'Blamethrower' comes as a download-only single some four months prior to Reuben's new album titled 'Very Fast, Very Dangerous'. While it's both fast and dangerous, whether or not it's actually interesting remains questionable.
Vicious from the outset, this feels looser and more careless musically and lyrically than the majority of the awesome debut 'Racecar Is Racecar Backwards'. The whole spoken stream-of-conciousness rant that kicks off mid-song feels particularly out of place and over-done.
Despite the promising start, 'Blamethrower' feels more throwaway than promising. Luckily, two more singles proper are due before the release of album - pun titles aside, here's hoping for something a little meatier.

I like the fact that it doesn't really sound like anything off Racecar, shouldn't they be applauded for not treading the same steps?
I like the groovey feel of the guitar and the stream of conciousness section works fine and dandy for me.
However, I saw them live last week and can say out of all the new songs they played, this was the weakest. We could be on for a truly special second album here.

I'm really looking forward to Very Fast Very Dangerous, I've heard some other songs from the new album live (Some Mothers Do Have Em, It's All About Control, Alpha Signal Three, Everytime a Teenager Listens to Drum & Bass a Rockstar Dies) and they're all fantastic, Reuben-like yet not similar to the material from the first album, they've got the perfect inbetween.
And after all of this Reuben are still criminally under-rated. Go for it, get it now.
Re: Reuben - Blamethrower
its a lot better than all the crap you see touted as the next big thing and these guys are really working for everything that comes their way.
go get it !
