they just like different songs. All These Things I've Done might make the Brits move but maybe the Amercians don't move. Who knows. Ah what the fuck - I don't need to defend The Killers to anyone - you guys are the cunts... -
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
i totally agree with you. i am a fan of the killers and i think that everyone who is saying shit about them isnt really listening to them becauuse there music is good.
-
-
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
i think that the killers are an awesome band. i met them at a concert once and they were so nice. brandon is not a cunt. from what i have heard of the bravery they sound like shit. they try to hard. but the killers are not a bad band, and i think they have a really good sound n there songs are really good and have good sound. they are really good and i think that anyone who doesnt like them can kiss my ass. fuck the bravery. -
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
Even if Brandon Flowers is a cunt, I couldn't care less. I don't have deal with it--all I have to do is listen to the album and enjoy a good concert. It has absolutely nothing to do with his personality.
Also, it's silly to hate the Bravery because the Killers do. I can make up my own mind and I don't need someone to tell me who to like and who to despise.-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move
i don't think brandon is a cunt.
all i care about is that:
*he's hot
*he can sing
*he's part of a kick ass band
any of you who can't see that just need to buzz off
-
-
Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move at all."
I agree with nanamabob he is so hot, talented and sexy nd he was just referring to the one song for god sake and he did say he thought we appreciated music more, if the british are anything its that we r way 2 quick 2 judge people i also think he is extremely talented nd not just coz i think hes hot hes worked to get where he is nd he deserves the success i think they are a brilliant band i love their music and if u dont like indie music or u just dont like the killers piss off quite frankly ur wastin ur time nd there is a hell of a lot of people who do appreciate their music . by the way did he get married to his gf recently???-
Re: Brandon Flowers: "In England, they don't move
yes, unfortunately he did get married. =(
