OutKast's André 3000 (pictured) has angered anti-gun campaigners in the US by claiming he'd like to buy his nine-year-old son a weapon.
The rapper/actor is quoted as saying: "I would want my son to carry a gun when he gets older. It's just something you have got to have if you want to be safe."
André's son, Steven, was unavailable for comment. Anti-gun campaigners have, quite obviously, reacted angrily to such a statement.
A spokeswoman for the group Mothers Against Guns commented:
"André 3000 is idolised by large numbers of young children throughout the world. He is glorifying gun culture which has taken over the world and taken our children away from us. To say he is going to encourage his son to carry one around when he is older is despicable."
Told.
Fucking momo.
What a fucking stupid thing to say
Andre, you are a FOOL.
Oh man
I thought he had more brains than that.
It's really depressing though that in America, it's "Mothers against..." for everything. Some comedian once took the mick out of that saying something like "Speaking as an American, I think we should look seriously at gun control. But speaking as a Mother, HELP! ALIENS ARE COMING FOR OUR KIDS! ARM YOURSELVES NOW!" or something like that.
bill bailey
thats who it was
"speaking as a mother the taliban are all eight foot tall with a laser between their eyes" or something to that effect
Ah yes!
Well remembered, that man. I realised I had the context right but the words completely wrong...
!
What a moron.
It was Rosie O'Donnell who said what she said and Bill Bailey comedied it. Yes.
well....
"rather be caught with it than caught without one"
he's like
teetotal and buddhist isnt he? I hope this is a misquote
GUNS
liek...men WELL shoot people, YOU FAGGOTS.
!
i'm suprised he hasn't been shot yet, all the rappers must think he's some kind of promiscuous homosexual dude. As for his son, oh well.
I...
...thought the headline said 'gum'.
I was like, how angry can you get about gum? :|
Woe is me :(
Notice
the stupid and sensationalist way this is being reported: "he'd like to buy his nine-year-old son a weapon". That's bollocks. He's clearly saying he'd like his son to have a gun "when he gets older" - it's right there! He's not advocationg nine year old children having guns for pete's sake.
And how exactly is he "glorifying gun culture"?. He's saying he thinks having a gun makes you safer. Of course, lots of people claim that's statistically incorrect. But it's still an entirely legitimate point of view. And probably a quite understandable one given the circumstances Andre grew up in.
I like him even more.
Dude is a smart one. The man can't be everywhere and if it's a dangerous place the police won't come in untill it is safe.
Everyone has to look after themselves. Alot don't and there are more who aren't looking out for themselves murdered than there are people who do look out for themselves.
If you wan't to die holding a phone talking to a 911 operator? That's your choice. André will be calling 911 for a cleanup crew.
