Is anyone else here sikc of shit indie. or just indie in general. or irritating fucks who go to shit indie clubs and dance badly badly badly to fucking rage against the fucking middleclassparents sorry machine. urgh. fuck off and die
yeah i agree let it go let it ALLLLLLL go!!! but i have to agree its shit! and is there acctually indie clubs? i also agree with the dude who said that anyone who dances to rock dances shit!!! well done for pointing this very good fact to me!!!
my band had a gig last night and the two bands that played with us were fucking atrocious, really obvious mid-90s heroic britpop. Made me want to puke. I fucking hate shit indie, and i REALLY hate indie clubs.
Why do people be in shit bands? WHY!? Why clutter up the live scene with crappy chilli/oasis funk blandness instead of trying to be GOOD?? I don't think I've been to a single gig in London years without having one of these loathsome cretinous bands on the bill, spoiling it for everyone else.
I have to say I absolutely love watching shit indie bands.
The best is when they KNOW, however subconciously how shit they are.
They look at each other and nod to the beat, and try to smile in a rock star manner, as though to say to each other- we.are.amazing.
But they know.
You pretentious bastards! How do you think a musician becomes a rock star? He starts off in a little shitty garage band when he's thirteen. Then he plays in a less shitty band on the pub circuit. Then he plays in a crummy band that's lucky to have his EP panned on DiS. Then, if he's lucky, his next band puts out a decent little disc the indie kids, like you!, love. And before you know it he's hob-knobbing with Noel and Liam and making speeches at the UN.
I saw the opening band of a show the other night, and the chick bass/keyboard player gave one of those knowing little nods out in the audience. I remember thinking how shit-thrilled she probably was and how she was probably sharing her glory with her mom and sister. I thought it was pretty cool.
i hate shit indie but i dont catorgarise music into the four catorgaries anymore
rock rnb indie and pop
its all about electro clash alternative dance woo woo oh and sleaze rock.
Every band, before every rehearsal and every gig and every interview and photoshoot and communal wank should ASK THEMSELVES, AUDIBLY, ARE WE REALLY FUCKING NECESSARY? CAN WE JUSTIFY OUR EXISTENCE? ARE WE MERELY PEDDLING EVER SO FAINTLY EMBARRASSING THURMAN PASICHES IN A DUBIOUS EFFORT TO INCREASE OUR PITIFUL CHANCES OF CASUAL SEX? IS THERE A POINT TO US?
And any band who cannot answer YES! YES! NO! YES! should, obviously, bite the bullet, leaving Us The Listener Victims with an unadulterated avalanche of 17% brilliance and 83% self delusion.
I'm in a Joy Division tribute band. The tribute to Joy Division is that the band neither exists nor cluelessly reduces their music to catshit.
Depends what you consider to be an indie club these days really. They really don't exist in the same essence as they used to. Lots of them have been turned into 'Alternative' nights, which basically means a mainstream Nu-Metal/Rock night with a bit of hip hop and maybe Razorlight and the Libertines thrown to appease the dwindling indie masses. There are some quality ones in Manchester and Liverpool , and I'm not talking the 42nd Streets and 52 Aves here, Smile at the Star and Garter is always full of interesting music from throughout the decades.
I wasn't talking about live music, upcoming bands etc. I was talking about indie clubs that play stuff (bad hyped up retro rock, really bad 90s chart indie and alternative rock etc) which is tedious and impossible to dance (well) to. And the irritating perpetual-teenage-mosher student cliches who attend such clubs. It makes me want to scream and club people over the head with a clue stick and a taste in dance music. Yes I am being a snob and this is a bit of a pointless rant but hey
Hey! I completely agree with what you are saying...I've just joined DiS and in the speil you have to spin I wrote this...thought it was appropriate:
"The Education are the band I am managing... they amaze and enthral me so I've decided to dedicate my days to getting their message (and in turn my own) out there to the rest of you motherfuckers! Their music is truely inspiring. In a world where everyone seems to have become stuck in a loop, repeating decades in music, fashion and views they have come to smash up our metaphorical gramophone of society and put it all back together again. Drawing influences from the best of punk, dance, drum & bass, industrail, rock and fucking everything else, in a way that just makes you wanna dance, scream and quiver in it's beauty."
Go check out their free MP3 at www.theeducation.co.uk, they're the only band that are keeping my faith intact...
I wasn't spaming...I was adding my opinion in reply to the original post. Yeah it might seem like "spam" but its actually what I truely believe...so there. boo to you.
Well sorry my spelling isn't up to your high standards...I'm dyslexic so I kinda can't help it... As with the shit indie thing I was replying to the original post where someone was saying how bored they were with the music scene at the moment. I wasn't spamming, I just love the music and thought you guys might too...it was merely a suggestion! Cheers..
Fraid I agree with OceanRain to an extent, you have to have some shite to get good stuff. When I saw bands everyweek, they were obviously variable, but If I couldn't find enjoyment in the whole band I could sometimes find it in some componant of the band. If you see/hear a great guitarist/drummer/bassist/vocalist with a particular style in a crap band then they might want to join some band you know that are defficient in that department.
How do we expect to apply quality control to bands that play, that implies quality censorship, what would that have done with punk/grunge/garage....your talking about control here, you want to be able to control the type of night out that you have....well I think....rock n roll SHOULD be unpredictable.
Actually I guess you are just offering a personal drunken comment, not a true critical appraisal, so thats fair enough
Um.. well yeah I was pretty pissed, I wasn't talking about live music though - as someone said everyone has to start somewhere - more referring to shit indie 'clubs' which I seem to end up dragged along to by mates who're more excited by such things. Trying to enjoy yourself dancing to really bad hyped up retro rock music, tedious mosher crap and I-was-sick-of-it-the-first-time-round britpop nostalgia through a crappy sound system that makes every over-compressed guitar single sound the same. I know I know, should just vote with my feet and not attend such things, but when the only alternative is student cheese...
So yeah. I guess what I'm saying is: for dancing there is good dance music which is actually enjoyable to dance to. Rock just isn't good for dancing to, 90% of the time.
Matt I understand your (earlier) point, but much of 'Electroclash' as a genre represents the absolute armpit of electro. It mings. I doubt that the casual purchaser of some bastarding Ministry compilation is going to eventually be transformed into an avid Drexciya enthusiast.
Well fair enough, at least some of it's vaguely danceable. If you can stand the sound of bored german models droning on about their coke habits, that is. Urgh.
I know some people who've got into more interesting electronic stuff through that though, hence the comment
After the Libs I went to a nightclub that was split into two distinct sections. The larger dance floor was playing the hip-hop electronica full of guys doing the white-man-overbite dance step. In the shoegazer room they played cool hard rock with a bunch of guys in leather jackets and goth chicks getting stoned. Can you guess which room I hung in? Yeah, I requested they play Friction... was fun!
Mahabharat of course not gary glitter sleaze rock gravy trian sleaze rock have you heard of them?wow they rule.Indie is becoming to fucking mainstream.its nothing like it used to be.all underground and so on.God im beginning to despise the music industry.
is there no hope?

Electroclash - seemingly a bit of a hipster fad, and a slightly dated one at that, but a good way into more diverse dance music for sure...
