Interpol do festival warm-ups
Posted:
Carlos, Paul and co. will be at Sheffield Octagon on June 20th and Manchester Apollo on July 8th.
The Sheffield show times with their Glastonbury appearance, while the Manchester show precedes their T in The Park slot.
in the same three-weeks, the band will be playing with Coldplay in Dublin and London and U2 in Glasgow. Heady times. But what will it be like seeing Interpol in daylight?

Can anyone say, "Who gives a fuck?" Can't anyone see through these guys???
Has anyone heard the one where Carlos "D" (very much in common with Chuck, just ask Flavor) tells countless interviewers that the group of incredible thinkers has never had a "band meeting" about the fact that they all wear neckties whilst performing.
All I can say is that I often try to imagine of how many bands are as phoney as this group of geeks. I knew Carlos before and and after Interpol. I saw as them perform at the begining when the rooms were filled with 100 people who stood in the room and didn't do much else but glance at the stage occasionally. They were and will always be just one of the worst collection of crashing bores to ever fool an audience of way too many.
I remember Carlos telling me something like, you should come, our singer isn't really that great. He's young and he's not exactly what we were looking for but, it's free so...
And if anyone ever wants a laugh, visit their website section, "FAQ's." I like the bit were it says, "Does Carlos ever D.J. parties?" Christ! -

Wow Mr JHoliday....that seems a little harsh. It might just be because they are my favourite band in the world at the moment (these things are of course always fluid), and i do appreciate that it's your opinion, but you might want to actually add that somewhere in future posts...
i can never understand why folk feel the need to pour vitriol out on boards like this, particularly regarding a band that has ostensibly done nothing wrong aside from being what they are.
In fact, Mr JHoliday, can you say 'deep seated issues and repressed rage'? -
Re: Interpol do festival warm-ups
you're probably right about them as people but they have made two excellent albums.
I really don't care what musicians are like as people. I know that many of them are dull, tedious, arrogant, smug, deluded, thick etc. and really couldn't care less what they have to say.
I would agree the music industry and the bands that work inside it often have a horribly cynical and "fake" approach which I really don't like.
but ultimately all that matters is the music that they make and I think Interpol are really good. A commercial and pretty mainstream band that actually make good music should be a happy thing. -
Re: Interpol do festival warm-ups
I completely agree with you. I actually have to say that you surprised me with your well... I dunno. I think I just expect that people largely trust what these people say is the truth.
I suppose as I watch their "careers" develop into whatever it will be for them. I will always just shake my head and never really get it. But you are absolutely right. Music is there to make us feel good. Until you had said that to me, I don't think I had really remembered that y'know.
Also, you made me think of Brett from Suede saying something to the effect that music is a very dumb thing.
So anyway, thanks for your post.

"Deep seated issues and..." oh right, "repressed rage"
Yeah, you're perfectly right Kat. There is absolutley nothing wrong with insulting your mates in order to appear better than them in the faces of others.
I beg your pardon, but baby you know nothing about me. -
Interpol do festival warm-ups
No, indeed i do not.
I assume the 'insulting your mates' thing refers to what carlos said to you - i see your point but it would be naive to assume that bandmates are necessarily good friends, or friends at all - especially if someone has joined the band at the invitation of one person in the band (as i think was the case with paul banks and interpol). Maybe carlos really didn't think he was right, and maybe he'd said that to the band. Anyway it must have all resolved it self at some point or i doubt they'd have made two albums!
You're totally within your rights not like them, but i do hope you have a band that you appreciate as much as i do interpol :) -

Re: Interpol do festival warm-ups
Peace Kat. I appreciate your futher comments to me. I will just say in response to what you just posted that I really think the label interest and then of course the money helped Carlos sort out whatever his deal was. Carlos was the second to last one in place, in the formation of Interpol. The last being the drummer of course. Carlos was asked to join if he would agree to play bass cos he was a guitarist, then the rest is history as they say.
Let us hope for your sake that they are all friends cos it would help for endless amounts of records, singles and gigs for you. - J

Dear Idlearse,
You fucking tit! You are much better suited to doing the best you can to do something else but attempt to think about what you think you know so much about.

I want the records and gigs <drool> but don't think singles work for interpol all that well...something about context. Can you imagine if the enemy (bad NME pun) got hold of your tale of carlos d woe? The music-tabloid histrionics would be priceless... -
Interpol do festival warm-ups
Kat,
You think? NME huh?...You know, I must say that I really don't know what their level of success is in the U.K.. I know that over here (New York)they play the same venues as say Nick Cave... which seems to ions ahead of where they were when last saw C. D..
To answer your question: I think that whatever they seem to touch turns from straw into gold. I so much wish now that we're taliking that we had the ability to travel back to one of their '98 or '99 shows. I'm sure the expeience would be 2 things for you...# 1 absolutely magical (not the travel bit, but you know what i mean) and #2 amazed at the amountt their producer (i forget his name) has been able to take something that was almost un - marketable to anyone, shake it up and come out with some undoubtedly really catchy and infectious songs. Incredible!
Take Care

I wish to FUCK that they were playing Leeds festival. I took a chance on a Leeds ticket ages ago, hoping that they would be playing and I don't have enough money to travel to fucking England to see them. I couldn't even afford to see them in Dublin! Belfast is like a black hole.
