Calling all unsigned bands...that's a Fopping good deal.
Posted: 26 Apr '05, 12:56
Independent Music retailer FOPP is giving unsigned bands in the North of England, Northern Ireland and Scotland an amazing opportunity in association with the PRS Foundation (PRSF) and Clear Sound & Vision to:
· Record at a professional studio for free (3 track EP)
· Have their recording, edited, mixed, mastered and pressed.
· Help design artwork for their finished CD.
· Have their music sold at Fopp Stores nationwide as well as been given the opportunity to play exclusive in stores there, following in the footsteps of Franz Ferdinand, Tenacious D and The Rapture.
There will be six winners chosen by a panel of 'Music Industry Gurus' including Dougie Bruce from Universal Publishing, who works with The Kaiser Chiefs and Mylo.
Entries can come from any genre; you can be in a band or a solo artist. If you’re over 18 and write your own original material (no covers!) then you’re eligible. More information, application forms and terms & conditions are available from Fopp’s website HERE and the PRSF website HERE. The closing deadline for applications is the 21st of May 2005.

Calling all unsigned bands...that's a Fopping good deal.
I read this and than reread it, surely the competition should be open to unsigned bands though out the whole of the UK.
It's unfair on the bands who live outside of those regions, in plaves like Wales, the West country, the midlands and the south of England. Unless there planning on running a similar competition in the near future for those area's.-
Re: Calling all unsigned bands...that's a Fopping good deal.
they've already done it for the south

Perhaps there has already been one for the North West?
It's pretty studpid that they're are including Northern Ireland considering there isn't a Fopp store in the whole country.
Well............ not stupid, but they should open a Fopp shop in NI. -

I think the Midlands is included in this.
As for the South, you've got London ffs, where all the A&R men, industry and medi types hang out, therefore giving you a massive head start in the first place!-

Seems quite stupid that you have to be over 18, doesn't it?
Is there any reason for that?
Or is it just a way of filtering off as many Green Day rip offs as possible?-
Re: Calling all unsigned bands...that's a Fopping good
It might be a legal thing. I'm pretty sure that under 18s that sign record deals have to have their parents countersign them..

which obviously means that the competition is going to be overrun with dire Libertines wannabe's?
I've lost count the number of times i've seen unsigned bands who have 're-written' Libertines songs.
