Artists: Dinosaur Jr
Dinosaur Jr's classic proto-grunge anthem 'Freak Scene' is to be re-issued on CD and 7" this summer.

The song, backed by a re-mastered take on 'Bulbs Of Passion', will be released via Sweet Nothing on June 6th. It'll feature new artwork from Maura Jasper, who was responsible for the cover art of the band's eponymous debut, its follow up You're Living All Over Me and breakthrough album Bug. All three records were recently re-issued through the same Sweet Nothing label.

So yeah, buy it and dance like it's 1988.

Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

hopefully this may go some way to spreading the truth that dinosaur jr > the pixies x 1,000,000

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

you know that is not true, as much as i loved dinosaur jr, the pixies were obviously loads better.

i remember watching dinosaur jr at reading in '91 and thinking how boring they were live. can't say that about the pixies now can you?

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

And let's not forget the pixies were just a poor man's throwing muses.

I know very little about Dino Jr, except Lou Barlow used to be the bass player. Did he play on Freak Scene?

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

Yeah, to a point.
Although 'Bug' is more J's baby.

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

There was a classic lou Barlow interview recently where he was goin on about how much better dinosaur jr were than the pixies and the interviewer said “yeah I always thought of them as a poor mans throwing muses” lou laughed and said “not even that good, the muses were scary” and carried on about how what they were doin was so much better.

having never seen either of them, no. But J mascis and the fog at the wedgewood rooms was one of the greatest things i've ever seen where as frank black and the catholics - dull as

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

That's 'cos it was Frank Black & The Catholics, and not the Pixies - who are the best band I've ever seen live. Ever.

Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

dinosaur were always one of those bands i liked, but not as much as I wanted to. green mind was a class album, mind.

Tempted to buy this as you only need to sell 3 singles and a badge to get in the charts these days. I'd LOVE to see them on TOTP.

Speaking of which, did anyone ever see Sebadoh on TOTP a few years back? Genius.

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

What, when Flame got in the charts somehow? Yeah, it was fantastic. Lou (resplendent in a lilac jumper) deciding to scream his way through the final minute or so and scaring all the pop kids.

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

Yeah, that's the one. 'Crashing in at no. 39... Sebadoh'!

Wut?

Re: Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

Who? Dinosaur?

Lies, all lies. Living all over me, Bug, Green Mind and Where you been are all acer than the American Council on Exercise.

Pixies a poor man's throwing muses? what? Are you mad? Nowt against the Muses and don't want to get into their relative merits, but I don't see the comparison. They were coming from very different places (well, maybe not geographically).

Nah, I was just quoting Mr Gay4 quoting Lou Barlow. Pixies are one of my all time faves.

Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Well it's true...

oh yeah, whoops. well he may written the sublime 'gimme indie rock' but when it comes to comparing his fellow Bostonian bands- Lou Barlow doesn't know shit.

Well when I saw the Pixes at Brixton last year my overwhelming emotion was disappointment at these 4 cardboard cut outs that could have been miming to Pixies songs for all I could tell, followed by pain in my ribs (4,000 people pushing forwards against an immovable metal object with me the only thing in between). When I saw Dino Jr years ago in Cambridge the overwhelming emotion was pain, in my ears. Followed by not being able to make out what they were playing.

The Pixies were my favourite band for, like 7 or 8 years of my life, but meh. I'm hoping J et all make more of an effort. But really I'm just waiting for the Breeders to play again, even if they will play cannonball, which makes me want to strangle people nowadays.

God I'm such a curmudgeonly old git, innit.

Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Wel

So how much will my original 7" of Freak Scene be worth now?

Freak Scene re-release? Just can't believe us? Wel

Looking forward to dinosaur Jr at The Forum.
