Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

hahahahaahahahahahaahahahahahahaha!
*snerk*
oh, my organs.......

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

oh, sorry were you being serious?

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

'Is Nu Metal dead yet?

I FUCKING HOPE SO.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Snerk: that sound you make when you laugh so much you lose your breath and end up doing a slight pig imitation. Not that I've heard it being called a snerk before, that in itself made me do a snerk of my own.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

you people are closed minded fools

now go listern to shite like mars volta, or even more contempary, Franz Ferdinand

man they suck

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

"I can't believe you disagree with my opinions! Aaargh! I wouldn't post them on a message board if i had any idea you'd dispute them! How dare you! I'm both angry and offended! Grrr!"
*runs off to bedroom to cry and write in journal*

That really is the essence of nu metal

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

the only good thing to come out of nu metal was alien ant farm. that band is actually really good. the michael jackson cover is shite compared to other songs.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Are Deftones considered by you kids to be nu metal?

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Alien Ant Farm?
NO ONE used to be able to stand Dryden Mitchell and his backstage hissy fits.
You like Johnny Bravo anyway so I'll let you off, that used to crack me up.
Best was when he got kicked in by that doll.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

nu metal was never alive.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Nu Metal was just one big competition to see who could produce the most angst ridden lyrics, who could cut themselves the deepest and who hated their mother the most.
Wait a moment.....I could have made a killing!!!
Damn!

Now it's turned out that everyone hates Limp Bizkit even more than they ever did, KoRn I don't even want to go into what they've become, Amen look even more stupid and everyone's leaving the band, Slipknot now regret being so cliche, Ill Nino sound like a completely different band compared to "Revolution", Alien Ant Farm gave up, Linkin Park are still tooo cheesy with their commercially acceptable brand of kiddie metal, Papa Roach lost loads of weight, AFI's music still doesn't live upto their image and such and such.
I still have a soft spot for Deftones..."My Own Summer (Shove It)"
Gotta love that song.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Neither AFI, Slipknot nor Amen were ever nu-metal.

If you must categorise them, AFI are goth-mallpunk, Slipknot are kind of NWOAHM and Amen are nu-hardcore with a bit of metal in there. If you listen to Biohazard and Glassjaw, they're not a million miles from either, and both are resolutely un-metal bands (well, Biohazard are kind of metal, I suppose). Amen are a bloody frustrating band though. They seem so desperate to really kick mud in people's faces (lyrically, at least) but never really have. It's like some Burroughs cut-up of Castro speeches.

Nu-metal went down the toilet as soon as Spineshank and Disturbed and their ilk appeared, which was a very long time ago now. So nu-metal as even a slightly reputable genre has been dead a good five years, at least.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

I totally agree with what you said about Amen - I used to like them, now they just irritate me.
Don't like AFI - Chasey Chaos and Davey Havoc, are they like brothers or something or have they just ripped off each others names?

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

its all about the music, man...no one cares about backstage its what's ON stage that counts.
[/stupidity]

oh yeah i've seen that johnny bravo. my favourite is when he ends up on a desert island with an elephant in a bikini.
i wish i could marry mr. bravo. mmmm...muscles.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

The funniest was when his mum used to say, "Johnny...you've forgotten your pants" or something.

Well to conclude on my part at least, Nu-Metal is pretty much dead and gone like Flower Power or Britpop.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Apparently Deftones are nu-metal. Except they're good. Nu-metal and quality are mutually exclusive so I'm confused.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Everyone thinks of them as a decent band, but truth be told, they've only released one decent album, and it was a long time ago now. S/T was shockingly bad.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

emo is more of a man (boy?!) than nu-metal could ever be.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Emo is pussy rock, and nu-metal is idiot rock.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Oi vey. Funny thing happened on my way to EATB last night. I put in Less than Jake. My buddy started to skip through the tracks and finally popped it out and then threw it out the window. "You didn't want that, did ya?"

I hope you guys have good friends like that. :-)

PS Some of yous are gonna like this stuff. That's well and good... for you. But for the record if the singer has dreadlocks, turntables are being used as a musical instrument, or if there are horrific tombones... chances are I'm not gonna take to it.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Let's face it, as least nu-metal was fairly honest about how shite it was, unlike the laughable shit-farming competition that is emo. They all sing about the same topics all the time, always about how their girlfriend's died/split up with them/won't suck their 2 inch cocks anymore e.t.c. and there's no originality or breadth in the music.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Talk about a generalisation. Most bands write about some kind of relationship, most of the emoish bands that i like have loads of songs about things other than love.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

all emo bands were nu metal bands 3 or 4 years ago.

similarly all garage rock fans were stereophonics fans 3 or 4 years ago.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Yeah....whatever, proof of this Emo thing?

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

like death and how much they want to slaughter their girlfriends for breaking up with them? nice one. emo rules.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

No political songs etc. Any genre of music is going to have alot of songs about love etc

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

sir it seems you been living under a rock for the past couple of years. yes nu-metal is dead. kids don't wanna listen to that anymore. the target audience for nu-metal (13 to 16 year olds) listen to emo-core now, which is basically the same thing, but the bands are whining about girls now instead of their parents, it's like korn turning into teenager and finally finding girls. People your age are listening to hipper things, like the strokes and the libertines, what ever the cool magazines tell them to like. you are a lonely troop my friend, still living in 2001, get with the times!

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Emo! even fucking worse. an endless stream of guitar boy bands whining and bellowing about tedious everyday rubbish. I am yet to hear an "emo" band that is anything but dreadful. Icarus Line aren't emo are they? they have a few good songs. they seem better.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

THE ICARUS LINE ARE NOT EMO. I have no idea why they're ever referred to as emo either. If you haven't heard much by them think The Stooges, The Jesus Lizard, Spacemen Three etc etc. Definitely not emo.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

They've told me that they've been called emo before.
That was pretty fucking funny.
The Icarus Line own you.
And you.
Now do some work.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

And, on the subject, I'm not really sure the Deftones can be classified as nu metal, not on the evidence of the last two albums, anyway. They're nearer to, oh, I dunno... progressive hardcore? Elements of 80s synth pop/rock a la Depeche Mode and harder, Will Haven-style parts.
Although I, too, have a large soft spot for much of Around The Fur.
Sorry...

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

"Nu-metal" (and who came up with THAT one anyway?) was at least marginally similar (bar the odd ridiculous categorisation), but the whole "emo" craze has gone too far. Now EVERY band that writes a song about love is considered "emo". This sick trend must be stopped, immediately.

Most of these supposedly "emo" bands sound like a diluted version of early Deftones anyway...

On a side note, Deftones are brilliant. More Deftones discussion, please.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Brand New are good.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Depends what you mean by nu metal.

Deftones are still around (but they've progressed)
Korn are still around (but they've progressed)
Slipknot are still around (but they've progressed)

The rest were all peripheral or impersonators anyway.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

wow i never know i could cause such fuss
maybe if i killed myself

*at this point liam slits his wrists and dies*

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

To me there was only ever 3 or 4 Nu-Metal bands, the rest were just lumped in with the scene becuase they were around at that time (i.e Drowning Pool, lostprophets, Deftones, even Incubus), the real Nu-Metal bands are Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot and KoRn....

so to answer your question, Nu-Metal is half dead...

Linkin Park are well dead
Limp Bizkit are almost there
Slipknot have just recorded their best album
and KoRn, well its KoRn...they'll be around forever, producing albums every year that all sound exactly the same...yet i'll still buy them...:S

oh.....and Alien Ant Farm rock!

:p

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

oh yes.
alien ant farm ruuuuule.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

"the real Nu-Metal bands are Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot and KoRn...."

But the term was being bandied around long before Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Slipknot appeared on the scene. Korn and Deftones were on their second albums by the time Bizkit released their first and Linkin Park didn't turn up 'til three years after that - the same time as bands like Disturbed, Papa Roach, Alien Ant Farm, etc.

Nu metal is the early Deftones/Korn sound - bass-heavy metal with hip hop influences in the rhythm section rather than the vocals. The heavy hip hop influence came in 1997 - the year Fred Durst appeared on the scene and Korn recorded "Follow The Leader".

So Bizkit are very much the Nirvana of nu metal: a bunch of Johnny-come-latelys who had some commercial success and then became so ubiquitous they killed the scene stone dead. But just as Sonic Youth and Pearl Jam can still put out albums (of varying quality, it must be said), so Deftones and Korn are still very active, within the limits of a decaying genre.

N.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Sonic Youth were never grunge tho.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Alien Ant Farm may 'rock', but they're also the most flyblown, stinking piece of tired, uninspired, rotten aural faeces that has ever been scraped off the shoe of my ear.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

They were on your shoe?
You have shoes on your ears?
WHAT KIND OF FREAK ARE YOU?

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

yeah i mean, how do you manage to walk on your ears? some kind of special skill?

although i think the "shoe" in question was a metaphorical one. yes?

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

kornb are fucing gash

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

'Twas indeed a metaphorical shoe. Although an ear probably could be removed, fitted with a sole, and used as a shoe for a children's doll. The ankle would snugly occupy the ear canal.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

would you have to chop the foot off the doll first, though? then instead of a foot they would have an ear attached to their ankle (an eafoot?) which is kind of strange but also quite cool.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

No. The doll's foot could stay. There's no need to be inhumain.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Nu-metal was, like, never alive because all the vocalists and band members had been dead sice birth because of their horrible parents, a narcisistic world that doesn't care about the problems we face, the evil of a capitalist society that spends money on worthless things (unlike my new wallet chain and nose stud)... death is Us, we are death therefore we were never truly alive in the first place. Man.

Europop anyone?

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

like, like, like, FUCK OFF!!!!

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Also with people talking about emo as well, can we all distinguish between emo and post-hardcore please, because there is a difference.

Oh my god I just realised I sound like the most boorish muso ever in that sentence above. Anyway basically emo is shit and post-hardcore is normally good. A bit of a generalisation, but what the hell.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

talking about the emorockingness, my chemical romance? hot or not? The fucking kerrang hype machines going again

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

my chemical romance are fucking awesome...

they are not =emo= by a long way, they are doing something that no one else is doing, and they can pull it off, they ain't afraid to fuck around with shit...just don't judge them by their singles, you gotta listen to their albums, especially the new ones.

genius.

like the bronx.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

my chemical romance are so emo that they've gone past it and back to emo again.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

My chemical romance are alright, but the only amazing thing about them is all the fucking hype, its just another emo band... sounds like all the others with a few good chooons.

The bronx rawk my socks though

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

It's because they wear make-up. That makes them different.

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

The Bronx = Good - 'Heart Attack American' is one of the most powerful opening songs I've heard in ages.

My Chemical Romance = Bad - Come on, the three-word name, the studded belts, the make up, the cliched look, artwork and lyrics, the fact they sound like every other mainstream rock band at the moment (Blink 182 meshed with Iron Maiden's guitars). Work it out. I hope this fad dies soon...

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

The bait taken, the float under the water... the expert fisherman wound in his catch :D

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

Heh heh. :-9

Re: Is Nu Metal Dead Yet?

i never liked nu metal even when i was 14, but some of those old nu metal bands are getting better, but then again some are getting worse...
